This is Javier from Spain. I loved Das Boot, as well as Silent Hunters 2 and 3, so now I'm trying Silent Hunter 5. It seems to have a great potential despite the amount of bugs it has.

I'm thinking of upgrading the game with Sober's modlist. But there are newer versions of some of the mods he recommends (NewUIs_TDC, for example). What versions should I download?

I stumbled across a copy of Lothar-Gunter Bucheim's book and reading it brought on a bout of nostalgia for time well-wasted playing several '39-'45 careers in Aces of the Deep (and later C:AOD). I went so far as to install C:AoD on my Win7 Lappy, and relived those days of yore... you don't lose it ya know!
After stumbling into this salty tavern, I was wowed by the pretty baubles on display. Got myself a copy of SH4 in pretty short order... and loving it.
(I do miss the band on the quayside tho'... I bet there's a mod for that somewhere eh?).

Ahoy, another new soul reporting for duty with the SUBSIM :salute:
The story goes: Long ago it was, when I first experienced the thrill of a hunter silently stalking its prey... That was with Silent Service II, and really, really long ago :) At that time, this game was indeed my favorite (if I doesn't count FPS and strategies like Doom and Civilization respectively...)
And few months back I returned underwater, this time with unmoded SH III. Accidental purchase, I must admit, but most pleasant to say the truth ;) Since then, I "lost" much time on the Cruel Sea, battling the Allies. And about a week ago I needed to know something more about the game and among other results in the internet finder there was link to SUBSIM page. And here I am, trying new things, adding mods to my game to even increase my enjoyment of the game. :)

I signed up a while ago now but never posted because I never found to actually mod Silent Hunter IV. Long time subsim fan, though, going back to the days of Silent Service and Seawolf. Now I'm writing a feature on the genre and this forum for a PC games mag, part of which involves giving Silent Hunter V a (modded) second chance. I also run a site dedicated to game art/photography and look forward to sharing some choice SH5 shots.

Hey all. Wanted to introduce myself. I just got SH5 after a 3 year break from playing SH4. I never played SH3 but went way back to silent service for amiga and wolfpack and aces of the deep for pc. Anyone remember Seawolf here? Wow, that was alotta fun. Ive had a bit of a history w sub games but its been awhile. A few good books about subs later and now Im ready to dive back into the genre!! :salute:

Hello all! Was looking at Steam for a new game and stumbled across Silent Hunter 3. Had played a lot of sub sims years ago (had virtually all of them made for the Atari ST) and decided to get the latest, Silent Hunter 5. And quickly found out about SUBSIM so joined here. Lots of mods for SH5, and many seem to be necessary to patch over the rough parts of the vanilla game. I've played Europa Barbarorum (total conversion mod of Rome Total War) and toyed with its mods (which are mods of a huge mod :)) so I'm a bit familiar with doing that. So many mods, not sure which I should use. Still looking to find a good mod collection pack.

I've been lurking in the shadows for a long time(Joined on 05-22-2006 apparently) Ever since I saw the Hunt for Red October I've been fascinated by submarines and continue to search for sub movies I've yet to see(The Enemy Below/Run Silent, Run Deep are my fav's) I've just pulled out my SH5 disc, reinstalled and patched, hoping to get a little more out of it this time around, I came to download a few mods and it said I should say Hi, so Hi all and also thanks a million for all your hard work on SH3-5, it is appreciated. I've used mods for each game and they've given me a lot of enjoyment. I don't visit many forums often and rarely post, so you can expect I'll fade back into the shadows after this post but not gone. Thanks again for all the great tutorials, mods and help you guys make/give.

Good Day,

I am coming back to SH III after several years. Now being retired, I plan on enjoying the sim even more than before. I am a retired AF MSgt and a Scale Aircraft Model builder living in the DFW metroplex.

I can see I need to do a lot of catching up and mod updates fefor getting back into the sim, but it will be worth it. Besides, being retired, who needs a schedule.

Started from Silent Service (nes) like a long time ago and last played SH3 and 4. Anyway atm I thought to start SH5 career, but as there's no mega mod for SH5 which mods you guys recommend me to add to get more realistic graphics and gameplay experience for SH5. GWX3 for SH3 was awesome and that makes the game like totally new.

Modders keep up good work we appreciate you guys.

You don't need a mod for that, you just request them from the replicator.

Im back with SH5 went thru a computer upgrade and got a solid state drive. We shall see how it works. The first load time is always the longest.
