I have paid off the PS3 version of Portal 2, because it was my first choice for the game. On Friday I purchased the PC version too, because of the possibility of getting it early.

Well, I just found this part out:
With Portal 2 releasing in just a few days on the PS3, a lot of gamers are wondering the limitations that they might have on the FREE Steam copy packed with the game.
Every brand new PS3 copy will include a voucher code inside the game. The question is, does this mean that I can give this to a friend that has Steam account so that we can play together? Yes, the Steam voucher code that is included in your PS3 copy will act as a stand-alone game.
When you get the voucher code, you can do whatever you want with it: you can sell it to get your money back, or give to a friend. The code isn’t DRM’d or bound to you, so giving it to a friend is quite possibly the best option as it will allow you guys to play the co-op with each other.
It’s much like a buy one get one free deal. The code to download via Steam is only available for the PS3 version of Portal 2.

Long story short, I have 3 copies of Portal 2. One of these is extra and I can give it away. So I'm announcing that I'm giving it away. I guess I'll turn this into some sort of competition.

Edit: It may not be giftable. I'll get back to this tomorrow. The biggest thing about this is the FU---moment when I realized I didn't need to spend the extra $40.

It's not giftable and is tied to your PS3 version/PSN ID.

It is also only redeemable once. Cancel your PC version purchase.

Shame really, as I don't have a PC capable of running Portal 2 my redeem will go to waste.

I do like the Steam integration on the PS3 version, we can play co-op and chat with anyone on our PS3 Friends List and anyone on your Steam List. Cross platform play FTW.:DL

Isn't it a bit too late? It usually takes 24-48 for them to cancel.

Edit: I also already gave away the free portal copy.

Yeah, you're stuck with a Standalone PC Version now.

Ah well. I feel portal 2 was worth the money. I would've bought a CE if they had one.

You need two Steam accounts involved to play multiplayer online. You can't join yourself on PC with PS3 using the same account at the same time. It's mostly a technical issue where various systems just don't expect a single player with the same SteamID to be joining his or herself.

On PS3 your wife can just create her own local user profile, PSN account, and new Steam account and join you on your PC copy. You can still have your local user profile and PSN account linked to your Steam account on the PS3 as well.

Valve employee in the steam forums.

So I think the PC code does let you gift the game.

Just finished playing an hour of the game. This was worth the wait(and the extra $40). GLaDOS is really mean this time around.

So how long is the single player anyway?

I've heard eight hours mentioned.

I have four hours under my belt. Don't know how much farther I have to go.

8 hours is decent. Some rumors floating around that you can get through it in 4 hours, but aparently that would require a true "speedrun".

Which leads me to a point: lot of nonsense going around about the game. And aparently /v/ (what is that anyway?) board has taken it upon themselfs to drag the game down on its Metacritic rating.

So, yeah, haters gonna hate. Pathetic bunch of <insert personal preference>.

4chan's video game board...

Ah, that. How does that still exist anyway? You'd think it would be hacked to hell and back by now. :shifty:

So far I have heard that the SP section of the game is 8 to 10hrs, the Co-op section is about the same but with much harder puzzles.

I'm still in two minds about this game for the PS3, at almost £10 more than the PC edition, it's verging on my Hours vs £s borderline. May still wait for a £ reduction.

It's important to note that PC generated/modded levels will be playable/shareable to the PS3 version.:yeah: Valve are unsure how these will be distributed, probably through the integrated steamworks system on the PS3 version.

I guess I'll give a little mini review up to my progress so far:

PROS:

The game looks great, the computer suggested a level of AA (i think 4) so that there are no jaggies at all(compared to Portal 1, which has horrible jaggies on my computer, but also suggests 0 AA).
The PC version, even on my PC which is technically inferior to my PS3, looks amazing.
The dialogue is 100% superb. There were several chuckle and laugh moments thus far. Also GLaDOS is mean, but what do you expect for someone who has been plotting your demise for ever.
Several puzzles actually made me stop and scratch my head to figure it out. I actually gave up on one of the puzzles yesterday, going to get on now and try it again.
There are hidden areas and easter eggs to find, some of them are obvious some are more obscure.

CONS:

Horrible loading system, I don't know the reasoning, but there are several loading sequences. It feels like you get a loading sequence more often then you do in the original Half Life. I doubt the consoles are to be blamed for this, as both Portal 1 and Half Life 2 didn't have these many loading screens. Although the number of loading screens may be the same from Portal 1, just more obvious for the fact that instead of getting your screen frozen for a second with the word "Loading" you get an actual Loading screen. This isn't that much of a deal as the loads only run a couple seconds.
There is the expensive store to buy things for your Co-op bots, but it's not a requirement.
The game adopted the Left4Dead marker system, where in the beginning of the game giant arrows point to where you need to pick up something, push something, etc. Although this isn't really an issue, as it eventually disappears from the later part of the game. Also in this system is the ability to see where your portals are through walls.

I would honestly give this game a 10/10. I feel it was worth the wait.

As soon as I finish the campaign I want a Co-op partner!

The 2 things I don't like are that store and the price. I know the whole store is optional, but the last thing I want to do is encourage Valve to put it in every bloody game they release. And €50,-... bit rich for what it is imho. Inclined to wait untill it hits €40,-.

I mean, compare it to say, Shogun 2. Single player campaign takes you a good while to get through, and it plays out different each time, even if you pick the same clan. Then there's the coop-campaign, versus campaign and the other online options.

Portal 2 just offers a fully linear story and a fully-linear coop story... for the same price. I did play through the original a few times, but there really isn't any replay value. I'd say Valve is getting greedy, the price at release and that store certainly convinced me of that. :-?

(rant)

Not to mention that whole ARG thing; how many people bought games from that potato sack, or the whole thing, only to see the game released, what, 2 hours early? Sure, I appreciate them promoting those indie titles but part of that money is going into Newell's pockets.

Good news, bad news and good news again.

Good News: I am able to give away the PC portal 2 copy that came with my Ps3 copy.

Bad News: I gave it to Krauter

Good News: Krauts now has Portal 2.

For those interested I did it like this:
Created a PSN account with Krauts name
I logged into Portal 2 with Krauts PSN, and then linked it to his Steam Account(he had to take a leap of faith here and give me his Steam information)
I then gave him the code that came in my box allowing him to unlock the game
He is now currently downloading Portal 2 for the PC.

This may be on the thin line of being legal and not. But as I technically own the PC version twice, I think legally I'm allowed to give it away.
