Hi SH4ers,
A few weeks ago I contacted sidslotm about our interest for the British campaign that lurker created with WDAD.
Unfortunately, seems like lurker has given up SH4 modding, and the WDAD project was left unfinished, so after sidslotm created a couple of Singleplayer missions set in the Med, I had the idea of somehow build campaign layers to play a sub out of Malta. A lot of work was already there thanks to what lurker did in the first part of WDAD, but also a lot had to be added. I've sent a PM to lurker to get permission to use his layers, but I'm afraid there's no answer by now. In case he doesn't say a word, I'll have to make from scratch some of them myself (with a loss in quality I'm afraid, but there's no other option). The mod will run in SH4 1.5, on top of the original WDAD mod.
Little by little, reading a lot around the forums here, learning my way in the files of SH4, the Campaign is shaping up. At the start it was a 1941 campaign for a U-class sub out of Malta. By now it lets you use a U or a T-Class starting in Malta, Gibraltar or Alexandria from 1940 to 1943, with patrol zones all around the Mediterranean (from Sardinia up to Syria), and also Flying Carpet missions to bring supplies to Malta or landing Commandos in different spots of the enemy coast. You could even be ordered to transport Chariots to the surroundings of an Italian base.
I got permission from a few SH3 modders to build up the Italian Fleet, which until now had only in WDAD the Soldati Class Destroyers.
VonDos gave me permission to use his ships, which include the Duilio Battleship, and the Trento, Montecuccoli and Barbiano cruisers, as well as the San Giorgio Armoured cruiser and the Gradisca Hospital Ship.
While not 100% secure, because he has dissapeared from SH modding scene, Gerome_73 lends his Littorio-class Battleship Roma. I contacted the person who uploaded that ship to SubSim, and also someone who had recently asked him for a similar thing for one of his works. I'm confident that, as long as proper credit is given, there would be no problem in using it.
Then I've used a couple of ships already in WDAD to act as Italians. That includes a German TB to act as the Italian Torpedinieri, which are roughly similar to an allied DE, and also a Japanese Subchaser, for the Gabbiano class of corvettes. Also added to the Italian roster a few different merchant ships, to have variety.
Right now I'm also trying to contact the creators of the Baltic Mod to get permission to use the nice Zara class cruiser they did. In case that is not possible, the German Hipper is in WDAD and can be quite convincing as a Zara.
Of the main ships, the only class really lacking is proper fleet destroyers, which by now are only represented by the Soldati. If anyone is interested in doing extra DD classes, that would be very welcome.
I'd like to hear your opinions, comments and ideas, and when I have a Beta version, a few volunteers to test would be great. I will also probably ask you for help when I meet unknown stuff.

Man oh man cant wait, sounds great! It'd be nice to try hunting Italian subs along with the rest of the Italian Fleet. Also it'd be interesting to be able to transfer to the Indian/Pacific Ocean later on in the campaign we things slowed down in the Mediterranian, like when Italy surrenders.
Nonetheless great start to a wonderful sounding campaign MOD please keep up the great work!!!:yeah:

The plan is to add a few German and Italian subs on patrol and in and out of harbours randomly. I still would need to check how they are implemented in the original game or one of the big mods, but I think its doable, as German subs are already in WDAD, and Keltos did a nice Italian AI submarine that could be used. Anyway, it would be at a later stage. I've stopped work for a while, to see if Lurker says something about the PM I sent him.
The transfer to the IO is more problematic. There is a gap of about three-four months between the finishing of the Med campaign and the start of Lurker's WDAD, and I'm not sure on how to do it. Perhaps later on, but for now the idea is to focus on the Mediterranean, which I think is more intense.

you are more than welcome to use it, as it was intended for Sidslotm and a med campaign for the U/T class boat.

I've just made a quick layer with a few submarines, both German and Italian, mainly for testing purposes. Anyway, they are hard to meet in that big sea, but at least gives you another thing to worry about (and also another target :D).

Hi Krauter,
some of VonDos models for SH3 are actually SH5 models converted. I'm sure the Trento, Barbiano and Montecuccoli cruisers come from SH5. Don't know if there are any other Italian models in SH5 that could be ported to SH3/4.
THIS is one of the mods I've been waiting for....

or as the submarines that were based at Malta were part of the 10th flotilla why not
"The Mighty 10th" or "The Fighting Tenth" or

In order to solve the lack of Italian escorts, I've added the Turbine Class Destroyers with my meager S3D skills (starting from a V-W Class DD).

