Hi everyone,

As some of you are aware, I'm fairly new. However, I've already started playing the campaign and have sunk one merchant! :woot:

I downloaded and installed GWX-3, and for the most part, I'm very pleased with the work and changes. Good job guys

There is the JSGME mod enabler included, but it includes just a small list of changes compared to the whole mod package. There are some things that the mod changed that I would rather have left alone. For example, I'm not sure I like the extra chronometer that appears in all views (I can move it away, but it simply returns the next time I load the game). I also prefer the original 6x magnification for the attack periscope optics, rather than the modded 10x (which, as I understand, was done to make things easier to see, not because this value is historically accurate).

So, what should I change to revert some features back to the default state that aren't necessarily part of the JSGME mod activator list?

welcome to the wonderful world of SH3modification:woot: It will be your new obssesion, ask me how I know;)

the more you learn about the various files and what they do, the more you will start to do your own mods to the mods. Graphics tweaks are the easiest, nexts comes data editing with S3D editor by skywasser, after that it gets more serious and some guys work with code and the .dlls of the game. As long as you save your original data or use JGSME you should be good.

There are severa UI packages which can be used with GXW. I use the simfeeling slide out dials mod with GWX and have had no problems. Do a search

Do you mean that big FREAKING thing that pops out just above the lower right of your screen if you so much as look at that area?
:haha:

And does it look like this?

No, That's the compass/direction selection object (annoyingly big, but useful for precise selection of heading).

What I mean is the chronometer with the wooden frame that has its default position at the top of the screen.

Thanks Brett. I did get an SH3 editor tool that allows one to explore various files such as the .dat types. However, I have no clue what I'm looking at to be honest. I also don't know where to find the data that I want to change.

I'll look into those GUI changes. I like the appearance of some that Frontier is using on his youtube "Let's play". Are you saying that downloading some of those will remove the clock thingy? Or the magnification?

I think he means the backup stopwatch in the wooden housing. I find it very handy, since in real life they didn't keep looking through the periscope, but counted the seconds with exactly that timepiece.

It can be removed, but obviously I wouldn't know how. Someone will be along soon who does.

[edit] Just too late, I see. :D

Luno,

go here:

\data\Menu\Gui\Chronometer.tga

thats your file, delete that and report back, it may work or it may screw something else up:woot:

I thought it was annying at first too, but you come to just ignore it. It's out of the way when you start, and if it's not, just slide it off screen. I mean, with 10-15 minute load times, you probably aren't having it fall in your face that often.

But if you really want it gone, I know others have figured it out.

Doesn't that also delete the one built into the periscope?

If you don't like certain aspects of the interface, I highly recommend OLC 'Gold' MkIId.

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=147667

It applies straight over the top of GWX. I feel it's cleaner and more involving. Perfect, if you want fully manual targetting.

If you decide to try it, watch the excellent video tutorials first.

Better safe than sorry, so you may want to 'backup' the file prior to deletion - just in case...

Thanks everyone. I will try it and report back ASAP.
