this is the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier.

i need to know how to get her in game as a full career ship, and also single missions and stuff.

Also a damage model will need to be done, but im inexperienced in such things.
the model is obj format.

this is a list of what i want to accomplish.

.Career fully playable
.Single missions
.Damage model
.Modern guns
.Bridge cam, and also Hanger deck Cam (If possible)
.Good Ammo Supplies
.Also as you can see the carrier needs some well deserved minor details.

take a look at the ai_modern_vessels mod. a very similar modern carrier, nimitz-class, and several aircrafts are included.

yes but that's Ai i want this as a playable ship, unless you mean it tells you how to add it and stuff, then that would be fine but i'd rather it be playble.

Most of the knowledge you need is known by the TSWSM team (look in the ATO mods forum) .... and actually much of it by me ...... however the TSWSM is focussed on WWII ..... if you want to learn how to achieve the above ... then maybe join the TSWSM and we can scratch each others backs ????

I can teach you how to damage model and do some rather interesting things with the damage model. I think we were also looking at a way to make it look like a carrier had launched planes ... but can't be sure (not my area of expertise).

hello fellow sailor of Subsim i have a model here thats just about ready to import, but before that i have to get it in.

the vertices amount = 128908

is there a way to get this into game without damaging the model. by which i mean deleting half of it.

i can delete a few things but it might not work the way i want it to. can you please help a fellow captn out and give me as many possible solutions to this
small problem.

Hi guys i have a relatively small update for you

The Model is going through the process of UV mapping for the textures, Karl94 and Privateer have been helping me a lot over the last day or two.

the model still needs fine details, and a texture which i'll apply after Karl94 has had ago a UV Mapping a plain Texture onto the model.

After which i'll try to do my best and create and add the final texture.

The USS - Theodore Roosevelt - CVN - 71 will be career playable, it's armament will be:

Guns

There are four Raytheon / General Dynamics 20mm Phalanx six-barrelled Mk 15 with a range of 1.5km

Missiles

three Raytheon GMLS mk29 eight-cell launchers for Nato Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles. Sea Sparrow has a range of 14.5km and semi-active radar terminal guidance.



Countermeasures

Decoys include four Sippican SRBOC (super rapid bloom off-board chaff) six-barrelled mk36 decoy launchers, SSTDS torpedo defence system and AN/SLQ-25 Nixie torpedo countermeasures system

The Raytheon AN/SLQ-32(V) electronic warfare system

Sensors

Air search radars include the ITT SPS-48E 3-D, operating at E/F-band; Raytheon SPS49(V)5, C/D-band; and Raytheon mk23 TAS, D-band. Surface search radar is the Northrop Grumman Norden Systems SPS-67V, operating at G-band.

Propulsion

The nuclear-powered carrier has two General Electric pressurised water reactors driving four turbines of 260,000hp (194MW) and four shafts. There are four emergency diesels of 10,720hp (8MW).

This might be a little overly optimistic but i intend to be as accurate as possible with it.

Also Ivank is working a full and fruitful career for the mods which will take us to see the entire war. And i will be making several challenging single missions in which to push the ship to her limits and back again.

Hopefully the mod will have a few more supporters, and with them new additions to add.

ok so i've hit a little snag with importing the model to S3d, it imports, no errors then for some reason doesn't show on the preview.

Are these usable do you reckon, i grabbed them from google warehouse and well they look to be decent models, it's just weather they can be used in making the ships over-all defences

Right

My model will import to to 3d max fine, but when i import it to S3d to see if it works i goes in a see my model but it's completely full of holes.

it's like it's failed to render properly.

Is there a way to rebuild the mesh using 3d max and keep the quality of the model.
I've given my model to several people who i hope to hear back from before i go insane and shoot my self.

If anyone has en-counted this problem before please tell me how to sort it out.
I admit i jumped into the deep, I want feed back on how to sort this problem out so that i can continue to work on her further

the model is in, but as you can see slight changes need to be made, right now I'm working on deleting any ambient occlusion or light map with guidance from jhapprich who has given me a nice tutorial to follow.

hopefully the ship will be in game by the end of the week, also i need ask if anyone has and working missile systems :salute:

Hey Iowa,you are doing an excellent job there! You know,would be nice if the Carrier could have around 20 fighters or so splited on deck at their parking positions.Its a pitty to have a carrier with an empty flight deck,dont you think so?

Also,are you planning somehow to model the hangar and an accurate bridge?