The bad news is that, after three weeks, I got no reply from Lurker, so that means that I will have to create new layers for Italian and neutral shipping and the docked ships, and remake some of the convoys to North Africa.
A Beta version will have to wait a bit longer.

Since Torbay spent a great part of her career in the Mediterranean, I thought it could be an interesting read. Has anybody here read it?
I've just found out that in www.uboat.net there are patrol reports of UK submarines as well (sadly, the only ones I've found online), so I'm making a few additions to the patrol areas and target selection, as well as some more convoy routes.
I've also found, after adding a number of messages to messages.txt and deleting most of the Pacific ones, that now it doesn't work properly. Probably a format problem. Has anybody more info about this file?.
Then I have a question for keltos01. You did a version of the T-Class with the three rear firing tubes (the Dutch Zwaardvisch), but I think it is not compatible with the 10-forward tubes version. Is it possible to have it reworked so they can both be eligible in the campaign?.

Messages.txt I've always found easiest to work with in a spreadsheet, like Excel. Import textfile and once finished, just export as tab-formatted text.

There are snippets, not close to all of them, but something at least. Some T-Class boats also have a nice Googlemap thing with some of their positions during patrols. Check HMS Torbay (http://www.uboat.net/allies/warships/ship/3498.html), here is where I found the reference to that book.

and the 11th tube causes CTD when using the TBT, never could fathom why because it works in the scope view.

OK, keltos. Thanks for the explanation.
Don't worry about it, it is probably a problem with the game rather than the submarine. I'll leave as it is, with the 10-forward tubes version.

No idea. I don't understand why it won't work. This is something that worries me a lot, because the state of the war in North Africa dictated where did the convoys go to, and this is a very important info in our context.

Just played my first war patrol from Malta-june 1940 with a U-class, sank a frieghter & missed two tankers:damn:
Played great, no bugs to report thus far.
Only thing i noticed was that for June in the Med. off tripoli thier was heavy fog for several days stright. Is this normal & is thier even a way to fix this? If not i understand.

WDAD_V100
Med campaign
and it all works great no problems
i did try it with the WDAD_V100_patch
But it crashed at start up so i just use
WDAD_V100 and the med campaign

It has not been tested on OM. Requirements for this campaign are SH4 patched to v1.5 and WDAD by lurker_hlb3
in my Generic mod enabler i just have
WDAD_V100
Med campaign
and it all works great no problems
i did try it with the WDAD_V100_patch
But it crashed at start up so i just use
WDAD_V100 and the med campaign

I'll have to test this a bit more. I copied the patch over the 1.00 version of WDAD because it was a very minor update, and then over this I worked on the campaign.
The order of enabling should be WDAD, then WDAD patch and lastly this campaign.

I am coming into this late in the game, so to speak. What is WDAD? Is this mod ready or just being tested? What are required downloads? I have mult-sh4. Should I set up a new game for this mod?

That gun looks a bit off :haha:.
Can this be easily fixed? I looked at the equipment file and there is a 105mm gun linked to node M02, but there is no M02 node I could find in the .dat file :o, so I'm lost.

Another question, this time about the campaign set-up.
In mid-42 the 1st Flotilla moved from Alexandria to Beirut due to Rommel forces advancing to El Alamein. Also in late 42 the subs based in Gibraltar moved to Algiers, saving a good number of miles in and out of base.
Which is the best way to do that?
For instance, the move to Algiers. At first I created a new flotilla with a single base, but then realised that adding a second base to the already existent flotilla seemed to work the same.
The stock game uses the second method (when Asiatic Fleet moves from Manila to Surabaja first and then Fremantle), but I'd like to hear opinions about possible problems using either one or the other.

Yes, easily fixed, Just add an M02 nodes just like the M01 node, then position it.

Thanks, Peabody, but it didn't work. Now I have two guns, the M02 105mm one correctly positioned, and the previous one (a 3in perhaps?) that is still in the same odd place.

Apart from the .eqp file, is there any other way to put a gun on a submarine?
EDIT:Found the culprit: it is a 37mm gun, and the node was in the conning tower dat, not in the submarine. NULLified it in the .eqp file and ready to go :rock:.

