Hey, I just re-installed, booted up vanilla to check it was running before adding mods and fell in love with the orignal loading screen. How can I keep this whilst still installing GWX?
Is it just a case of backing up intro.tga?
My concern is the loading progress bar. Will this still function as normal if I just copy the original file back in after supermod installation?

That should work.
I'd say make the original JSGME ready that way you can swap it out anytime you want.

Shouldn't be a problem. I'd say copy it in and enjoy the best of both worlds! :yeah:

Probably the only thing I'd look at is the size/resolution of the two images, if they are the same or not, and whether the "space" for where the game puts the loading bar is the same size and position. Not that I know either one would make a difference except visually, but I've altered loading screen images myself and as long as I don't mess with the two things mentioned above I've never had a problem.

If all you're going to do is swap out one .tga file for another, I'd just copy the one that's there now to another location as a backup, then replace it with the other file (of the same name) that you want to use in its place.
If it's a loading screen you should know fairly quickly whether it works and looks okay once you fire things up. If it doesn't, you can just put the original file back.

Yeah, the loading screen is not a problem. This is question about JSGME in general and making mods. I looked in the JSGME readme but found no mention.
What I want to do now, is remove a file completely from the SH3 install, using JSGME.

To do it with JSGME, you'd need to create a mod for it with the proper file structure.
Main folder: name of mod (Intro TGA or whatever you want to call it)
This main folder would be the one that gets copied into your game's MODS directory.
Inside the main folder, a folder named data and inside that the same folder structure as the game's data subfolder, but you only need the folders/subfolders that the relevant file is in. Mimic that file structure until you get down to the subfolder that contains the file you want to swap in and out. In that folder, put the version of the file that you want to use.
When JSGME enables the mod, it will look at the mod's file structure and follow the folder/subfolder path you created down to where the file is, and put the new file in the same location in the game directory (while also removing and creating a back up of the file that's already there).
If you have other mods that you're using with JSGME, you can click through their file structure to see the way they're set up and the way it mimics the file structure of the game directory. I would tell you which folders/subfolders you need to create but I don't have the game reinstalled yet, so no game directory to refer to on my end. Someone else will no doubt be able to provide the specific info if necessary. :DL

Just for example, if I wanted my mod to remove intro.wmv from data/movies and didn't want to replace it with anything. How would I do that?

I don't think you can do that with JSGME - the way I understand it, JSGME can only replace existing files with alternate files of the same name, or add files that aren't already there. To completely remove something I'm pretty sure you just have to delete it from the game directory or rather move it to a backup location.

I'd be interested to hear the answer as well, but AFAIK this can't be done with JSGME. The only other option is the manual route or, (in the case of an image file), you could always swap it out for something like a 1x1 pixel marker with the same background color for virtual invisibility.

Correct...the file name is of paramount importance...if you want the game to load and not suffer a CTD.

It's possible to replace them [via JSGME] by 0 Byte dummies with the same file name.

Yeah, I figured that one out. I created notebook files and renamed them using wmv extension.
