View Full Version : Converted SH5 ships
Hi folks,
thanks to the great work of "privateer" - his famous "GR2-Exporter-Tool" - it is possible to export some ships from SH5 to SH3l. I've had a deep look at those ships in SH5 - sad to say that they were mostly not as correct as you want to have.
In the next days - when Yamatoforever's Server is on dutiy - you can download some of the best ships of SH5. As there are:
Light Cruiser "Emden"

Last but not least a merchant ship - a medium tanker of 3,100 GRT. Above the "waterline". this ship looks good, But don't look below:

It was made as a 2-propeller-ship; but the engine is far away from the propellers. I'm not an engineer - but that looks realy funny :haha:

That takes some time time untill it will run stable. It is a combination of the "yards" you know. You will find it in the "red banner" on the left side.

I do not have SH5 so I can not say for sure, but according to these photos Ark Royal does not have same 3d model like Illustrious.

I have SH5 - and sometimes i'm playing it :oops:. But there is no uniqui model of HMS Ark Royal inside SH5. Otherwise i would have converted it to SH3 :haha:.

The 1.2 patch also released the QM found in the r2.rw file.
(You can see what is in a .rw file by renameing to .zip!)

Are you planning to release the ships also separately for those who do not want to add all the ships? Or maybe just a list with which files from the library folder are required for which ships? I'm thinking especially about the Flower-Corvette which is a nice add-on for many mods without requiring any campaign files.

no, there will not be a seperate download of these ships. For the "Flower Corvette" and the "NOM Ranger", you do not need any file from the folder "Library".
For all other four ships it is better to install all files from the folder "Library".

unfortunately I do not speak English. write "Read me" is a real headache for me. But all the units converted by me from sh5 I used privateers "GR2-Extractor" and thanks him for it.
Also I used Fulmar (converted by "Rovi") correcting zon-file

I also understand his problem with doing 'readme' inclusions.

Yes, exactly. Very hard time with writing (reading of the text is not a problem for me). But after I wrote something I always doubt that wrote it correctly. so I would be glad if someone would write "Read me" for me (instead of me ?)

Hmmm... It is very strange. Are You talking about Ark Royal ? I sunk it by two torpedos in original version SH3. But GWX (and others modes) uses a different Zone.cfg. I think it is only reason

The zone.cfg in GWX should not cause that much difference.
Failure to show damage textures is a .val issue.
You need to list all mods installed.

The 2nd and 3rd mod don't change values for the Ark Royal and WB's mod uses same data for the Ark Royal as kovall.
Maybe that GWX entries are different than sh3 vanilla version and I think that Debris mod could cause a problem too.
But I see no reason for missing damage textures. What I found is that there are no '2DCompartments' entries in the NCV_Ark_Royal.cfg. Any other sea unit has these entries.
I can live with missing textures but I want to SINK her. Any ideas for this problem?

The zone.cfg in GWX should not cause that much difference.

I just once tried to sink Ark Royal again. After being hit by two torpedoes, the ship was a strong bank and sank 10 minutes later and texture had traces of contact with torpedoes . But I noticed strange thing... when the ship beginning to sink, the upper half of the board have a darker color than the lower and on the dark side was not "caustic"
What is the reason ? I guess need to change values in dat-file into Caustics render controller. ScaleY and OffsetY. Is it true my guess ?

Now I'm totally confused.:hmmm: After 3 times of loading my savegame to find her (I want to kill her in a campaign) I hit her with 2 torpedoes from starbord side at 4m depth and she went down 20 minutes later. And... I recognized damage textures as well as lifeboats after sinking. But why?
Suggestions:
1. First time I attacked the CV, torpedo depth was 7m under waterline, but if you look on your model submerged the Ark Royal looks more like a Destroyer than a Fleet Carrier. Draft isn't 9.65m as listed in the cfg-file, I think your model has only a draft of 4m from waterline to keel. That would explain why I could'nt see any damages first time I shot her (remember: I hit her with 3 torpedoes).
In heavy seas the Ark Royal is flying over the ocean, that means that all 3 propellers are over the waterline, looks funny, but may be a problem when you want to attack her. Another reason to change the draft of your model.
2. The first attack I started from portside with no damage on the ship, the 2nd attack I started from starboard, perhaps this has an effect on the damages, but I don't think so.