I stongly recommend you do not filp the 2 aft tubes to face forward if you can help it. the model above is a Group 3 T-class, Group - 1 had the two forwards firing tube amid ships, but the design of the sub looked TOTALLY different to the Group 3.

Hopefully someone someday will create a S-Class sub, but no, for the moment it is not in the plans. You can use the early T-Class and the U-Class.
No idea about your problem with saved games. I have never had a problem with them, but I'm using an NVIDIA card. I've had random crashes to desk while running the campaign, but I have them as well with the stock game sometimes, so I'm not very worried about it.

JU_88 sent me a new Adua class sub and a MAS boat. I'm spent some time toying with the MAS boat last night, but probably will need someone who can convert it into a .dat file for SH4. My 3D editing skills really stink :har:.
To cure my depression with my 3D fiasco, I've edited the crew of the T-Class boat. It was a bit overcrowded in my opinion, with almost 80 souls packed in there. I've reduced the crew to sixty-three, and also reduced the number of specialists:

British Campaign is still working, heh, and should be at a test stage soon. I'm a bit of a slow worker and need to get out quite a bit else I get still crazy. I can't help thinking about the poor humans sitting there day after day creating games in offices year in year out, I recon the Ubi devs must have burned themselfs out creating SH5.

I'll probably do it for both sub classes, as the U-class is also a bit packed with sailors. Work for this deals with editing the sub and the conning tower .UPC files. Quite simple, but a bit boring.
And finally, after a good number of hours, I found what was going wrong with the messages. Now they finally know how to find their way to your sub radio :haha:. Another tedious job to do :rotfl2:.

My mistake was as simple as forgetting one of the fields indicated in the top of messages.txt.
Right before the proper message there should be a field like this: [INVOLVED SHIPS,INVOLVED SHIPS]. It wasn't in my file, because I took the original message.txt as a template, and in that file there is nothing there :hmmm:. I don't know exactly why, the original works but mine didn't (maybe it is related to the use of tabulators, I'm not sure).
I just added [..] to all messages and then started to receive them in my boat.

Scale may not be 100% accurate, but at least I got it to show inside the game. No textures show up in the boat though. Strangely, the torpedoes show some texture which I'd say that wasn't in the 3DS file he sent me :o.

The torpeedos were Sh3 models used as place holders - i never mapped or skinned them, I can fix this for you if you want.
Bascially need a seperate skin for the torpedos and they need to be assigned a different MAT ID

Yes, those shots were when I got it into the game (I was so happy :D). It now has a DC rack astern. I wonder if they were ever equipped with some kind of hydrophones (don't think they ever got an active sonar). Other motorboats in the game don't have any ASW detection systems.
I've set a layer for them (and German S-boote) to randomly appear in certain areas at night. I guess it could be a nasty surprise to be in the surface at night to recharge batteries and meet a group of these bitches at short range running at you at 40 knots.

I don't think so. I used the Vosper by Sergbuto as a guide to import the MAS, and in the equipment files he used a VirtualTorpedo in a M01 node. I added one in the MAS, but I have no idea whether it works or not.
But I can confirm that set as patrol craft, after adding a hydrophone, they search for you and drop depthcharges.

A brief report to bump the thread a bit :har:.
I think I'm finished with JU_88's MAS. I gave some textures to the torpedoes using a 3D program I'm slowly learning to use. Here's the result:

A couple of days ago I decided to make a test, to see what was I capable of with the 3D editor. I took a Kent Class Cruiser in WDAD and tried to convert it into a Spanish Canarias Class cruiser. Removed the bridge, added a new funnel, changed a few things, and then had a long fight with S3D and SH4 to make it work. It's been a two-day fight, but I'm proud of the results:

It won't be in the mod because I have no idea about who the author of the original Kent is (it is not stock), but it opens the way for me to try to rework some other ships.
Also in the last hours I found a nice Italian WW1 vintage destroyer in the FOTRS mod, and received permission to use it, with one inconvenient: they are not the real creators of the ship. They reworked it but can't remember who is the author. The ship folder is called NDASirtori, if anybody knows something about that matter, I'd like to ask before adding it to the download.

I checked a few webs, and there were about 20 of these old WW1 destroyers doing escort and ASW duties in the Mediterranean. I'd really like to have them in the campaign.