Hi guys,

I went and tested if the ship would crash the game but in fact she actually went in!
I started a new career and spawned in the dock at pearl, took my ohio class round a bit towards the sunken ships of BB row. And guess who graced me with her presence.

Keep in mind that i've still got work to do, and so her texture is a bit, well you can see for your self.
(And don't worry about the obvious, i haven't removed anything from the previous owner of that conning tower)

I will hopefully have the texture some what done by the end of today, possibly tomorrow morning if i don't succeed first time.

Also i'm try to add a few planes and also a little suprise to the deck of the ship, at the request of tonibamestre

So I guess this is where i ask what you want to see on her.

Nice work Iowa,glad that you have into consideration the addition of an Air Wing on deck.Also just an idea,do you think that using the two periscopes up and down mechanism,you could animate at least two elevators?

And what do you tell me about adding lighting to the ship he he he?

Well i'm looking around for each view of the ship i can get. right now im trying to find any close up's of each part of the ship.

Tell me tonibamestre, What is your area of expertise then, i need to finish quite a lot but i don't have alot of experience as the rest of you.

This is what i need to do:

Texture coordinates
Texture
Damage model
Radar/Sonar
Nodes
Cfg files
Elevator animations if possible
Single missions

And a lot of other things to do.

I need someone who is well versed in texture coordinates to give me a small and good tutorial.

I Also need someone to help with the nodes. :cry::wah:

Oh well hopefully it wont take long to sort the texture and the nodes out.

Right guys i've been trying to get this UV mapping so that i could sort out the texture problem as you can see further down the page.

I'm using 3ds max 9.

First i UVW map then i continue to UVW unwrap and then add a material. i've done that following several stupid tutorials, that apparently dont work.

IF anyone is on and who is well versed in texturing, i dont care what software you use, i just need someone to deal with this texture problem.

I've asked Keltos and he's taking a look at it friday, but i need it done as soon as possible as i have a lot of other stuff i need to do.
If any one knows how to UV map please send me a private message or reply to this post.

hey iowa, iŽbeen trying to scale the airgroup down,but in my opinion , these planes simply don`t fit. 250.000 faces for only ONE plane are way oo much to handle, and they are only static.I have some good models myself and have a better wing send to you within the next days.

As for escorts i was thinking Karle94's Arleigh Burke if their ready to go (I'm testing now)

That explains everything. Stock textures will not work on ships not made for SH4. As for the Virginia, ETR3(SS) already made one.

Well i've tried my texture that apparently doesn't work either, i don't know enough to sort this problem out on my own. I've asked a few people now and they have my model.

It's been 3 days and no one has gotten back to me, i want to see my first mod succeed but to tell you the truth i don't think it's going to happen.

I can't figure out the problem, even if i do, after that i have to sort out nodes, and then weapons and damage model, and then getting playable.

I'm swamped and i have no way of lightning my load

Sorry i've been absent for a while due to personal issues. i've not got any further with the model as it's completely beyond me as to why the texture will not work...

my only option is to ask if anyone wants they can try to sort it out, but for now i don't have the time as i'm really busy dealing with a family i've never known before last week..

Ok i have a little time to kill over christmas and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on why the texture wont apply properly, i haven't had chance to wwork on it since i last came on, but i'm hoping to at least get the texture done soon with any help you guys can give.

if i explain the problem maybe that will help with a solution.

Well the texture goes onto the model itself, but the problem is it very small and so you get the texture being applied over and over giving a strange looking pattern.

Also i have a problem, the conning tower and the deck has a slight problem that when you apply a texture then it creates a defect sort of thing:

As you can see the texture keeps repeating and the circled parts are whats obviously wrong, if someone can help with the texture i would greatly appreciate it.

Iowa - just a guess here, but you have the conning tower for an actual submarine showing and this will be using the SH4 stock render controller. IIRC (and possibly I don't ..) ... but when I was playing around converting SH3 to SH4 units, I rememebr the game engine get's the right hump if you force it to use two different render controllers...... take a look at a normal SH4 sub and then download and take a look at an SH3 unit (sub or ship, doesn't matter) - you will see the different render controllers towards the top of the .dat file.

Either way, I strongly recommend you modify the .dat file for the conning tower you are using to; 1) remove textures applied to the 3d model and 2) make the conning tower invisible - this is what we do for german units placed in game..... and actually, for a US / allied units in game, there is actually NO NEED for a conningtower unitpart to be configured... the game engine does not require it.... strange but true.

