I heard rumors that we are stuck with the horrible crew managment in sh-5 and that it is virtually impossible to mod it into a sh3/4 stile crew managment. That would totally suck!! The sh5 crew managemnt is one of the biggest epic failures the game has..

Tell me about it. From someone that came directly from Sh3 to Sh5, I feel like a blind man in a crossfire.

Talking to the crew to make them do their job better? WTF were the devs thinking? This is simulation, not RPG.

SH3 crew management system and damage management system was perfect, nothing to put or to take off. And in my dictionary, you don't modify a team that is winning.

I disagree. SH3 required you to move the men around yourself or shut it off. That's actually pretty bad. SH4 fixed it, and it was near perfect.

I have to agree, SH3 crew management was shockingly bad after the initial novelty wore off...

I kinda like the little dudes. I really got to know and get attached to them. SH4's didn't have that level of interactivity to it and I never got to know any individual names.

SH5's is.. well, SH5. heh

That's true too. If they'd just take care of themselves...

SH4 needs the Commander touch. Having an unlimited database for names would help. And some randomized officer's faces. And some...

Let's face it - none of them is perfect. Mayby someday. *sigh*

I think that this issue is the biggest flaw compared SH 5 to previous entries. Actually SH 5 doesn't have a crappy crew management, it has no crew management. When playing the game, I usually forget this and it doesn't bother me. But if SH 5 had somekind of management system it would be pretty close to being just awesome subsim.

I really hope that someday one of the big guys gets time to look into this. I would be satisfied with relatively little: name, and picture of every crew member and list of their jobs. And most importantly: they must be able to be injured or even killed. And when this happens, the effectiveness (and morale?) of the crew is reduced.

If this would be possible someday, I would be a really happy sailor! :DL

finally another guy, who is really pissed off by sh5 crew "management"...i sign strongly on that. i guess tdw was the guy, who said its not possible to change the crew management. but this was about 6 month ago...maybe things have changed? as steve said, the best and most realistic management was in sh4.

i dont know. but not having a crew roster is one of the epic fails in sh5. yes...it sucks.

Hello there,
Dont mean to interrupt the discussion, but I would like to show my opinion.

SH3 management in my opinion is better, because I like micromanagement.
It turns the game more challenging when you face a long period of action.
And allows you to build the crew the way you want.

I dont dislike SH5 style, but it`s not my favorite.

I think the sh-5 style crew management is to arcady , way to arcady. It just doesnt feel like i,m dealing with a crew . It feels more like i,m dealing with some arcade characters that i can "upgrade" insted of train. I come to live with it but i still hate it..

Thought popped to my mind...

When the sub is taking heavy damage, sometimes you get "MEDIIIC!"-text in the message box. In SH 4 this meant that the crew is injured, if I'm not mistaken. Now, in SH 5 the officers can also be injured, but the medic-text isn't related to this. Officers usually get injured really easily, but there is no report of this in the message box.

So my question is that is there a working crew health system running in the background? Is my invisible crew getting injured when the "MEDIIC!"-text appears? There is lots of stuff from the earlier games in the data folder that seem to be just leftovers, could the crew health system actually work?

If we only could get the crew page to appear...