When everything is ready, there will be a new download that will substitute the previous one. You will have to delete the old folder and install the new one.
Unfortunately, due to the number of changes made, that will probably render previous saved games useless. Take it into account if you have a long career.

Most British submarines in the first six months of the war in the Mediterranean were of these classes. They suffered heavy losses, and had to be replaced by the better known U and S boats, but still the survivors of the early onslaught were important in keeping Malta supplied throughout the dark days of 1941-42.
They would be a nice addition to the campaign, and of course I would add them, but only if they are in the form of a SH4 playable sub. Unfortunately, creating subs out of 3D models is out of my reach.

Excellent :yeah:. You can bet that I'd love to have all those sub classes in the Mediterranean campaign then. With those three, the U-Class by Dagon and the T-Class that Keltos is reworking from the JU_88 model, the only important British class missing in SH4 will be the S-class boat.
i have only questions about campaign of your mod: can we add campaign layers from OM, for example? readme file says that this is not historical campaign, i would like to add it to the Med campaign, of course, we need permission to do it.
On my side there is no problem. You can take the campaign and tweak it and twist it as you please. My intention has always been to spark enough interest to lure the real good modders into this. I'm just an amateur here.
One thing about OM layers: they are included in WDAD, as lurker_hlb3 had planned to expand the mod with Atlantic and Mediterranean campaigns, but the ones for the Mediterranean (the only part I checked) start only when the U-boote went there at the end of 1941. There is nothing before that date.
Also, the Axis side of things was probably added just to give some flavour to the German campaign, and didn't look as historical as, for example, the British convoys and naval operations. Not surprising, as until now there were no other Italian warships for SH4 than the Soldatis, and also because in a campaign what you really need well done is enemy traffic, not friendly. I've done something similar now, minimizing the Allied units and traffic.

I just installed this, I don't play SH4 much since I found the stock game so unchanging and unrealistic but I love this mod! :up:
I think I just got killed by a circle runner in my 'T' class boat near Tripoli. I was was aiming at a 7000 ton tanker in a convoy when I fired all my tubes (it was at a little over 3,000 meters/yards so I wanted a large spread) when something takes out my periscope and floods the tower. First I thought I was rammed (I now think it was a very circle runner since I was shallow due to the heavy seas) Bow torpedo, the tower, control and the engine room all start flooding and I lose depth control. I figure I'm doomed when I see the depth gauge read over 500 feet, then I hit bottom! But I couldn't blow sufficient air in to the tanks to surface before the pressure crushes the boat (makes sense since bow torpedo, and the tower were flooded and the other two compartments were half full).
I did nailed the tanker btw (using manual TDC too)... :haha:

TLAM Strike, you must have been very unlucky with that circle runner. The chances are really really slim, as the British Mk.VIII torpedoes were very, very reliable (contact pistol only though).

One question, has anyone else had any trouble with the U Class? When I reload a save game all the dials and gauges in the interior view stop working and get stuck at the 12 o'clock position?
Or have I got a bit of mod soup going on? If it's just affecting me I'll try a clean install.

Well, well you are suffering from an old known bug. This was adressed a more than year ago.
This problem is related to another Uboat on the campaign files than the player's uboat (AI uboat, cloned or not). In that long time ago I and Sergei just find that only a correctly cloned uboat must be used for AI uboats. So, someone here put a not well cloned or even not cloned uboat on the campaign SCR file. Just delete them (or use a AI uboat that is on the original GW/HT folders) and the bug will go away.

Not being aware of this problem, I added a couple of submarines in the player starting harbours, to give some atmosphere. They are the same units as the player subs, and seem to be the ones causing this problem. Since I don't usually use the interior view, I hadn't noticed anything wrong with it. Apologies.
A simple solution would be deleting those subs in the file \Med Campaign\Data\Campaigns\Campaign\Med_HarborTraffic .mis with the mission editor. The "professional" way would be creating AI versions of the player subs, but this is something I can't do for the moment.
Unrelated to all that, seems like I found what was causing a crash in the museum. There were a couple of German ships in WDAD that were missing their textures. When I corrected that using the ones Lurker used in OM, and after a really long loading time, the museum worked. I have also found a JSGME function that allows to eliminate previous files while the mod is enabled, so I can eliminate from the roster the ships of, for instance, Lithuania, which were loaded by WDAD but are not needed at all in the Mediterranean, lightening (I hope) the loading times. I still need to do some testing, but it seems to work fine.

