For those of you who ever wished for a SH4 version of the popular Sh3 Commander program, version 2 of my SH4 Commander (paper & dice edition) is now available. It's usable with both USN & KM campaigns. All you need to do is print off the document, get hold of a pair of six sided dice and a pen & follow the instructions. OK, it's not a computer program, but I can give a 100% guarantee that it won't cause your cmputer to crash.
Not a mod as such, but hopefully helpful...

Ohhhhh thank you very much! just got to get me six sided dice. :yeah:

So I shoved the dice into the USB slot and now what?

I thought SH4 had automatic retirements. At any rate I've always used a 1D6 progressive system. After Patrol #6 I roll a die. On a 1 I retire. After patrol #7 I retire on a 2, etc. At least that's what I did back when I played SH1.
I'm also using a die-roll damage system posted by Tedhealey years ago.
So I shoved the dice into the USB slot and now what?
The dice go in the disc drive, not th USB port. N00B! :O:

Some people never can figure out how to use a computer. Thanks Steve for pointing out the correct procedure.

The PC that I had a copy of my SH4 Commander (paper & pen) guidelines crashed some time ago and I've just realised I don't have another copy. It's not available on filefront anymore. Does anyone have a copy they could send me?
Thanks.

SH3 Patrol Log Editor (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=4530)
i've not heard of SH4 Commander.

Did you bother reading the first post of the thread. No
I'll certainly be monitoring this thread, as a player who avidly renames and customizes my crewmen this type of thing would be a huge help. Hope someone shares it!
Forensicman, do you recall if you included a means of awarding the crew medals? I'd very much like to manually award purple hearts to (formerly) wounded men, what since that medal seems downright broken in both vanilla and FOTRS.

It has been over seven years since Forensicman101 visited SubSim Tabris. His "mod" was a tablet of paper, pencil and dice, with a chart he had for the "chances". It's like adding a gameboard component to the software... As for crewman names, prior to the start of a new career, you can change the "Game \Data \UPCData \UPCCrewData \CrewMembers.upc" file. Once the career is started, you would be dealing with the Save folder, and have to find your most recent Save under "Documents \SH4 \cfg \SaveGames \XXXXXXXX", where the "X" represents a hexidecimal digit (0-9 and A-F), then under that folder, the "\ActiveUserPlayerUnits.upc" file, looking for all of the headings of "UserPlayerUnit 1.Compartment X.CrewMemberSlot X.CrewMember", where the "X" is a number representing a Slot for each CrewMember. You will find a "NameDisplayable=" line with each crewmember's name on it. You do have to be VERY careful editing anything in the Save folder though. The irritating part of editing the Save data is that the data is all lost in several "upgrade" situations. As for crew medals, there is not much that can be done about the way the game does those. You could add CapnScurvy's U.S. Medals Fix II_Stock (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=597) to a Stock game mix, and get quite a bit of it "fixed", but the game's "logic" for the process is not editable, and is sadly lacking. CapnScurvy also made a version of that for RFB and TMO. "Search" on his name from the Mods page on SubSim if you want the others. :salute:

you can add Purple Hearts and any other medal that is available in the modset by adding them to the \Documents\SH4\data\cfg\SaveGames\xxxxxxxx\CareerT rack.UPC.
PB explains the xxxxxxxx in a post just above this one.
use a plain text editor such as Notepad to edit that file.
Look for the line that reads:
CrewMembersCurrentMedalsRepository=NULL,
and just add each award separated by commas after the NULL,. you will probably see some examples when you open the file.
be sure to use the proper spelling for each award.

thanks for the reply. With the utmost respect, it has been six days, not seven years. He just necro'd his own thread from a new account, if I understand correctly.
I appreciate the savegame editing tips from the both of you (Marco as well)!

Does anyone know if this would be available for placement in the "Mods" section for preservation?
The link above doesn't work, and this would be a wonderful thing to have if someone still has it tucked away somewhere! :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
