Best campaign?

Hi,
what year should I choose? In Whitch harbor is it best to start?
I know it depends a bit on how hard I would like it to be, but a few advises couldn't hurt. (I like big waves and bad weather)

Were are the best hunting grunds?
Should I try to reach the specific patrol grid, or just ignore it and go somewere else?

Early years - Lorient asap! BF17 is full of juicy vessels most of the time - I always keep just off the continental shelf and pass through it.
If you've got GWX then your assigned patrol grid doesn't matter unless you also have WB's (?I think) Renown Replacement mod, if you've got SH3 Commander then you can select your own patrol grid. :D

There are so many options open to you....perhaps you might want to consider starting a few careers in different timeframes and locations.