The first contact on the first patrol of HMS Tribune was a small convoy containing a Huge-Fast Troop Transport! Looks like some Italian general will be a brigade short.

Yeah, the Mediterranean makes a very different campaign, not only because it's small, but also because your subs are somewhat slow compared to the US and German boats (specially the U-Class), and you need to spend the daylight time at periscope depth due to enemy air cover.

Historically, there were only 10 subs in Med on 6/10/40, and they were mostly based in Malta. The traffic was mostly around Italy so that's where the patrols should be for the most part for the first couple months.
2. Italian ASW in the game is just shocking. I know they don't have sonar. but can something be done? They are absolutely irresponsive. I just floated (by accident) into the middle of their task force and downed 3 battleships and destroyers are just doing nothing.
3. Sirtori has Hydrophone and Sonar specified in the sns file, but the nodes H01 and N01 aren't specified in the dat file, perhaps you might want to add them?

To be honest, I haven't tried on 1.4. I just recommend 1.5 because so it is for WDAD.
It may be a good excuse to update your SH4 :D. I think that SH4+UBM is pretty cheap this days.

However, with a Hydrophone only they probably are just not programmed to do anything, so even if they can hear me they are clueless as to what to do since the sonar part is missing. maybe it's better to give them some sort of poor primitive sonar so at least they could try to find me?

In 1940 I think it's fine the way it is now, since RA didn't do much work for the Navy, neither search or ASW. Later on, when the Germans arrive in 1941 I think air coverage is adequate, reaching its peak in Mid 1942.

Unfortunately no. We will have to live with the Sparviero and the German planes.
Regarding the Hydrophone question, more testing is needed. I'm not giving the Italian escorts an active device earlier than historical without a good reason. This is why I wish some more people would report on things like that.

Yes there are IJN flags. When Keltos built the sub he was working on the IJN Campaign and I believe they were to indicate "Kills".
I think they are on the texture for the Turret. "NSS_UK_DG_turret_T01.dds" but I haven't heard from Keltos in quite a while, so I can't confirm that. But I think for the sub to be used in the WDAD they could be easily removed by eliminating them from the texture listed above which is in the Data/textures folder. It is in the TLowres and the TNormal folders. But do change(sorry EDITED HERE...DO NOT CHANGE) the name, size or anything else on the texture or it will mess up.

First let me say thank you for your hard work.
Playing the Med-Campaign makes a lof of fun.
I always wanted to play on the Royal Navy's side against the axis.
Well, I also have some reports for you.
At first I have the same problem with frozen instruments after saving and reloading.
Actually I play a career from Malta in a U-class sub, starting at earliest beginning in 1940. Meanwhile I have reached the end of the year.
The whole time I have only been attacked by an airplane one single time.
The buggy problem seems to be, that the enemy plane can not locate my sub in almost every case.
I have italian Sparvieros that flying closer than 500 yards to my sub, almost directly over my boat. The weather conditions are fine. Bright sunshine, calm sea, great long distance view and the enemy planes don't react on me.
My deckcrew could throw with potatoes at them.
I actually changed all Visuals and sensors files to the ones from TMO and it works fine. I tried to sink a fishing trawler last night (it took close to 70 shells woow), and he called for help I guess because 2 planes showed up and tried to bomb me, but missed. Then I ran into one of my own created bomb missions random groups and they pounded me but again mostly missed.
This mod has a good potential, just needs to be worked on.
Incidentally, can anyone edit a dds texture file? We can have an Italian seaplane then.

Standard British doctrine was to patrol submerged during the daylight hours, and I usually do that. Still, while on the surface in passage to and from my PZ I've been attacked by planes a lot of times during different careers (mostly due to time compression :down:), so they work.

