after the total disater that was sh5, i am now (since they are bargain bin priced atm) thinking about buying the game

i played sh4, was ok,

supposing i can live with the awful drm , is it worth the time to play it?

are the bugs fixed?

what mods are good, easy to install, and fix bugs.

i am looking at enviromental,CAMPAIGN , and interface mods, i dont want a super realistic mod , since is too much of a pain, (more dud torpedoes....for instance..., magical destroyers etc).

there are hundreds here, and i have a job, so you will understand time constrains, i just cant juggle lots of mods which might be uncompatible or cause CTD.

maybe the moderators could mark the mods so we knew wich ones are good or not.

but in any case what do you experience people recommend? ( please please not manual torpedo target mods .)

thank you so much.

also has anyone(groups of modders) thought of contacting ubisoft, re=release the game with a new campaign not ending in 1943 and get paid for it ? ( you deserve it , it pisses me off modders get nothing for their work ).

just a possibility, the game tanked so much ubisoft might be interested in doing a deal and employing some people to recoup some money......

for instance if you where soooo good at your submarine fleet, it could even disrupt the USA landings and make the war won by the Germans , not truly realistic, but imagine the boom if your sub fleet was responsible for winning the war.......

When a game tanks, the publisher just moves on to the subjects that make it money. They're not going to raise the price or pay modders no matter how good the mods are when it's already been languishing in the bargain bin for months.

for instance if you where soooo good at your submarine fleet, it could even disrupt the USA landings and make the war won by the Germans , not truly realistic, but imagine the boom if your sub fleet was responsible for winning the war.......Imagine the boom when the USA drops the atomic bomb on Berlin because it can't make it's landings. A tactical U-Boat sim shouldn't be about determining the winner of the war. There are too many other variables. That's what grand strategic sims are for.

Not gonna happen, for the reasons torplexed pointed out.

Its possible UBi would licence another company to make an expansion pack - like they did with SH3. BUt if the game has sold as badly as people are saying then there are not going to be any takers.
Its sad to think that SHV and its engine has somewhat gone to waste, what is in there in there is pretty good, but it needs alot more.
Modders can only do so much as there are aren't many of them and they only have so much free time.

Bottom line is that SHV really needed another 6-12 months additional development time in the first place. It didnt get it, it got DRM'd and condemed by large proportion of its target audiance.
What ever happens in the future, its gonna be too little too late to 'turn it around' for the masses, that ship has sailed. When a game has doesnt have a good rep on release - it sticks like glue.

sounds like a hint of brainwashing to me.

People over exaggerate the seriousness of DRM. first of all, constant DRM has been removed. Second, DRM is NOT a big enough deal to completely steer clear of the game.

The game, JUST like SH4, was buggy at the start. with mods SH5 has surpassed SH4 in almost every way. This game is VERY enjoyable, and it sounds to me like the domino effect reaching all these people not wanting to buy it because of DRM. A couple people hate DRM, and then it spreads to make people think DRM is something that WAS someithng that was unbearable. Now, constant connection has bee dropped. You now only need internet for startup. and people still refuse to buy it because of DRM.

i think you need to get over it and start looking at the possibilities this game has to offer you now.

To be honest. I don't think YOU would be happy with SH5. :yep:

No offence but, your post sounded kind of negitive.

So save your $10.00 and buy something you'll like. :DL

Yes, I think you should consider getting SH5. I think it is well worth the money charged for it on Amazon, or other similar sites. No, it is not perfected yet, but we are working on it:yep:.

And, don't worry about us modders, we don't need money for our work, a little recognition is more than enough in my book.

When a game tanks, the publisher just moves on to the subjects that make it money. They're not going to raise the price or pay modders no matter how good the mods are when it's already been languishing in the bargain bin for months.

I both agree and disagree on this issue. On the one hand we should try for max realism, so we should play out the war as it should be. On the other hand there are folks who feel kind of cheated playing an ace quality campaign and getting the exact same result at the end.:hmmm:

It is not going to waste. Trust me, those of us who have gravitated to SH5 and are sticking with it are determined to make it what it should have been. Myself, Sober, TDW, Reaper7, Zedi, TheBeast, stoianm, Rongel, nozaurio, Dr Jones, Obelix, iambecomelife, and Venatore just to name a few are all hammering away at it.

So is it gone?

Before you read something into that that isn't there, given the price right now I think it's silly to ask the question. Just buy it and find out.

Constant drm? Yes. The way it works now is it checks online at start up, then you no longer need an internet connection. I use Satellite internet, so this is a godsend to me.

Do I like having to check at start up, no. But, at least we are heading in the right direction.

