Gentlemen:
How can we get the View around the Scope to Rotate around the Interior of the Conning Tower as the Scope is turned....
To get the interior view of the Conning Tower to rotate around the room in the same Direction as the Scope is turned , so as to Mimic the actual rotation of the Scope , showing not only the View through the Scope turning, but the View around the Scope in the Conning Tower Turning as Well, also turning in the same direction .... This would make the Experience of turning the Scope 1000 Times more realistic in feel... as it would create the feeling of actually walking around the Scope as it is Turned , in the Direction that it is turned
If this effect of actually walking around the Scope can be Created, it would greatly increase the Realism of Silent Hunter.

While my knowledge of the games engine is limited, i believe this would be impossible. You'd require rendering of 2 Areas at once which i don't believe is possible without coded support and some neat camera work to implement it. The Periscope view is unfortunately only rendered through the circle view point. Everything outside that is simply a image file.
Even assuming you could do it, rendering 2 areas at once like that would be very stressful on a computer = /
Edit: Not to say i don't like the idea! I think it would be very cool

What mod are you using that shows the interior of the control room through the scope view? In real life they had a blinder for the eye not being used, or you would close one eye. Being able to see anything but the lens view itself is unrealistic.

There is only one mod I've seen that shows the fixed view of the room behind the scope, but in reality your face would be in the lens and you wouldn't see the interior. Code isn't going to allow what would be nice.
You can use the freecam to roam around the sub and pretend your in first person.

what I would like to see is when you are in the conning tower view, the scope is rotated towards where you left it, hate that its fixed always facing aft.You go to the scope view looking through eye piece and go to bearing 0, when you go back to conning tower view, the scope is pointing forward, not fixed as it is now even if youre facing other directions.

That's one of the many things that mods have fixed in SH3, that I would love to see in SH4. :sunny:

So you think it could be fixed in SH 4?

Thank you all for your Valuable input on this Topic.
I was only offering up some Fuel for thought
It is after all , only after such serious discussion , that any real Advancements are Born.
In Answer to Sailor Steve , I would Say of course you are right Sir that In Practice one's Eye is so close to the Eyepiece of the Scope so as to Prevent the seeing of any of the control room , I've Experienced this myself several times while looking through the Scope of a Fleet Boat, and again when I had the oportunity to View Target Ships in the Harbor though the Attack scope of a Los Angeles Class boat at The Base at Bangor Washington. However , what I experienced at those times , was a view far wider than any I have Seen available here for SH4,,,
a View that should more accurately extend from one Edge of the Computer Monitor to the Other, and taking up the entire Screen, As an Astronomer , this has also been my experience at the eyepiece of The Telescope.
Hopefully we can , through the Thoughts offered up here now ,envision the Next Step in The realization of Acuracy in a Simulated Periscope View, and Help to Progress to the Next Generation of ideas
perhaps in the Future , it would be possible to toggle back and forth between a Full screen view , and the narrower Scope Views now Available.

Nothing wrong with throwing out good idea's, how most of these mods come about.

Not exactly what you're after but...
what i do sometimes for that 1st-person 'feel' is to use my arrow keys to 'move' myself to the appropriate station (i.e. the conning tower). Then (using SHIV Speech) I say "up scope" and the scope will start to rise in front of me and I 'step' towards it and hit F3 to change to the scope view. It's a bit artificial but you get the idea.
As I said, not exactly real 1st-person but combined with SHIV Speech it's not bad for an extra bit of immersion plus you can 'yell' out your command and 'rush' back down to the control room so to speak. SHIV Speech does have some limitations/quirks but I find it adds so much to the immersion factor.

I'm sure it can. Unfortunately the modder who did it for SH3 (like so many of them) doesn't seem to be interested in SH4. I don't even know where to begin with something that complex. My modding 'talent' only extends to swapping sounds and researching historic ship names. :dead:

Perhaps the modder who did this in SH 3 could be persuaded ? Really would add.