Ro-43 which is almost exact copy of Pete. So if someone can edit the dds texture for Pete from green to metallic gray and add those red stripes on top of the top wings then pretty much you gonna have a Ro-43. It was mostly a ship-based plane but there was a squadron or two on Rhodes acting independently. We can also add the random groups whenver the Taskforce is on patrol.
Unfortunately my graphic skills are too close to 0 to even attempt the change :(
Another thing
Right now I get a patrol zone and once it's done I am told to do what I want or return to base. That's strange. I should have a sequence, 5 days one place, 5 day another. Also historically tied misions should be in there, like when the French surrendered, there should be more patrols around France and French Africa and Syria and Palestine, then when the Greek cruiser went down, should be more patrols around Greece and Italian aslands etc.

Good idea with the Ro-43. I'll see what can be done about it.
As per the patrol zones: once you finish your first patrol orders you should send a situation report and then you should be ordered another patrol zone. The thing is that after this second set of orders they always send you back to base. I don't know why, if you have enough fuel and torpedoes, you don't get a third patrol area, but I always get two of them for sure.
Knowing that, for the moment, Malta subs only get assigned missions in the Central Mediterranean (between Crete and the Sicily Channel), the Alexandria flotilla subs in the East (long-ranged T-Class also in the Center) and the Gibraltar flotilla boats to the west of the Sicily Channel. I know it is not 100% satisfactory, and I will probably change this in the future by rearranging the objectives.
The Aegean waters are open to British subs in Alexandria after the German invasion of the Balkans (except the Dodecanese Islands, which are available as a patrol zone from the very beginning), and Syrian waters only when Op. Exporter is on (June-July 1941).
I wasn't exactly sure what was the British behaviour against Vichy French units in the time frame between Mers-el-Kebir and the invasion of Southern France by the Germans. In game they are considered enemies, and can be sunk if found, but I hadn't added a proper patrol area in Southern France (I did a few days ago, after finding evidence that indeed there were) or North African waters. It wouldn't be hard to add patrol areas for Oran, Algiers and Tunis.

Strasbourg is suposed to depart Mers-el-Kebir for Toulon escorted by destroyers in the evening of July 3rd 1940, after the British attack as historically. Then she can make brief random sorties out of Toulon along the French coast.
One problem is that the French destroyers that came with WDAD didn't work. I once found one of them being pushed by the merchant she was suposed to escort :haha:. In the next version there will be a SH3 Bourrasque class destroyer created by Jack_410 instead. She will also be used as Italian escort after the Toulon 1942 scuttling.
I just added a few twists to the Strasbourg "voyage" to Toulon, so it is a bit harder to know which route she will take, and also added the Dunkerque, which moved to the main French base in Feb. 1942 (don't know the exact date).

Dunkerque was refloated on Feb 20, 1942.
I also added a SM79T as a torpedo plane, and added a few random groups mostly out of Sicily. I can send it to you if you can rework the torpedo texture - it's kind of white for some reason even though the color in S3D is grey.

Also I am more happy now with TMO visuals, at least if you're not careful you'll suffer in calm waters. I'd suggest adding 3-4 MAS boats to each ASW group operating around ports - which is historically correct.

I just made two quick patrols out of Malta in a U-Class. I got my orders assigned: patrol central Med. Spent the 5 days in my patrol area and when the patrol was considered completed, I sent the report status. The result in both of them is a message indicating a new area:

If it doesn't work for you, I can only think of one reason: you're running low of fuel or torpedoes. You need to have 35% of fuel or 25% of torpedoes left to get sent to another area. I'm not sure if you need to fulfill both not to be recalled back to base.
Alternatively, maybe you're still using version 1.0 of the campaign, which didn't have this implemented. You should then download the new version in the first post of this thread.
I start from Alexandria, I was sent to Central Med, Taranto and Adriatic. Each time I was told good job! do what you want. The only thing I did I changed the dates on all African patrols to a later date.

Regarding the lack of proficiency of Sparvieros, I just found that in WDAD the visual sensor was that of a single-seater fighter. I just changed it to a bomber, and hopefully will have a better sight from now on.
I also did a bad conversion of the Pete into a Ro.43.

Yes, editing the roster would make only those two boats eligible, but still you would have a crew with British names.
There are a couple of extra files that possibly would allow you to fix this (This is something I'm not 100% sure, as I didn't tinker with it up to now). They're in ..\Data\UPCData\UPCCrewData\, and can be easily edited with the notepad: CrewMembersNames.upc and CrewMembers.upc.

