And does anyone have the path for SH4?
Is it
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\SilentHunter4
?
I don't have it installed.
But I have the 4 Gig patch ready to build for SH4.exe

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific
That's for XP. For Vista or 7 I can't help.

Thank you Steve.
There's a browse button for installs to other folders.
That's for multi installs, and Vista, Windows 7 installs.
:yep:

What are the system requirements to be able to make best use of this please:06: Sorry if this is a 'thicko' question:oops:
And now the idiot's question ... :88)
I know WinXP (32bit) will not see 4GB or more of RAM, even if I have them installed, but ... using this patch wil the game benefit from those 4GB or more??? Or is it still limited to what Windows XP can see & use???

@Hitman
The original 4gb patch only addressed 64 bit systems. Not sure about privateer's version. It not so much makes the OS see all your installed ram, rather it makes the .exe use more than it normally would (can't remember how much that is sorry), hope this answers your question.
EDIT: I actually found some quite useful info about this and the 3 GB patch some time back, read my post here;

The 4 Gig versions I did addresses the
'Can We host it at SubSim'
issue.
Since they target the SH3.exe files?
I'd say We are safe.
The way it's done is so old school that who could complain?
The only reason I didn't do this before is that I never had more then 2 Gig!
I am known as one to not explain things to a great extent.
So Thanks to Fubar2Niner for helping you Guys out.

Okay I just installed SH3v1.4 + GWX3 on my rig again since updating to Win7 64-bit. If I'm understanding how this 4GB patch works, I just run the appropriate .exe file from the download, and point it to the game folder with the .exe I want to patch, and it does everything? Cuz that's what I did. :D
I'm just wondering if there's any way to tell (by looking at the game files) whether or not it "took" - does it create a backup of the original sh3.exe file and store it somewhere?

It does not make a backup.
You should already have a clean backup of SH3 anyway, right?

Oh, absolutely. I run my SH3 setup.exe and install it to an "Original" folder and then copy the game folder into other directories for playable and "test" installations.
I did get the "succesfully patched" message at the end of the process tho' so I guess it all went okay. I suppose I'll notice the difference when I start installing mods and playing. :yeah:

I use LAA (Large Address Aware) to patch any .exe and get any info

YES....it will backup the original sh3.exe
At least this version does:
http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
(e.g.: "4gb_patch file.exe"). It automatically creates a backup copy of the original executable.

I used Privateer's patch from the link in the first post, and according to him it doesn't.
You know how it goes, if you opt for the "off brand" merchandise you have to make do without a few features. :O:

Oh, I know - not really worried about a backup file anyway.
And now that I've had some time to play...
https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/rhornick/shared/ars/cheeto_full_of_stars.jpg
My God... it's full of RAM!
Just started a test career with the following all enabled:
GWX 3 Wilhemshafen,St Naz,Schluese and xtra ships V6
Extras for the Wilhelmshaven campaign v2.4c
TMT v2 + ThomsensShips V4.2
Add TMT ThomsonsShips fix
LifeBoats&Debris_v4 [Modified]
FM_NewInterior_V1.0 with GWX Int Orders
Wac Animated Sub Pens interior start for GWX
Aces' Combined SH3.SDL Files v2
It loaded faster than the setup I was playing before the 64-bit upgrade and 4gig patch! :woot::yeah:
Still have the same issue with the sound from FM New Interiors that I did before, though... sound inside the boat is just insane, at least when I'm standing in the control room or looking at the navmap. When I switch views from outside to inside I don't get engine noise, I just get a huge indistinct something that sounds more like a giant mortar round is about to drop right down the tower hatch.
I remember when I played this mod before I ended up leaving out the .sdl file completely because I got terrible stuttering in the interior sound at anything over 2 TC but nothing like this... will have to do some searching and tinkering to see if there's anything that can be done to fix it.

Welcome to the world of 64bit :DL
Thank you for that patch. What I don't understand: Do I need the /3GB switch for 64-Bit systems?

h.sie
I don't think so, I think that switch is only needed to force 32-bit systems to allow 3GB RAM (of the max 4GB the OS recognizes) to be used by an application provided the application is able to utilize it.
Since a 64-bit system recognizes more system RAM to start with, and doesn't limit apps to 2 gigs of it, if an app's exe file is able to use more than that (which is where Privateer's patch comes in) there's no need to force Windows to allow it.
Anyhow, I've got Win7 64-bit with 6 gigs of system RAM and all I did was run Privateer's 4GB patch for SH3, I didn't do anything else, and I'm definitely seeing the results.
Thanks very much, Mrs_Kaleun.
Mass confusion on my part...
I'm running XP 32 bit. It can only see 3G of my 4G of RAM to start with. (BIOS confirms 4G, Windows says 3G).
How can I get it to see the other 1G so it can "use" the 3G patch?
Or is the 3G patch really only for 64bit O/Ss running games designed for 32bit O?Ss?
Sigh!

When I had XP 32 bit I already had 6 GB of RAM physically installed, but in My Computer>Properties it showed only 3.25 GB.
I'm not sure what the dealio is with that. I remember reading somewhere about Windows "setting aside" a certain amount of RAM for specific purposes depending on (IIRC) what kind of hardware one had installed, so I always figured the other .75 gigs that it should have recognized was being recognized but devoted to something in particular and thus not available for anything else. :hmmm:

what is 2 to the 32 power? A number (in computer world) of 4GB. Windows itself uses ~1GB therefore the max a 32bit Windows OS application can use is 3GB (physical ram). Anything over 4GB physical ram in a 32 bit OS isn't used (can't be addressed).
a 32bit OS can only address 4GB of physical RAM.

In Windows XP 32bit you have to edit the boot.ini file too

Stupid me thought a patch had been released that required 4GB of hard drive space...:rotfl2:
Thanks for the patch.
As you propose a SF free version, i redone a search for the "official hack post form ubi" (funny things i thinks); i have the good one, ouf!
As they propose this strange solution on an offcial forum by a official moderator, i didn't understand why the didn't really propose a safe one.... Or perhaps i did not find it.
My own link for the "LAA /3Gb" subject:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff556232.aspx
http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=112556
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/64-bit-vista-gaming,review-31535.html
And two french articles:
http://www.presence-pc.com/tests/vista-gere-4go-22858/
http://www.zikmao.net/2010/09/optimiser-la-memoire-sous-windows-7.html
I use the "/3bg tweak" on vista 32bits, and for the moment i had no problem. Some 32bits game are LAA ready by default.
bye