Hi all,
the models draft is about 8.5 m - in the CFG file there is a draft of 9.65 m. The best way is to fix the draft (surfaced) in the SIM file (see UnitShip - Hydro) at 8,5 m. The ship will keep that draft under all conditions.

I don not know who made new damage for Ark Royal. In my version has no such problems, and the draft of ship is wright (9,7m) The only bag that I found In dat-file I incorrect wrote value Caustic Render Controller.
Correct value ScaleY= -0,15 (instead -0,6)
This step will eliminates the problem of different hull colors at the time of the sinking ship.

I just checked your pictures. What I see is the ship's lower part (red texture) fully submerged, which means it is where is has to be ...
This part, according to the 3D model (measures taken in Wings3D) is 8.5 m deep. That is the ship's original full load draught. If the model is sent to that depth in the sim file, it won't fly anymore ...
The value in the cfg file should be ammended as rowi suggested.
Your impression that the ship is not deep enough in the water results probably from the fact that the Ark Royal was rather tall, which was not favourable in terms of sea worthiness (and contributed to her loss).
I tested kovall's model; torpedo impacts were clearly visible, with torps set on impact as well as on magnetic ignition.

Thank you for the download link.:up: I hope I made no mistakes when editing the sim-file (never did before). I tried following settings:

Hope that it's all right and ship will be a bit deeper in water now.
Do I have to edit the cfg-file too?
Your further explanations of terms of sea worthiness of the Ark Royal helped a lot to understand the circumstances of her sinking near Gibraltar.

And at least, I was able to sink the Ark Royal, so everything is o.k.

Good to see Ark Royal in the game. The only thing is the terrible skin for the SH5 ships. I saw one picture with an other skin, hull and flight deck in a different style, but I don't remember who posted it in the forum :hmmm:. Anyone an idea? Maybe the creator of this skin, whoever it was, is so kind to upload it (please).

yes, the you fixed the draught corrrectly
correction of the draught/draft in den NCV_Ark_Royal.cfg can be done with a text editor
same can be done with the log file, so you see the right number in the museum, too

guess you've see pictures of a slightly modified version of Kovall's Ark Royal somewhere in the German Ubi forum ... I did same changes to the textures and rowi58 some to the model ... but those are private editings.

das UBI-Forum habe ich durchgeflöht - ohne Erfolg. Ich habe auch schon versucht, die Texturen zu ändern, bei den SH5-Skins habe ich aber speziell mit dem Flugdeck und den Aufbauten keine Ahnung, wo sich die jeweilige Stelle befindet, um nur dem Flugdeck oder der Brücke einen neuen Skin zu verpassen :damn:. Die Macher in Rumänien haben es sich da leider einfach gemacht, das war bei den Vorgängern um Längen besser (wie alles andere auch).
Ich wäre ja schon zufrieden, wenn ich wüsste, wie die tga ausschaut, um mir selbst einen Skin zu basteln...

It is nice to hear that some user dont respect the graet work of those modders like "privater", "Kovall" and "myself"
I do not want to criticise the way you're playing SH3 - everyone can do it in an individual matter.
But i get a little bit confused about your statement of the work modders did. Perhaps - i think so - it is a mistake of translation from Greek to English.
Would be nicde if you could confirm this. Or not, or else, or wtfmb.

But i must say, that since the good old tiimes of GWX 1.0, when everyone respect the work of the modders - as Kpt Lehman and all of the entire GWX crew did - and you do it with all your work, - that 's it.
As you does it allways, i want do give credits to all the great contributers to SH3. Sometimeds we do not recognize them as they are hidden in a kind of invisibly.

