View Full Version : [REQ] Accurate depiction of TXXI sonar
I would love to see someone come out with a mod that would depict the Type XXI passive/active sonar's ability to provide a firing solution.

The simplest way to do that is by turning off Manual Targeting. I don't know if there is a way to accurately replicate something like that.

I think JO313 is telling about a mod which could simulate the very very advanced active/passive fitted in the type XXI sub.
Unfortunetly, it doesn't seem that such a mod exists. I believe that simulate this "sonar" would involve a lot of complicated things, like modifications in SH4 core files.
One of my submarines book ("Anatomy of the ship : typ XXI german submarine) describes with a lot of details the type XXI listening appartus - ie balkongerät : this sub was able to calculate a firing solution and launch torpedoes up to 50m depth...thus, without any needs to do that with scopes, nor to be at periscope depth !
The TypXXI was an extremly dangerous ennemy vessel.
Could someone confirm that ? :06:

Yes arnahud2 that is exactly what I was talking about. Ive read the exact same thing's about the TXXI sonar. It is a shame that it could'nt be modded in the game. It would be a whole lot of fun!!
