Modders:will this work? RSRD

I dislike the single merchant layers in RSRD from mid 44 on since way too many unescorted ships(large important ones) are spawned.My understanding is that in RL unescorted ships were pretty rare unless very small coastal types after mid 44 and esp in late 44 to the end.

My plan in lieu of trying to edit the layer to create my own layer, add traffic i want, name it the same as the layer "44a-Jap-Merchants" and replace the current layer with the one i c reated in RSRD.Will this work in RSRD or am I missing something.
