I have done a number of patrols using the stock version of SH4-Gold Edition and am ready to try installing my first mod. I have read a number of the forums and have a good feel for how to proceed (well, stay tuned). I have down loaded the mods I want along with JSGME and 7zip. My understanding from another post was that I could install more than one copy of the game. My first installation was under Program Files in Windows 7 64. I have been advised that I should set up a folder right on my C drive to install the game if I wish to mod it. I went back and started up the CD but the Install option is not available (grayed out). I went directly to setup.exe on the disk and this ran fine but only allowed me to “repair” my current game. I can always uninstall the game and reinstall to a folder on my C drive but I really want to save the career I am in using the stock version of the game. Maybe I am just missing something, so before I uninstall I thought I would ask.

If I am going to do an uninstall and reinstall, where are my saved game files so I can preserve them.

Thanks

You do not need to use the disc, at least I have not, check out this older thread.

If I am going to do an uninstall and reinstall, where are my saved game files so I can preserve them.No need to uninstall. Just make a copy of your install and copy that for each (major) mod you intent to use. Keep away from folder ProgramFiles... and I recommend keeping it away from your systemdrive as well.

Your data/saves are in Documents\SH4, so don't forget MultiSH4 to make new mods use other names...
