The reload time is set in the Deck_Gun_GE88mm.sim file.
To edit it, you need to use the Goblin editor application (in the SH5 install directory)
To set up the Goblin Editor to be functional, read this post : http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=1328039&postcount=1
In the Goblin Editor [File Menu] >Open 'Deck_Gun_GE88mm.GR2' then [File Menu] >Merge 'Deck_Gun_GE88mm.sim' MAKE BACKUP COPIES OF BOTH THESE FILES BEFORE EDITING
both are found in : SH5installdirectory\data\Objects\Guns\
In the 'Project Tree window' you should see :-
Files
|
+Deck_Gun_88mm.GR2
- Deck_Gun_88mm.Sim
..+ StationController @ 88mm_UDeck_Gun_High
..+ wpn_Cannon @ 88mm_UDeck_Gun_High
Double click 'wpn_Cannon @ 88mm_UDeck_Gun_High' in the project tree window to bring up the 'Edit Behaviour' window.
In the Edit Behaviour window click 'wpn_Cannon' from the existing behaviours box.
In the Edit Behaviour box on the right you should see a list of properties than can be changed - reload_time is the one you want.
To be more realistic a reload time of 5-6 seconds is fairly accurate as the gunner can get faster with skill points. Fastest possible speed would be about 3.5 seconds.
When you have made a change the .sim file and its contents will turn red in the Project Tree window. Close the edit behaviour window then go to [File Menu] >Save
Job done.

@ Joseph
Yup, here you go. Probably doesn't need the GR2 file but is included anyway : http://www.filefront.com/17675381/DeckGunMod.rar
Enjoy :03:
What would really be nice is to get rid of that green bar that goes to the target and have a way to set the range like in SHIII. Plus a way for the range to show somewhere for the deck gun and TDC. I haven't found range to target anywhere in SH5.

Are you using any UIs mod? If not then yes, you won't find a TDC range to target dial anywhere in the stock game.

You are welcome, Josef (spelled your name right that time  )
Happy hunting,

:D
DW, yes I have them installed. But... I don't have TDC or range. Still the stock SH5 crap.
I guess once I get back to base I'll have to uninstall my mods and reinstall them. They were all put in before I started but for whatever reason they didn't show up. Maybe I caused a conflict somewhere with another mod and that's the reason.

I don't know if it is stock UI but up in the top left cornenr of the deck gun UI there is a button, to the left of the ammo selection. If you click that button you will be zoomed in a little bit and be looking thru a gun sight that has range graduations and all alot like SH3. If it isn't in the game normaly it is part of TDW UI mod.
As for killing the green line when you are using the deck gun, there is an option to do that in the realisum setings for the game.
Yeah I saw that in realism but was hoping I'd have a way for Range not using it. I'll check out that button in the top left corner of the deck gun UI with the Ammo selection. Thanks Dis.
This mod seems to be so far the only mod (that i know of) that reduces the overpowered deck gun, I have to try this, thanks! Just followed troop transportship in the middle of the night in a huge storm, and still managed to sink her with the deck gun! And it was pretty easy too!
I think the deck gun crew acts somewhat realisticlly, but you can still use it yourself even if the sub is practically diving. It would be great to have this somehow corrected also!
Oh, and the manual warned not to man the guns in a storm because theycould be washed away :haha: Yeah right!

This stock deck gun IMO is too fast. If I remember in the main thread TDW (Mulitple UI). Thank you very much for this:yeah: Going to check out this gun;)

:-?Sorry if I leave the thread, although it is an addition to the realism of the deck gun, this is the sound of cannon firing, there is an excellent mod installed, the name is M1 Thompson's Realism sound mod v.1.0, it is a file named cannon.wav . but the install is still operating the original game.
:hmmm:Anyone know why this happens?
:DLI appreciate any help I can give ...
:up:Greetings
It's an old thread, I know, but the deck gun still sucks! And by that I mean in a twisted way that it is too powerful. You can man it and use it in a storm and the bouncing of the sub doesn't affect it's aiming, it is somehow balanced and fixed to horizon. When you compare viewing throug UZO and deck gun in a storm, you notice the difference. Current deck gun strenght is probably the most unrealistic factor in SH 5 and needs to be fixed.
Please could somebody look into this, I tried but got nowhere. In previous SH games this was handled with stormconditions parameter in the cfg-file: StormConditions=9,0.4;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]. Sadly this doesn't work in SH 5. No effect what so ever.
Now the only time that the crew abandons the deck gun is when the warning icon "submerged" flashes for a second in a storm. This is not enough and only happens rarely.
If I'm correct, TDW made the zoom binocular view to deck gun (thanks for that :DL) so could it be possible that the bouncing effect could be implemented in the deck gun view also? TDW? It would make the aiming more challengin and almost impossible in rough seas.
Ofcourse some will say that just don't use the guns in a storm, but that's not good for me. I'm a weak minded person and do what ever is possible to sink the ships. I need restrictions!