I have never seen such a modified version till now. All Spica T-boats passing my way are without this paintig. How do I get the cameo or isn't it just in the actual release version?
Also deleted one stack from the German Torpedoboat to resemble a Spica Class TB, and gave her a more Italian look:

It should appear by mid 1941. This is the textures part of the roster entry for the Spicas (in ..Data\Roster\Italian\Sea\)

That includes all major ocean-going freighters and fleet tankers. In fact, most of them were either scuttled or requisitioned by the US and other countries in 1941 and on (even a country like Venezuela did this). So, a tanker in the Mediterranean should be a rare sight. Most fuel was transported to North Africa in drums, occasionally in tankers, but fairly small ones.

In fact, most of them were either scuttled or requisitioned by the US and other countries in 1941 and on (even a country like Venezuela did this). So, a tanker in the Mediterranean should be a rare sight. Most fuel was transported to North Africa in drums, occasionally in tankers, but fairly small ones.
Well, they lost part of their merchant fleet, but they also could use German ships that were interned in Italian ports, and I guess that they also grabbed Yugoslavian and Greek ships after the 1941 invasion.
With regard to tankers, I'm thinking about revamping the current traffic, pulling them out of ordinary convoys and leaving only the all-tanker convoys. There is two of them by now, one route being Napoli-Tripoli-Tarento, and the other one Brindisi-Tripoli-Napoli, both with a 33% spawn rate every 10 days and a maximum of three tankers.
I guess that before Rommel's arrival the requirements for fuel would be far less than later on, so I could reduce the frequency previous to February-March 1941, and make these convoys more frequent after that date.
The main problem I have is that there is very little info about Italian convoys in the net. I got some info about single convoys checking the Italian wikipedia (not yet implemented), but little more. There is a two-volume Italian official history about that, "La Difesa del Traffico con l'Africa Settentrionale" but it's been impossible for me to find them at a reasonable price, and most of my budget has already gone in books about the British submarines.

I assume those contacts that appear are not only from ULTRA, but also from another subs in the Med and patrol airplanes in Malta, Alexandria and Gibraltar. I'll leave it as it is by now, probably I'll make it extensive to all convoys, reducing the % chance in general. If I ever implement the convoys layers splitted by years, the % of 1940 would be lower than in 1942, for instance.

Sorry to have to say this, but for some strange reason, I get a CTD with this mod installed. I get as far as 70% of the loading screen (very nice by the way!) then a black screen with the usual win7 notification that an error has occured and that windows will attempt to resolve it. This has happened consistently over a dozen times now.
Been playing SH4 since it came out, and more usually have installed RFB with RSRD. I upgraded my pc to something very fast, now running stable at 4.01Ghz, and did a clean install of SH4 to put on WDAD, patch, and BMC.
I've checked all permissions on the game, and also my security software, and none are interfering. All mods are installed as per requirement with JSGME, and in the correct order.
As a test, the game as stock (1.5) runs perfectly. The game with just WDAD and patch, runs perfectly, but when I add BMC, the above happens (sniff..:wah:).
Anyone with any ideas as to what could be wrong, help please!!
PS: The game is installed on a clean 1TB drive, as is my copy of SH5 (on another clean drive).SH5 is modded and runs very smoothly, so pc power and config doesn't seem to be a culprit..

Is that in the SH4 loading screen or when the mission is loading after being in the Office?
If it is the former, I'm sorry to tell you that I have no idea. I have Windows XP and it always worked fine in my computer.
If it is the latter, what patrol zone were you assigned?. I found a bug in one of the patrol zones (I think it was Southern Adriatic) a while ago. It will be solved in the next version. Start a new career and probably you will get a different area.

You could try checking the JGSME, forget the name Mod folder in game install where have the mod..sometimes when unzipping mods get an extra directory level which can cause problems ie the Med Campaign mod might be in a directory called Med Campaign etc?? Though if getting load screen maybe not.
If with save game I had problems with save games crashing if had space in the the name on 64bit Win7 machine. Loading the museum will also crash the game due to the number of ships added I believe.

