View Full Version : Deadlier Aircraft Possible?

Guten Abend,

I wonder if there's any way to make enemy aircraft drop depth charges instead of bombs? I have to be deliberately careless (i.e., ignore the radar detector) to get damaged by aerial bombs, but if they dropped DC's set for, say, 60 metres, that would be more realistic. Or has this been addressed, and I somehow missed it?

Danke,

What mods are you using?

I'm suprised you've been so lucky from ariel attack thus far.

The bombs act like depth charges and will do you harm or even destroy you if your at 20 metres depth.

I use GWX3 w/ h.sie's modded .exe. Yes, I see the bombs explode just below the surface and can be effective at shallow depths. But by then my boat's gone deeper, even after ignoring radar warnings and diving on the lookouts' cue (even in the slow-diving Type IX). The blasts might shake the meat and bananas, but not much more.

In the data/Air folder the bombers' cfg files clearly show depth charges among the loadouts -- though I've only ever seen bombs in the external views. Is something preventing these DCs from being implemented? And can the detonation depth be adjusted?

Scroll down to the Mk VII and Mk VIII Airborne Depth Charges. Note that they had a single depth setting, pre-set before the plane ever took off - 25 feet (8 metres). An aircraft can't search for a submerged submarine, nor tell how deep it may be. Their only hope is to catch it right after it dives, or while cruising at periscope depth.

Danke, Sailor Steve,

I learn something new every day. It appears air attacks are more dangerous when visibility is limited, i.e., when the planes can get closer before being spotted. I just had a close call; luckily I turned the right way and the bomber's aim was off. Whew!
