.*.I've just started a new career cause my save got wiped. So I'm patroling around Wake trying to intercept the invasion force 0n the 28th when i contact the enemy Task Force steaming south toward the Marshals, persumably job done. I'm shadowing a Task Force of three of the four stack light cruisers, one cruiser auxillary, two freighters, four destroyers and around four subchasers. I shadow at around 10,000 yards when the group turn toward me. I see signal lamps flashing so I dive, the enemy course will give me a solution, I believe. Three of the subchasers, with searchlights beaming converge on my last surface position and begin a blind depth charge attack. As I close in on the freighters, which I have been ordered to engage after reporting the convoy I see that one of the subchasers has blown up and is sinking. I assume that he has run over another boats pattern. He sinks and I get no credit nor does it appear on the skippers log..I'm wondering if anyone knows wheather subchasers have asdic, as there is no pinging or if anyone has seen a collision or another friendly fire incident. Fired 2 @ Freighter#1...Fired 1 @ Submarinetender/Light Cruiser...Fired 1 @Freighter#2...On hydrophone 1 dud, 1 miss, two hits, results not observed due to heavy escort presence. No ships sunk. I believe that the depth charges on the Corvette's stern may have been a sympathic detonation due to its close proximity to the other Corvette's pattern...In reality would the skipper be able to claim the sinking of a ship in those circumstances?

Panic and unexperenced crew on there part? i believe that the DDE's had proper Sonar sets.

Closing in on a convoy off the east coast of Celebes, two Carriers W three DD's on the port side of the convoy, Two on the Starboard side, One in front and rear. Multiple cruisers and some freightors or tankers. On approach, see a ship onfire from periscope (as it's still dark, easy to see) and a ship sunk icon (grey) appears. They evidently lost one of their DD's on a Zig. Too bad...Tooo Bad...
Oh well, that's one less for me to worry about...
Good Hunting.

Yes, PS: There are going to be many times where you will see ships colliding (friendly as well), I've also seen a friendly merchant get bombed by a betty and there was nothing I could do to help, and a lot of IJN DD's that seem to have bad accidents. As mentioned above, no credit. The only time you get credit is from a direct action on your part.

AFAIK, you'll only get credit if a ship sinks as a result of your action. If a ship sinks for any other reason (storm, collision, fratricide, scuttling, etc.) you don't get credit.

:sign_yeah:
That's right. Even if you mod your sub to go 200 knots per hour and make it have enough armor to take the collision of ramming with that speed (like I did....) you won't get the credit of the kill. Though if you ram without modding and manage to sink anything you'll get the credit.. I don't know how it's measured when I sink it or when it sinks itself..

Dogfish, I attacked a convoy in an earlier life/career (can't remember where I was or when) and in the ensuing melee, when everyone was dashing here and there trying to get away, I saw a Nagata Maru crush an escort by running dead into it amidships! The DD was on its side being shoved sideways, and the freighter looked like an angry dog with a big bone in its mouth. The DD eventually rolled under the Nagata and sank, while the Nagata went on its merry way! I LOVE this game!!!:har:
