Bought the game today on steam, sadly i can't get it to work.
First start up, when pressing play i got the error message "Fatal error" and CTD.
Second round i tryed to run compability mode XP, feels like i came further, but got a new CTD with the error message "Bitmap Failed to Load (error 17)"... anyone knows how to fix this?
I'm running Windows vista 64.
Happy holidays btw

Hello Daffman.
Are your GPU & DirectX drivers up to date? Also change your desktop resolution to 800x600.
The splash\load screen is has a resolution of 640x480 which can be a problem for some new monitor and laptops. :salute:

Oh right when you say you've reinstalled, have you delete everything to do with the game and then re-download it? :salute: Also have you un-install Steam and re-download that too.

First I unistalled it from the steam meny, but it seems it did'nt go away so i took it away manuelly, then reinstalled it, twice.
Haven't reinstalled steam, I guess I could try that aswell(damn i want to play it :D), makes it all the games to get unistalled or does only the client get unistalled...oh well I guess i will find out.

If you un-install Steam you lose every game you have got install, but you can backup your other games with Steam's Backup feature. This will save you from having to re-download them, then you can un-install the Steam Client and start again. :salute:

Sorry to hear you've do all that crap and it still isn't working, :damn::damn::damn: may I ask what UAC setting you have got on your Vista, it shouldn't make any different with the Steam version of the game but it might that.
Is there an Fleetcommand.ini file in the Fleet Command folder?
Have you tried the re-package Jane's Fleet Command demo that I did? :salute:

That's Cool because the UAC setting can cause a lot of problems with FC.
Delete that FC.ini file and try and load the game.
You can get the re-package demo from my forum.

Just some other things for you, is your Steam Client install in the default directory? i.e.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\
Are you trying to load the game via the Steamrun.exe or Fleet Command.exe, because these two have never work for some reason and I bought the Steam version of FC when it was release back in 2006 and them two .exe files just cause error when click on.
Steamrun.exe and Fleetcommand.exe
Failed to find Steam and loads IE to steampowered.com web site.
This has happen to me on XP Home\Prof, Vista 32&64bit, Window 7 32&64Bit.
If you run load the game from the shortcut on the desktop or from the Windows Start menu or from within the Steam Client the game should work.
Also just a note for you or anyone else. I bought this game again a week or so ago when it was on a special price, and that work in the same way too.
If it doesn't work for you I would say you need to inform Steam, I'm sorry to say. :salute:

That might be something you could ask Steam to fix with Fleet Command.
Also there are two other places where you can get Fleet Command from has a buy & download.
http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-FLEETC/fleet-command
and
http://www.strategyfirst.com/games/2542-complete-naval-combat-pack.html
Might be something to think about, if Steam is no help to you with this issue. :salute:

Have you tried setting Compatibility Mode to "Win 98/Win Me" with "Disable Visual Themes", "Disable Desktop Composition" Disable Display Scaling" and "Run as Administrator" checked? I saw that you tried compatibility with "Win XP", but that doesn't work with Vista or 7 because Vista and 7 are built around Windows NT. I have Fleet Command through Steam and I have no trouble with it working on my Win 7 64 bit system after making these tweeks.

Hey BlackDesertStudios.
Welcome to the subsim forum, I haven't played Sub Commander for sometime on Window 7, but it should work fine on W7 without having to do anything has long as the Steam client is install in the default directory. :salute:

Just fixed this problem myself, in steam right click fleet command in your library, click properties, set launch options, type -windowed.
Now right click your desktop, click screen resolution, advanced, then show all modes, and pick your resolution (or 1600x1200 which is the max the game plays at) and 16 bit color (IMPORTANT!). now run the game, and it should work.
Seems like the initial splash screen causes the error. When you try to put the application into compatibility mode it causes problems with steam.
Hope that helps.