Agreed, about buying and finding out for yourself, the price couldn't be more right.

Just so theres no misunderstandings. I have SH5 installed and heavily modded.

Just like I have multi-installs of SH3 and SH4-UBM heavily modded.

I like them all. :yep: When somebody posts and wants me to convince them to buy a game that their negitive about in the first place that's only $10.00. :nope:

Well you saw my polite response. Besides all the answers are there repetively on SH5 Forum F.T.L.O.C. :DL

SH3-5 have had alot of hard work put in to them. Their threads at least deserve a reading.

What happens when UBI says, "screw it", and pulls the plug on the DRM server? Then no one will be able to play SH5 at all!

Not the case. Ubisoft is legally bound to release a "patch" to allow purchasers to play DRM free if that were to happen.

Well to be honest... I was the "flagship" of SH5 resistance and critics... and following some events:

- dropped restrictive DRM
- Doubled web-speed by my internet provider
- new campaign (gameplay) on horizon... (Zeni ?)
- total disappointment with expected Cliffs of Dover (alternative sim)
- Some gorgeous new graphics

...etc. I am seriously reconsidering the order of SH5.

I still think that Ubi does not deserve any of our "bucks" but this gorgeous modding community deserves my attention...

There are still some "nails in a coffin"... like missing normal 3d torpedo-splash or fixed external-view to U-boat... immersion killers.

( Sub-simulation without 3d torp water-splash... is like Soccer World Cup without goals and nets)

All togather... if your life offers you a lemon - make a lemonade.

All Ubisoft games run on the same DRM server, so if ubi turns off the server, it not just SH5, but all Ubisoft games. Thats why its very unlikely. But...

Taken from the SH5 EULA....
C:\Program Files(x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\EULA

You understand and agree that this Multimedia Product requires an online connection at all times and the Multimedia Product must be played through the Internet services provided at ubi.com. In the event Ubisoft terminates or discontinues Internet services associated with this Multimedia Product, Ubisoft will provide a software update that will allow the User to utilize the Multimedia Product without connecting to Ubisoft's servers.

So as SteelViking said, they are legally bound to release a patch to remove the DRM.

Pretty ironic since before the game's release I was regulaly branded as a 'Fanboy' here, for asking people to stop bashing it and to give it a chance!
Maybe I also should remind you that I bought the game on pre-order, (DRM and all)
I wasnt dissing the game - just pointing out the obvious in saying it was a missed opportunity in many ways (which it is) and that the poster should not get his hopes up over any further SHV development from Ubi or another Developer.

If you actually read my post properly, I said the DRM put many people off at the time, but it sure as hell didn't stop me.
What there is of SH5 + mods it is pretty good and its certainly worth the money that you'd pay for it now. but regardless it needed alot more (in my opinion).

Now then, why has myself (and Torplexed?) gotta be treated with suspicion just because we havent posted here in a while? If I didn't give a damn about SHV I would not be here simple as that.

@JU_88 if anything I said offended you, I am sorry, that was not my intention. I don't mean to assign people labels, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and should be able to make that opinion known.

I simply want to make sure the SH5 modders are given their fair shot at SH5 before people start thinking "the ship has sailed."

Only you can tell if it's worth it.

Personally I bought it at the bargain basement price, but I've hardly touched it yet, the little I did with it looked good and I haven't regreted my purchase.

You didnt offend me at all - no need to aplogise. ;)
I just meant the "ship has sailed" for any further offical work.
its a shame that the titles future pretty much rests on the shoulders of the modders, as thats not the way its supposed to be.
Like many im still a little bit dissapointed the way things turned out, but im not a hater :yep:

It's not totally bad, some games are online only - what's the difference?

Nothing really. I wouldn't discourage someone else from playing the game because of my own peculiarities. On the other hand, if I had to log into MGM's website before I could watch a movie I bought, or into Sony's site before I could listen to a CD I bought. I probably wouldn't see any movies or listen to any music either. That's how strongly I feel about the concepts involved. But that's just me.

I wouldn't have gotten into this again at all if someone hadn't suggested brainwashing on the part of people opposed to it. That, thought I, deserved an answer.

Since I buy most of my games through Steam (SH5 is no exception), I need an internet connection to play almost all of them :D

The DRM is a non issue at this point, IMHO. I've owned the game for over a year, and just started seriously getting into it. It was a similar path for me with other SH products. Modded, this is a fun game currently to me, nothing else like it anywhere.

Never meant to diss the game, nor did I mention DRM. Was just pointing out to the OP that once a publisher turns their back on a product and cuts their losses along with the price they rarely glance back over their shoulder.