I really, really, really don't want to go back to the blinding, OMG MY EYES searchlights I had before getting OLC's mod. Does the Search_Lights.dat included here make any similar adjustment to the searchlight beams, or if not, is there some way to alter some of the settings using's OLC's file as a reference? I've tried comparing the two files, and I know where OLC's file differs from the unmodded GWX version... but the nodes or whatever you call 'em in this new version don't exactly match up line by line so it's not like I can just go in and find the same bits and put in OLC's values, even if that would work.
So...er... HALP!?!?! :D

The SearchLights of these converted ships are Stock-SH3 SearchLights (or modified objects of them - by gerome_73).

its no use since they are not playble:/ i dont need them...if you want playable ships, get Chinese U-47's Warship mod. i like these ships, coz i can have some fun making .mis files with them in and watching them fight to the death! You don't like 'em? then GTFO. Learn some respect.

I just downloaded the mod. Looks great from the screenshots... but I am somewhat picky.
How can I install only the Flower-class corvette? It's the main file I was looking for, as the Flower class I'm used to seeing doesn't really look like the pictures I have... Could you please help me out?

So I can enable it after SH5 Ships, even though it completely overwrites your Search_Lights.dat? OLC's version of that file just alters a few of the values in the GWX version, but yours contains a bunch of completely different entries, and more of them IIRC, so I'm not sure what in your file corresponds to the entries in the other versions.
I'd have to go back and check but I think the only differences I found between the GWX file and OLC's were in one embedded image (which is the same in your file as in GWX) and in the values for all the 'BEAM' entries.
So I'm wondering if I just switch in his version of the embedded image and try to adjust all the 'BEAM' entries in your file, if that would work. :hmmm:
You are right, Frau Kaleun,
there are some more objects in my SearchLights.dat. But if you are using GWX 3.0, you don't need these additional objects (some tunable directors and a small optical "Richtsäule" i've made for my CCoM and LSH3 some times ago).
Just try it - i'm sure you will get the results you want.

- delete all folders in "data/Sea" except "NCO_FlowerMOD"
- delete all folders in "data/Roster" except "British/Sea"
- within the folder "data/Roster/British/Sea" delete all files except "COFlowerMOD.cfg"
The other fiiles won't disturb your SH3 installation.

You are right, Frau Kaleun,
there are some more objects in my SearchLights.dat. But if you are using GWX 3.0, you don't need these additional objects (some tunable directors and a small optical "Richtsäule" i've made for my CCoM and LSH3 some times ago).
Just try it - i'm sure you will get the results you want.
So the GWX version of the file, with a few values altered by OLC, but still all the same entries and nodes and whatnot, will do fine? Awesome. :yeah:
EDIT: Okay, I don't know if I'm doing this right or not.
In the eqp files for the SH5 ships, these are the LinkNames that appear in the entries with NodeName=L0x:
LinkName=REF_big
LinkName=Optic
LinkName=REF_small
LinkName=REF_small01
When I open the OLC Searchlight's version of Search_Lights.dat in S3ditor, and use the filter thingy just to look at all the nodes in it, I find one for each of those except for Optic. I have no idea what node in the file would correspond to that, provided I'm even looking at the right stuff. :06:

Hi, the OLC searchlight file does not contain the "optic" item (which is a kind of a small rangefinder); the little thing has been done by Rowi58 and one can find it, e.g., in the searchlight file of LSH5. When using other searchlight library files, just replace the "optic" by "NULL" in the eqp file ...

Thanks for the info, I'm actually working on adding it to OLC's SearchLights.dat, to see how that goes. If it's a problem (or I've just done a shoddy job of it) I'll try the "NULL" edit instead. :DL

Hi WTCC,
you can download this mod from my MediaFire site (http://www.mediafire.com/download/5fs1hn5rn2o94n1/SH5-Ships_V2.7z) too. But you must have 7z (http://www.7-zip.org/download.html) to unpack this archive - or any other programm that is able to read and unpack 7z files.
