Hi Kaleuns.
First up,
@Hitman, JC, Seth, not sure if I should post this here or in mods section so please move this if necessary, thanks.
Just recently I keep getting a CTD with an error pointing to SH3collision.act
Anybody have any ideas what may be causing this? I don't think it's a mod conflict as I've been using my current mod list for quite some time. Sys specs as follows:
Win7 64 bit
Intel i7 920 @4GHz
12G corsair ram
2xSeagate Barracuda in raid0
1x Intel 80GB SSD
EVGA GTX580 Black Ops
Using the 4GB patch.
Any help much appreciated. :salute:
Best regards.

Will do Jim thanks for the advice mate. BTW don't worry about the lapse of memory, it happens to us all. If I had a penny for everytime I forgot something I'd have £37.63 1/2 pence ;)

LOL....problem is I've come across this at least once before and I simply can't remember.
IIRC the game engine uses the files for collision and physics calculations so you may have an 'iffy' model in your setup or one which has a conflict with another similar file.
Privateer/Jeff should sort you out.

Got your PM Mate.
I 'think' I remember BBW saying something about this error report.
That makes me think as Jim does.
A bad Unit or conflicting Units, or something in the Campaign layers.
:hmmm:
Can you post more details?
What Mods and what order.
When, where, etc.
System specs.
I know you posted that info somewhere before.
I'm just a bit to busy to search it out at the moment.

I see Dunkirk mentioned.
Hasn't there been a lot of reports of problems in this area?

I'll take a look at the campaign stuff and see if I can spot anything useful.
You can play single missions OK though I'm guessing?

I looked at the Campaign files, but to be honest?
I don't really know what to look for in this situation.
(Where's BBW when you NEED him? :haha:)
I could see a crash if a system was older or lacked resources.
But with the SHCollisions as an error on a system that should handle the load?
:hmmm:
Best I can think to do is start deleteing Units from the layers one by one to find the problem and solve it after so many reports of troubles in this area.
My first suspects are the Barricade Ships.
The reason is that I know if you torpedo one under some instances?
You CTD!!
Maybe the Axis Aircraft have bombed one and this causes the CTD?
I'll try to setup a single mission in the area at the proper time and see if I crash.
Then work from there.
Thank God it's Friday!!
I have a feeling it's going to be a LONG weekend!!

No apologies needed Jim.
After all the reports of problems in the Dunkirk area?
It's time to crush this nagging problem!
There is not that much traffic when you compare other areas so I still suspect the barricade units may be the problem.
Here is my reasoning:
They are classed as a Sub and have a zon file.
BUT! They have no sim file.
I think that the Engine is pukeing from a random hit on them from Axis Units.
It's doing the stuff for damages but can not apply it to the Unit because it has no sim.
:hmmm:
Fubar2Niner,
Go to your Submarines folder, then to the BARR folder and remove the zon file.
Just cut it and paste it somewhere safe for now.
Try starting your Game again and see what happens.

This is one of those things that you just do not catch until things are just right!
Not everyone suffers at Dunkirk.
It's always just a few posts here and there.
But over the last few years? It's enuff to raise eyebrows!
What in the name of Sam's Hill is going on I asked myself?
Of course I didn't answer because I was deeply involved with my friend KeyStone Light.

As you mentioned mate harbour traffic is seemingly lower than in wilms,st. naz. Not sure if this is of any consequence, but, there seems to be no evidence of air activity over dunkirk. No burning buildings, ships etc. :hmmm:

I set a single mission up near Dunkirk, May 27th, 9AM.
8KM out at 12 meters depth in a VIIB.
While watching what I suspected was a Drunken Crew on a small torpedo boat crash repeatedly into a SeaWall.
:hmmm:
I had a total hardlock of my system at 10AM Game time.
Forced to reboot I started the mission again.
It's now 11:48AM Game time and the Drunken Crew must be smoking Dope as there's alot of smoke comeing off the torpedo boat now!
:haha:
I'm running at 4X time and observing waiting for another crash.
Oh, and that is on a different system then this one.
So I can browse the web without corrupting the test runs.
:yep:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2:13PM another HardLock!
I'm letting that system set for awhile to see if it writes error messages this time.
Several things I did notice that I'll look into.
3 Ships grounded themselves for unknown reasons.
This was just after I saw a flight of Hurricanes on fire headed back home.
As I have the speaks up pretty loud, I also noticed a repeat sound that I went looking for.
It was a Hurricane that went down in the city.
It was burning and kept makeing repeated explosion sounds.
It was almost as if it tried a belly landing.
The pilot was inside so I doubt he survived.
:nope:
I was moveing back out to beyound the Harbor when the system locked.
It's been 5 minutes now so a reset is needed again.
:damn:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3rd run in progress.
There's several Axis AA and Shore defenses west of Dunkirk.
Those are the only things in the area that could down the Hurricanes.
And may cause the Ships to ground themselves?
I'm sitting West of Dunkirk to try to observe any actions in the western area.
1:48PM 3Ships grounding themselves again and 2 Hurricanes down behind the City doing the burn and looping explosions.
1 of the Ships in the Random Patrol group is now stuck on the anti-Sub net and is burning.
Must have some of the stuff the torpedo boat guys smoke!
:haha:
3:09PM and another system lockup!!
I looked at the zon file for the Hurricane and it may be the reason they do not vanish on the ground as they should.
If a bunch go down for any reason but don't vanish?
This could be the reason for the randomness of crashes in the Dunkirk area as nearly every hour on the hour Hurricanes patrol the area.
It would also explain the collisions error message.

