Greetings and:salute: to all! I remember playing SH a long time ago. I think when I was operating win 98. So I got searching the other day for subsims and came across this website. (Which is awesome btw) I've ordered the combo SH 2 & 3 from here for win XP, and Fast Attack which is still DOS ugh.
So, I've been reading through some of the posts in the forums and don't find much about sh II. Which is the game I intend on starting (again) with.
I guess I should ask you seasoned sims a few core questions. like...
1) Will these progs run without probs on win vista? Perhaps select compatability mode for win xp?
2) Should I play without mods for awhile?
3) Fast Attack.. how do I set that up?
4) I know that knowing what the keys do is most important in playing the games. Will I have complete keyboard shortcuts listed somewhere in my install documentation? Or can I find that stuff here someplace?
5) Which mods are best for each of the games?
I got an email saying my games have shipped. I can't wait to start a new carreer. Since I'm a trucker though, they probably wont arrive before I ship out again.. dang it. Anyway thanks in advance to you guys.:arrgh!:
I would say play a carrer without mods, then install GWX gold 3.0, and after that SH3 Commander.
I use windows 7 so idk, but I dont think so.
PS
Woulda been easier to get it on steam, no delivery.
I run SH3 on Vista just fine. Do not install it in the default Program Files folder. Make one labeled Ubisoft, or whatever you wish outside of the Program Files folder, and install it there. The UAC in Vista, and Windows 7, monitors the Programs Files folder and makes modding SH3 a nightmare.
:salute:

Thanks for your suggestions. I think probably I'll do just that.
As for your PS 1) I don't know steam. 2) My purchase thru this website gave them a little bit of cash. I might not be able to send any $ atm, but I did what I could that way. And again, thank you for the suggestions. :DL

Ahoy HW3!! Thank you for the reply and awsome tip. I've for sometime been in the habit of Installing stuff in my own directories!:D Rebel that I am, I learned to keep things where I know they are, not where windoze wants them. So SH3 will reside in my Games folder with a sub folder all it's own. Or perhaps Games/subsims/ ...
Right on Target Cap'n!!:arrgh!::yeah:

Welcome Hans...you'll get all the help and advice you need on this excellent forum, you can be sure of that :sunny:
Welcome!
This part of the forum is really focused on SH3.
For SH2 matters, and Fast Attack, I think you'll find more information here, the old (classic) subsim games section:

Welcome aboard mate, you couldn't find a better, more helpful bunch of cohorts anywhere on the net mate :03: Have to say well done for ordering your copy from subsim :yeah:
Regarding the UAC thing with Vista, not sure if you know, but you can always turn it off. I'm running on Win7 64 now, but succesfully ran SH3 on Vista64 bit for quite some time.
Hope your package arrives before you have to ship out mate.
Best regards.

hmmm:06: They need a scratchin yer head emoticon like .. huh wha he say? You guys and yor abreviations! lol.. don't worry I'll learn them! Like this one. UAC = User Account Control ? Is that so? No I did not know that. Sounds handy. Does it also get rid of the locks on certain folders so you can access ANY folder on your own damn computer?? That would be sweet! :yeah:
Thanks for the Welcome too Mr Fubar1Niner

Unfortunately some folders will be locked, unless you can succesfully change permissions. On the plus side disabling UAC will get rid of that damn "Are you sure you want to blah blah" nag. If you need the nowhow just hoot.
Best regards.

Grab that file, it'll make life much easier than hacking the registry manually. It's a freebie, hope that helps shipmate. Best of luck.

Fubar2NinerWhy do you think M$ came up with UAC? To prevent unknown or unverifiable applications or malware from taking over your operating system. And now you install a program to do it for you, allowing it to gain administrative permissions or 'carte blanche', even if the solution is already available built in. (check my previous post)

Windows knows best. Besides I'm never really sure, and just because I clicked the button to initiate the action should in no wise by interpreted as logical intent. Best to double check everything. That way I get the opportunity to second guess myself and indulge my split personality. :D :O:
