Hi there guys,
Just back from taking a break from SH5. Fired up the game and started a new campaign to find that whatever mod I used to have the god damn periscope stay down no longer works... reminds me of day 1 of SH5. Is there a single mod dedicated to keeping this bastard down? Any help with any mods in particular would be very much appreciated.
Pete :D

Welcome back Pete!
TheDarkWraith UI 6.8.0 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166093) includes the scope down fix and about a billion other fixes and vast improvements. I highly suggest trying that mod out.

Hey there, thanks for the quick reply. I have installed the mod and enabled but when I restart my career the Scope is still flying high...:damn:

I think you have to edit one of the files. TDW made it really easy to edit. Read the instructions for the mod, it must be explained in there.

Sounds like you may not have installed the mod correctly:hmmm:
Goto C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Applications\JSGME mod validator and run the validator.
This will check if the UI mod is installed in the correct path:up:

hmm interesting, when my JSGME installed it never created a validator... Only the mod enabler or is there a separate mod for a validator?
Herr_Pete

Found the Validator. Tis currently validating the mods...taking it's sweet time :hmmm:
Herr_Pete
10-15-11, 06:17 AM
Okay it has finished validating and it says every mod has installed correctly. Fired the game up again and the scope is still up. I do recall before any mods were made there was a way of editing files to lower the scope. Anyone remember how to go about it this way?

You could try the editor app - go here
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Applications\OptionsFileEditorViewer
When you run it - click file then set path to menu.txt
it is found here - C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Menu
then click file again and open. click the TDWoptions.py
The app will then load
select tab Automatics
here you will find options for scope up/down etc

I will give this a try. Is there a link for this app?

It will be here C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Applications\OptionsFileEditorViewer and is installed as part of TDW UI

I never had it in the first place haha I have very early mods since I had a long break so I'll need to download them :)
Herr_Pete

I may have messed up at an earlier stage as everyone points to Silent hunter 5/data/applications
I don't have an applications folder...
Unless this was needed for another mod that is widely used.
Trevally.

Yes you need to get the most up to date version (6.8.0)
When you unpack it to install with JSGME - make sure that the folder you put in your MODS folder is "NewUIs_TDC_6_8_0_ByTheDarkWraith" and when you look inside that folder - there is a "data" folder:up:
Herr_Pete
10-15-11, 07:54 AM
Okay dokay, I have the new TDC installed. Darkwraith is in the MODS folder, I have run the editor and set the path to
D:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Menu (will only let me finish off by setting it to Menu\menu.txt ) is that right?
Then you say click open but there is no TDWoptions.py or is this hidden away somewhere lol?
Trevally.
10-15-11, 08:04 AM
Sorry - it is called "TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py"
If you dont see it when you click "open...." it can be found here
C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Scripts\Menu
But - you may find that your scope works now with your updated version
worth checking here to see how to ensure you have installed your mods correctly

Once New UIs with TDC 6.8.0 is installed properly, the options.py is in the following location:
C/Ubisoft/Silent Hunter 5/data/scripts/Menu/TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py
Don't know what you're changing by adding .txt to menu, but I'm pretty sure you're not meant to! Once your new UI is installed, PgUp/Dn or Ins/Del raise & lower the obs/attack scopes.

Okay, reinstalled the mod. enabled it. Open the editor and I know exactly where the file is you said. Fired the game up to check if the scope was down, it isn't...
Fired up the editor.
So I click on "Set path to menu.txt..."
When I click through to TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py ( I know the exact location )
Sadly the menu folder says it is empty...hurray.
Is there any particular reason for the file not showing up when going through the editor when it is clearly there?

You can edit the useroptions.py with notepad. I've just tried the Options Viewer app and can't figure out where menu.txt is either; it's probably been mentioned by TDW in the latter part of the New UIs thread, or in the release notes on the first page.
What exactly are you trying to achieve? If you just want to be able to control the obs scope in the same way as the attack scope, then you don't need to change anything.
Trevally.

It sounds like you are not seeing the files because the mod is not installed correctly.
If it was - you would not have any scope issues and would see the options.py file.
When TDWs UI v6.8.0 is in your mods folder - run JSGME
If the UI is installed (on the right side window) unistall it so that it moves to the left side window.
When it is in the left side - right click and explore.
The very first folder you should see is a "data" folder.
Try this:yep:

I am trying to lower the observation scope as it refuses to go down. I ran the validator and it says every mod installed correctly. Before any mods were released there was a threat about editing files to lower it but I can't find that thread and every new mod doesn't seem to work for me.

Do you mean while in use, or permanently?!
Either way, you don't need to edit any files. Once you've installed TDW's New UIs with TDC (and it seems you have already), the observation scope is controlled in the same manner as the attack scope. PgUp/Dn & Ins/Del to control the two scopes respectively.
The observation scope will also return to 'away' position when you Esc out of it to return to the control room.
You don't need to modify or edit anything. Load up a new game and see if it works. You should have completed the tutorial before adding any mods (as the tutorial limits your controls for the duration, with full control only occurring when you return to Kiel and start your first proper mission), but if you've done that and can start a fresh campaign/single mission, you should be sorted.

When I start the game the Observation periscope is already up and even when lowering like you would with the attack periscope it doesn't go all the way down. So when it's fully lowered it still up...

I want to be able to start the game with the obs scope lowered and being able to lower it all the way down all the time.
