View Full Version : Affect of saved modded games

I've started playing around with some simple text modding with otherwise stock 1.4 in an attempt to fix the 1945 dual deck guns' issues and have been following the tutorial by Mush Martin.

This has lead me to wonder what effect games saved with various mods would have on my career.

For example, I followed said tutorial and made a few option changes including a Gato available from 1941. To test it, I started a career, verified the sub then exited, with the game making an 'in base' auto save.

I then disabled that mod but still had a game saved with a sub that really isn't even available.

Being quite naive this bothered me some so I deleted the saved game. (I just wasn't game to load it and find out for myself!)

Am I being paranoid, or can this sorta thing create problems, I have been playing this career for the best part of a couple of years now and really don't want to loose it.

a game saved with mods will give you a CTD if you load it without them or after the mods are removed because the game cant find what its looking for and crashes as a result.

in a few special cases the mod may have made minor enough or unrelated changes (such as changing what already existed so the game CAN find what its looking for) so the game works but when you get to a spot where the missing content is it will crash.

as a rule expect a CTD if a save game is used unless all mods being used at the time of the save are installed first AND installed in the exact same order as they were when the game was saved is also usually required

Cheers Webster, that makes me feel not so paranoid afterall, :salute:

So it would seem it's O.K. to retain saves from deactivated mods within a career, as long as you don't open them (without first reinstalling said mods) again?

I.E.: Can I run a mod for a couple of patrols, deactivate the mod and continue on with the career without needing to worry?

you should be able to do that just fine as long as you make sure you have a "hard" save (manual save not done by auto or quick save) prior to activating the mods and those mods are removed before attempting to use this pre newly added mods save

just be sure you keep things situated and you can always return to your starting point. (dont trust your memmory, create a text file and write down your mod list, install order, and new mods added and there install order)

but a word of caution, some mods will only work if installed while you are in port, in these cases it is usually clearly stated so read the install info.

as a rule, when doing what you are talking about, just for peace of mind that things will work trouble free, i would return to port before doing it reguardless of any mod instructions that it may not be required.

better safe then :damn: trying to find why some mod feature isnt working