Having done this, apply a texture from a unit which works (look at the .dat file and copy/ paste node from working unit to yours) and then double check to make sure render controller is same type as unit you copied from. This SHOULD result in a properly displayed texture - even if it is not one which matches your ship.

As for doing anything more to create a working texture which matches your ship - someone else will have to help - I'm lost when it comes to creating textures ... but many on here can do it and must be able to help.

To be honest your at a crossroads it seems, you can take the time to learn it and in a few months come out with something you like or, you can appeal to the masses to do it for you keeping in mind that they may not have the same level of interest in seeing this to fruition as you do. Or there's a third possibility still, that this may not be doable at all (usually this conclusion is reached after months of hard work). I'm not trying to quash your creativity, just giving you somethings to think about.

Iowa - in the last screenshot you posted above it still looks to me like some textures are trying to be applied between the rigging from the Uboat conning tower and the flight deck.... as I stated above .... removed the conning tower from the UPCGE or go into the conning tower .dat file and make the whole thing invisible.

Also do a quick check for me .... in the main ship.dat file, do you see a node named unified render controller ?

Hello, It's been a while.

I sent out several zip files to different people about my models texture problem and after i did that, my comp burnt out about 3 days later.

I've been inactive for the last few months due to illness, again lol and was wondering if anyone still has the model and would be interested in completing her as i've no longer got files to work with.

Yeah but he hasn't worked on it since i dont think. I can get the model i used for the mod but i had to get someone else to convert and sort out any 3d problems with it.

I have found the very first of my files for the carrier model on an old memory stick i left at my sisters place.

Good and bad news.

The file is in sketchup, it's the original file i downloaded. the good news is it's a brilliant model and very nicely done.

Bad news is that i have no idea how to convert it to OBJ format. and then to proceed to put her into game as playable with a texture and weapons.

i Wanted this texture from the hornet to go onto the Carrier to pay sort of a respect to the USS hornet that sank in 1942.

If i upload the original model, would someone convert her to OBJ and proceed to get her into the game as a playable carrier for the entire us campaign?

when do you get the message... when i save it it doesnt say anything about the un-equal vert's...

Im using Misfit Modeler 3D... if that helps... or does it have to be in google sketchup? :o

Ok.
i am viewing her now, and what i'm seeing is the aircraft carrier, and numerous flaps and other structures outside of it. like, a fair way away from the base carrier model... i have never modeled for SH4, so i have no clue if this is normal..

I'm hoping that when this model has been successfully integrated into the game and has been given textures and other more important criteria, that I can begin to add these few but effective systems to the ship:

Karle94 has kindly offered to take a look at the model and make sure there are no problems with it and so on...Hopefully the ship will be able to go into s3d soon and the rest of the work can continue

Very interesting.Would be nice to have working Sea sparrow and Phalanx systems,so as radars,some elevators and a crowded flight deck+hangar(not just 3 or 4 planes).

Well the weapons side of it should be ok as far as phalanx is concerned. The sea sparrow system will be tricky to implement as we need to get the weapon to work correctly in terms of how it will sight and engage a target as realistically as possible.

The flight deck will be a future update as will the hanger and possibly elevators, with this in mind i don't have much experience modding so it will take time and i'll need advice and help along the way.

And just so people know, i will not be taking full credit, although the mod is mine i have gotten a lot of and will get a lot more help along the way.

So yes full credit will be given to those who take part in the development of this mod!

I don't believe that 1.4 is usable with this mod, as 1.5 has MANY more options ecetera..

Also, I don't believe that a Nimitz Class Supercarrier has guns :up:

But I believe that he is hinting at guided missile support :rock:

Sea sparrows, Phalanx CIWS` and RAMs. She packs a punch on her own. As for good effects for missiles ask Jhaprich, maybe he has some good tips.

The only guided weapon in the game is the acoustic homing torpedo. They only work properly at slow speeds. At high speed they zig-zag, a LOT. You can`t hit a barn door a point-blank range.

Just to let people know that I have spoken to Iowa101, He's given permission to carry on developing this mod. he's currently unable to help as he's busy with life and due to computer failure he lost the original files, He did say he wasn't far from having a decent texture on with the help of a friend, also he sent the model to me that he used and hopes we'll have a working Carrier in game not to long from now.

Sigh...no one remembers the other USS Theodore Roosevelt (SSBN 600) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Theodore_Roosevelt_%28SSBN-600%29), a George Washington class ballistic missile submarine. My father served on her for a time, and was even part of the decommissioning crew. He has a piece of her pressure hull on a plaque.
