I know its pretty hard to get scared in video games, however one game instantly springs to mind for those that can remember,Final Doom (sequel to the legendary Doom) on the PS1!. Playing this game with the lights off and headphones on was pretty bloody disturbing. One of the scariest levels in that game was near to the end,I can only describe the level as being immersed in hell itself, with burning skies and sounds of crying babies echoing around you,all the while being chased around the level by denizens of hell trying to eat you alive! :timeout:
Really,a fantastic game in the end.
I miss the 90s...a lot :wah:

Good one.
The final level of Spear of Destiny was pretty scary to me.
Though it seems funny now.

I liked "Dracula: Sanctuary" I think it was called. Loved the atmosphere and it was the first "3-D" game I had played. Kinda spooky.
Scariest game I ever played was World of Warcraft, but that was for completely different reasons than spooky factor.

Hrm, I dunno. Cold Fear wasn't too bad, but it didn't give me the creeps like 'Shock 2 did. (How is it that psionic monkeys and large-breasted cyborgs could give me a scare, I really don't know)

I never really played that many games other than racing or sims. One of my favorites was Dino Crisis on the PS1 back in the day. That was the only game to ever make me jump when a velociraptor would jump through the glass onto you, or when the tyrannosaur would try to eat you in the office. That game had a great atmosphere!

Did anyone play Thief Deadly Shadows on PC? well,it was either the last level or close to the end you were in an asylum, and the sound effects in there were bloody creepy I can tell you.

Great game, and I may play it again someday soon :yeah:
NOTE - the above footage is not too accurate, they have obviously not configured their monitors very well, the shadows look washed out and should be darker,a LOT darker.

For me, Fallout 3 made my mind wander to bad places. Let's face it, being the sewers with freaking ghouls breathing heavy in the darkness as you make your way does raise some hairs on the back of your neck!

I have to agree,FO3 does have some disturbing moments, and yes,the ghouls sound bloody shocking, especially as you are trudging through a pitch black irradiated basement somewhere.Great atmosphere

Fallout 3 creeped me out just in walking around the Capital Wasteland; while it wasn't a one-to-one recreation of DC and the surrounding suburbs, it was still eerie seeing landmarks I'm very familiar with in that post-apocalyptic setting.
Hmm... I don't think I've ever come across a game that actually startled/scared me, but it may be that I'm not remembering, either.

Playing Resident Evil on nightshift with two colleagues, who'd fallen asleep. Walking down a corridor and some birds burst through the windows... almost pooped. Woke the other two up and re-started that section and watch them both poop too. :yeah:
Played CMR after that.
Fahrenheit aka Indigo Prophecy :yep:
And the best "jumper" I've seen was in FEAR 2 (or 1), the room with the pool
in it, the lights go out and if you have your flashlight pointed somewhat level
or slightly downwards as you scan the room, you'll see a very brief glimpse of
the little girl standing RIGHT next to you. Brilliantly executed.

An awesome game. Though I don't remember it as particularly scary. Maybe I've just completed it too many times.
From the top of my head I'd say Dark Fall 1. That game just did so many things right. The sequel wasn't as good.

Although I've never played it, I've heard horrible stories from friends who have played Dead Space and Dead Space 2

For me the scare factor in dead space did nothing as the enemies were too easy to deal with to actually be frightening.

I don't go to Ravenholm anymore.
Actually, that was just scary on the first playthrough, then it became sport!
Some of the underground levels in S.T.A.L.K.E.R were pretty hairy.

Boot Sector not found

Yeah I played that a few times but there s a scarier one called "Disk boot failure". for the last decade have kept all my Data on seperate physcial drives from OS, now it all sits on a RAID1 - which is self it backed up monthly, C: is for OS and programs and NOTHING else, though even that is imaged just in case....
I still have the MP3s I downloaded from Napster back in 2000 on 56k dial up :D

I don't remember exactly where it is on the map, but there is an extensive set of caverns somewhere in Morrowind where (apparently) the Sleepers like to hang out. There were signs of them everywhere down there. I spent most of a night raiding the place, sneaking around corners and feeling genuinely unsettled. It was a bit creepier than most Daedric ruins and abandoned strongholds I had come across. :DL
Scariest game ever: Your video card does not support Shader 3.0 :o
This was quite scary in it's time too. :yep:

Looking forward to the new game in late 2011,Skyrim! From what i've seen copious amounts of sexual stimulation by one's self will be had by all! :yeah:

Pong was by far the scariest game ever created.

I spent WAY too much time on Morrowind back in the day. Those sleeper caverns creeped me out. The noise the sleeper bells made was really creepy. I think you could even use the bell hammer as a weapon, but I don't remember. I think there was a sleeper cave northwest of Hla Oad or Gnaar Mok, but I don't remember. It was by that daedric statue where you can get Goldbrand after doing the daedric quest.

Silent Hill 3 Was disturbing.....VERY disturbing. very scary too.
Dead space and Dead space 2 were also very disturbing, and made me have aheart attack sometimes when the sneaky bastids pop out of a vent, even though i feel im always ready, there are times when you dont expect it and they burst out tof the vent, or come up from behind.
But Back in the day, when i was much younger, i played Alien Versus predator 2. pretty old game. So i was sent, alone, to restart generators.
As a human, you get motion detectors. EVERY movement shows up. Including the slight sway of a small hook, or ANYTHING. For 30 minutes i hear things rumbling around, get contacts here and there of swaying little objects. saw shadows ect.
The suspense was killing me. And when i actually DID see an alien, i nearly fell out of my damned chair.
Fallout 3 and New vegas gave me some jumps when a ghoul or something comes up from behind.

I got signals. I got readings, in front and behind.
Where, man? I don't see sh--.
He's right. There's nothin' back here.
Look, I'm telling ya, there's somethin' movin' and it ain't us! Tracker's off scale, man. They're all around us, man.
The first Stalker and the first Silent Hill. I was playing that bit in the hospital at 3am when I first ran into those manky ghost baby things. And that big empty room where the telephone suddenly rings. Totally cliched, totally predictable, totally nearly cacked myself.
I've been running through the marine campaign in Aliens versus Predator 2 over the last couple of days - nothing like the blip of the motion detector for putting you on edge!

Yes! that damned blip around a corner gets my blood going, and i charge in full auto and it turns out to be a swaying crane hook. Then my motion detector doesnt detect ANYTHING when i first see an alien burst out of the ceiling.

The library level in Metro 2033 gave me the creeps...I actually had goosebumps whenever I saw one of those pesky librarians. Gotta get myself a copy of Stalker.
Actually Doom 3 and Resident Evil 1 had their moments :woot:
Agree that Staker and all the silent hills did a good job

Doom 3 definitely spooked me a couple times.
All of the STALKER games had their moments, I've played all 3.
and...lets seee....there was something, I can't remember it.
The final level of Spear of Destiny was pretty scary to me.
Though it seems funny now.
I can relate to that, the first true 3D game was Wolfenstein 3D, to me it was so real, it felt like I was there, and when I got to the end of level 3 IIRC the character was Dr Schabs and threw syringes at you, but it was the start of this level when he called out this evil laugh, my hair stood up on end, silly now but at the time I was shaking like a leaf!!:yep:

This game was freakin scary! My kid brother and my "ex" watched me play it. It gave both of them nightmares.:haha: (no joke)
The scene I remember the most was being chased by the haunted skeletons. They chase you through the map, you run and hide in the furnace room, and when you turn around, they jump at you and they melt.
