I'm trying to learn how to do manual targeting, starting with zero-gyro attacks using gutted's Solution Solver tool to help.
Problem is, I can't seem to set the TDC properly for such an attack.
I just booted up my copy of SH4 and it seemed to work over there:
1. Drag the range as far out as it would go, then click send
2. Set the AOB to the AOB of the ship when it's right in front of the sub, then click send. I use the Solution Solver's periscope view to get this
3. Set the speed of the target, then click send. I use map contacts to compute for the speed
4. When the target passes the shoot bearing as dictated by the tool, shoot
With SH5 I can't seem to figure it out. I'm using TDW's UI so I can get the TDC dials, but even then it's really confusing. What's the proper procedure? I think it should be:
1. Turn on the TDC by talking to the XO.
2. Click the TDC button to green so I can send TDC updates manually
3. Set the target's speed, then click send
4. Set the target's AOB to what it would be when it's right in front of the sub, then click send
5. ???
At this point I get confused because there's no "send" on the range dial. Actually, even on the AOB dial I don't know if I'm doing it right, because the dial is so small and it's not like the SH4 dial showing the Port-Starboard side of the ship.
If I just turn the TDC off, it doesn't work either, because firing the torpedo against the shoot bearing causes the torp to take a gyro angle instead of going right down 0 degrees.
This is the closest I've ever been to really "getting" manual targeting and I don't want to let go yet, I just feel like I'm missing something with the interface.
EDIT: I'm so sorry, it appears I posted this in the mod forum instead of the general SH5 forum. Could a mod move it, please?