I've been wanting to reply for the last 4 days, but couldn't due to a problem with my email changeover (new service provider necessitated change, so I went with a free address with live.co.uk). Only when I tried swapping it for my old one, then back again, did it work. Until then I've been unable to post or even check my own profile.. Never mind, all sorted now..
Right! My problem with CTD's on the loading screen were of my own making.
To cure it, I completely uninstalled the whole game (drastic, I know!), with the help of Revo Uninstaller, to get every last bit off the hard drive and registry.
I then reinstalled the game, rebooted, installed the 1.4 patch, rebooted, installed the U-boat add on to bring it to 1.5, rebooted, WDAD, rebooted, WDAD patch, rebooted, and finally, the BMC, rebooted.
Held my breath, started the game, and... PERFECT!!
This has been worth waiting for, it plays very very well. Hats off to all that have had a hand in developing this in their own time, I am so very grateful, as I am to all that offered suggestions to my problems.

On my first mission in the campaign I was
told to go and sink ships around Sicily
I was half way there when it was reported
that a sub was spotted so I lined everything
up and fired 2 torpedoes it was a dark night
so I could not see where they went

Not necessarily the same problem, but I haven't had any crashes in my computer while developing and testing for a long time, and while I don't discard that some random situation might lead to a crash, this would mostly be loading the mission or inside the game, not while the initial loading.
Remember that 2.5, as was 2.0, is a standalone version. If you had any of the previous versions you have to remove it before installing the new one.

These last days I've been toying with a couple of things.
First, the British torpedoes will have no gyroangle: torpedoes will only fire in a straight line, making it harder to achieve impacts. That didn't take me long to change :D.
The second is a set of missions for Harpoon (June 42) and Pedestal (August 42). Specially in Op.Pedestal, British submarines had important tasks assigned.
And lastly, I learnt to rework the damage models for some of the new warships (thanks to S3D and skwasjer for such a great program).

It`s possible it could be a WWII refit of the Caledon class, witch sub-class it is, is another story. Your guess is as good as mine.

As Karle94 says it looks to me like an british C-Class cruiser.
A class of light cruisers mostly built during WWI. Some units were modernized in the 1930s. The Caledon, Ceres and Carlisle sub-classes were still in service during WWII, also in the Mediterranean.

Since it has five six inch guns it has to be the C class. If it had six six inch guns, the extra behind the forward funnel then it would have had to be the Danae class. Same ship with the extra turret, and 6 meters longer.

Yes, that's it.
It was a class of three cruisers that were a development of the Emerald-Class. One of my grandfathers spent most of the Spanish Civil War aboard the Almirante Cervera.

Ooops, seems like this stopwatches were meant for earlier versions of the game.
To use them with SH4 v1.5 you have to change the path of the file clock.dds from ..\Data\Menu\Gui to ..\Data\Menu\Skins\American\Gui

Second, when I use time compression and met any contact, my crew report it but too late to do anything else then crash dive. Last time the time compression was stopped few second before the Italian DD opened the fire against me(she was on half way between the horizont line and my sub!?). Is there any settings I can change to stop the time compression as soon as there is smoke on horizont visible?

I think that SH4 does not allow for different optics depending on the submarine, so I used data found for the T-Class in both playable subs. The periscope should work the same: the Observation or Search periscope has magnification powers of 1.5x and 6x, while the Attack periscope is only 1.5x. I'm not sure if SH4 really makes the Attack periscope harder to detect than the Search one, as it should be, but the zooms were like this in the British subs, according to a book about the T-Class that I read a while ago.
I checked the U-class and the search periscope worked as intended, just like I described before.

A while ago dyshman (post #103 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1676666&postcount=103)) said he was working in some early British subs (Odin, Parthian and Rainbow classes). Haven't heard/read from him since. If he finishes the project, they can be easily added to the campaign.
Then Keltos was working in a new T-Class boat based in an amazing 3D model by JU88. I think he is quite busy for the moment with other stuff.
So, by now, I'm afraid all that there is for the British subs is WDAD and the Med Campaign.
What do you mean by Torpedo loadout mods?. Extra torpedoes? Different ones? For the moment, the only planned change to the British torpedoes is eliminating the gyroangle.

Yeah just a the option (or Mod) so that you can change torps. Whatever the other mods (ie WDAD or RFB etc..) so that you can load up german torps / american or modern...

I don't think there is anything like that.
I have never tried to do anything like this, but with a quick look I think that the torpedo loadouts are located in the UPC file of each submarine folder. This is the first tube of a T-Class boat

I hadn't had time to work on the model of late due to RL but I plan to immerse myself again in SH4.
