Is there a way us players could help modders while they're doing their excellent work on Silent Hunter 5? If there is something a modder wants us to test or try out, maybe we could use this thread as a meeting place between modders and testers? I'd really like to help out somehow, and I'm sure there must be others who'd like to help modders but don't have any modding skills.

The best way is to tell modders whats annoying you in the game , even if its a small thing . You never know , someone might be able to fix it . I doubt i will be able to , but someone might .

one of the most valuable things to have help with is testing and reporting what does and doesnt work.
modding often is easy but there are times that some things take a huge amount of time and work to resolve and after all that work it is nice not to have to do endless hours of testing all by yourself to confirm what does and doesnt work.
when i was modding i often would openly ask for comments and opinions or feedback only to hear nothing (birds chirping ) so i never knew if the mod was working for everyone they way it worked on my computer or even if anybody liked it. i know they were popular because they had lots of downloads but rarely was there ever any feedback or comments posted.
a perfect example was the missing eyes bug some modders were working on where some but not enough reporting was ever done by members to help trace it down because it only effected some people yet others with the same mods and same computer setups didnt have it. eventually a solution was found only by trial and error i think.
if you want to help modders then offer feedback and testing for their mods so they can be the best they can be

Hear hear, Webster.
If you can't mod, be a good beta tester. Report what works, what is broken, and try your best to duplicate any problems you encounter, so you can report what you did to cause problem X. Provide as detailed a description as possible! Mod list/order, computer specs, OS, the whole 9 yards.

As a possible tester?
Keep notes of everything when testing!
Where, when, what, how, etc.
The more detailed the better.
It's usually the small things that slip by when testing that cause the greatest head aches!
Know the Ships you encounter and when.
Stuff like that.