I only have 2 gig of ram and I'm still running anti-virus and firewall.
So a total lock-up is not that strange.
I've swapped the Hurricanes for Mosquito's as the next test.
They have a much better damage model.
They should disappear once on the ground.

Still have not solved the crashing issue totally.
:damn:
Useing the Mosquito, I saw somewhat the same issue with Units on the ground.
No flames or explosions this time but the main sound node needs changed
as they still make aircraft noises when downed.
I'm going to start removeing the random Units that appear one by one until I can go through the entire Dunkirk event with no crash.
I'll then see if I can change things to allow adding them back without doing any major damage to the Historic events as GWX does them now.
The issues I have seen over and over?
The downed aircraft...............
This seems to be mid air collisions due to too radical of a course change.
Maybe adjusting waypoints and chances will solve this.
The Ships grounding themselves............
That is most likely due to the AI (Actually Ignorent) behavior of the Units.
Maybe re-defineing something about the Groups will help solve the issue.
The Drunken Torpedo Boat!!
That one is funny as all get out to watch!!
:haha:
I've seen it ram sea walls, do some weird back up go forward things, catch fire, and even totally vanish when I wasn't looking!!
Did it sink itself?
Or take off to Denmark to visit the Coffee Shops?
:hmmm:
Thoughts at this point.......................
Add the grounded air units problems to the ship units that like slamming the shore line?
We're seeing a constant demand on the collision system!
Not even adding in the sounds and particle emissions?
I'd suspect any system would want to puke under this load.
It appears to be unique to the Dunkirk Event.
But I wonder if the D-Day event would offer the same results?
(No one in thier right mind goes there so it may not be noticed as much?)
:hmmm:

The SH3 system was not ment to handle situations like this.
You are supossed to go out to Sea, sink shps, then go home.
No aircraft or ships get stuck in situations like that.
No problems.
Once you play in an area with traffic close to shore?
All bets are off if anything is not just right.
If aircraft are not vanishing when they go down and ships are getting stuck banging into the shoreline?
Something is WRONG in a major way that has been over looked.
Who did the original Dunkirk area and when, as it is now, in GWX 3?
:hmmm:
And with all due respect, why was this issue not caught by GWX testers?
I know them as the BEST.

I fully concur in this regard. Was running some tests yesterday on a very stable mod platform and was able to reproduce CTD's at will simply by idling in port at high TC.
Not something you would normally do, so it's not much of a concern other than to illustrate the limitations of the engine.
Good luck in getting the Dunkirk situation ironed out, (if it can be ironed out), and if not - well cheers for trying! :salute:

This is actually the most fun I've had with SH3 in quite awhile Mates!
I never did look closely at the Campaign stuff nor tested things like this.
I've spotted SO MANY things that could be fixed that I could keep myself busy for months!!
:D
Just the problems I see with Aircraft things is interesting and opens the whole Air folder and all Units in it to corrective adjustments that could solve many 'near land' issues.
For example..............
We know that some issues with sounds can cause problems.
If We start getting Aircraft crashed on the ground that do not destroy the part with the engine sound node attached?
How long before that causes a drain on any system leading to a CTD in other areas? (The Collision Error for example)
:hmmm:
And then there's the Ships that ground themselves or go 'Drunk and Stoned'
The Torpedo Boat near Dunkirk has Waypoints but for some reason it forgets it's waypoints for a random amount of time and rams all kinds of stuff.
Then once in awhile, it finds the waypoints again and returns to course. (If it don't sink itself first)
WTF?

My god, are you guys masochists ? ;)
Sometimes I seem to think so.
:haha:
I get bored at times if things are to easily fixed.
Things like this keep my attention until I know the answers.
That doesn't mean I will fix all the problems myself.
But I will tell anyone interested how to fix things.
For the AirCraft playing sounds when they are stuck on the ground?
Moveing the Sound Node to a part that gets destroyed works very well.
Some AirCraft need the zones re-worked to properly destroy things.
The Hurricane is a prime example of this problem.

Speaking of which, did you happen to get my PM regarding the auto reload fix? :DL
Edit: I just saw your post in the other thread, so kindly disregard and thanks for looking into it! :yeah:

@privateer
Hi mate, was just wondering if you had any new discoveries, or had delved any deeper lately?
Best regards.
