Hi, Kaleuns...Iīm dreaming in a mod for have snow in SH3. I think in a graphic mod replacing the "rain lines" by other snow graphic. Is it possible? I donīt know where are those "rain lines". The mod should be activated when we navigate the Artic or elsewhere we want to replace "rain" with "snow" (manually via JSGME).
Best regards.

What I remember is that my experiments to create snow by manipulating the rain-entry in scene.dat ended in failure. Auto-activating mods is also not possible.
Snow is great. Somehow I remember it was available in Sh2 (flakes only). The complexity comes when you want to see that the snow covers the ships. Something we expected in Sh5. Unfortunately it isn't possible in Sh3 as someone sure would have created it already.

But I tell about snow (as rain), not about snow skins. I think in a mod replaces the rain graphics (those lines) by snow graphics.

If you swap a rain graphic with a snow graphic all you will ever see is snow because the game engine is limited to just the one/single graphic.

I think in a graphic mod replacing manually the rain with snow. The same we make with the skins: change via JSGME. If I patrol an area of the Artic, I make the activation of the "snow mod"; when "rain" (after the instruction of weather engine in SH3), I see "snow". Of course, I donīt know how to make that:damn:

Didn't we have a thread on this before? Did somebody actually talk about how to do it, or am I imagining things?
I think it would be cool to have a little mod that you could put in using Commander - you could use the Flotilla folders and only have it enabled when you're based in Norway, for instance, or maybe use the Date folders and only enable it in the winter months if you're playing a Type II and staying in the North Sea anyway.

Exactly! But...Is it possible? Where are the graphic/command for the "rain lines"? Are they hard coded or are a simple graphic?

I tried a search for 'snow' in the forum and came up with some threads where the desire for it was mentioned, but didn't find any specific info on what files would need to be modified or how. I didn't find anything saying it was impossible, however. Here's hoping someone who does know more about it will reply. :DL

The files can be adjusted to do Snow.
Several things can't be done though.
1. It will not accumulate on Deck.
2. Unless you stay in the North? You'd get Snow everywhere! (Possible Commander solution?)
3. Who wants to support all the "It's Snowing in the Med* post because people don't read the README files?

It's a Festivus miracle, Herr Kaleun! :rotfl2:
I think the two most obvious "solutions" via Commander would be to enable snow by date range, or by flotilla. But, enabled by date, I'm pretty sure you'd have snow everywhere during that time period, as already noted. Enabled by flotilla, you'd have snow not only everywhere you went but in all seasons as well. Those might be the only two options. :hmmm:

In the Ubi-Forums I've read that Rowi thinks about replacing "summer" textures with "winter" when using a modified SH3 Commander. Maybe in the same way you replace rain drops with snow flakes according the date and the destination (PQ). According the amount of salami hanging connected to the diesel in FM's Interiour you can change the ice on the U-Boat surface, too.
For example: Arctic PQ makes snow falling. Karibbean PQ makes Rain. And instead of rain coats they watch wears heavy winter clothes. After a while in the northern sea the skins of the boat changing to some ice skins. Not too much: I read, that a short trip submerged removes the ice.
By the way, almost winter.:haha::haha:

I have variable clothes via SH Commander, by dates. There are many many files and folders, but I have winter clothes in winter, and summer clothes in summer.
Also I have the winter skin in Commander, activated by date.

Houlala....That sounds really great! Could you possibly tell how I could do the same for clothes / Time of the the year?
Merci
