I was wondering if you guys could give me some pointers in taming down the CPU usage of TMO.

Is it possible to have TMO but with stock environment ?

The first thing I've done is disable the fan animations in the interiors.

I open the interiors in S3D and search for fanblades, I find a node called "notset" and delete that along with it's childnodes....seems to work ok.

Obviously I'd like to find a way to disable the environment FX, but keep the gameplay...so it's head scratching time :hmmm:
I don't want to break anything, so could do with some pointers from the modding l33t.

I have Stock 1.5 and TMO 2.5, this is the only mod in use.

thanks

Please guys I need some pointers, I realize the TMO environments are a combination of RE & EE5.
I'm tweaking the scene.dat and comparing it with the original, but I'm not sure If I can fully control the fx from here, but am I in the right area/file ?
Since trying TMO I can't go back to GFO, the difference in immersion is huge.
In TMO I've stopped using shortcut keys and external views and navigate with the mouse only, the mod just "draws you in to the sim". I actually enjoy evading and being pinged by destroyers now. :D

It would be helpful to know if removing the Environment is even possible.

Any advice would be appreciated.

What are your specs? I play on an old AMD3800, 2mgs of ram and a 9500gt video card, use TMO and have tweaked enviroment to my liking, but even that it has more pull. I still get decent frames of around 30FPS under most intense scenes and all settings maxed out.

I do know with Real Env I take a FPS hit much worse compared to Env.5 that TMO uses. My guess much of the FPS hit comes from the added shaders, etc, more than adjustments you make in scene dat.

You also have to remember mods like TMO the AI and sensors are tweaked to work with the enviroment settings. You could pull the stock shaders, textures and all needed env. files and create a mod to run over TMO, but would take a lil work and the results may screw up the AI.

I'm more interested in your specs, video driver and settings.

Hi Armistead, thx for replying, I'm currently running it on my old backup system.......

D865 Perl, P4 3.2, 2gig ram, ATI x850, no AA, all sea effects off.

Yup , after looking at the scene.dat, I went to the shader folder and started to replace them with the stock ones, but ended up with a jet black sea. I noticed there are a whole lot more shaders in the folder with TMO.
I would make a MOD if only I knew how, it's pretty complicated/undocumented stuff, my main concern was affecting the sensors and AI, and I realized pretty early that everything seems to be dependent on something else.

The only thing i managed to successfully do is kill the fan animations, I really want to play this game and not mod it, I've just spent 2 years modding GP4 and I can't even look at the game anymore, I don't want the same to happen to this, the immersion factor is superb.

I suppose the best thing for me to find is what I CAN tweak without affecting the AI/sensors in ANY way.
