In a P-3 attack run I draw a 2 mile circle arount my last MAD hit and I drop the torpedo on the edge of that 2 mile circle. The active-passive, snake-circle, bow-stern will vary with the situation.

What distance is everybody else dropping on ?
:salute:

I try to drop as close as possible to give the target as little time to react as possible. Typically well within 1,000 yards, where possible, using active circle running unless the situation forbids it.

Against an AI target, I do 1,000 yards, in front of the track and positioned to turn (right) into the front or side of the target.

Against a human target above the layer, I'll skirt around a 3nm circle firing snaking torpedoes in from multiple directions, staying out of MANPAD range. I'll do an overhead coup de grace if I can tell he's going deep.

I will normally drop a snake from astern at about 1 kyds, followed by a circle runner after I pass overhead (listen for the MAD call and drop) if I am sure he is deep. If I think he is shallow I will lob one in from 5,000 feet up, wait for it to go active then go in low for a better shot. That way he is thinking about the torpedo that just started pining and looking for me in his scope.

Thanks to all, I guess I am dropping a bit too far

I really like the "circle run" idea after a last mad hit but the sim always loves to put a civilian ship near the action

I dont think the torpedos will survive a drop from that high and I try for a 1 torp one sub ratio. I usually only carry 2
