Iīm searching a good mod for add distress or emergency flares in the merchants/warships, for SH3 GWX 3. :06: I like the flares in SH4 TMO...
What is the best mod available for that effect?

This adds damage effects from SH4 to SH3, including distress flares. The only problem is they don't fire when the ship is hit, but when it sinks.

Many thanks! Only a question: I have the Rbs GWX 30 71 rb fixed mod installed, buy I didnīt see flares in the ships. Is the same version? This 204f1 version of SH4 effects is better than the 30-71?

No, 30-71 is newer, larger and better. I linked to the only one we have here at Subsim.
I too use 30-71, and I see flares all the time. As I said, it's annoying because they don't launch until the ship actually slips beneath the waves.

OK, but with 30-71, I donīt see flares...It seems some incompatibility between mods...

I've been playing LSH v5 just recently and it has ship horns and flares that are launched when ships are under attack, I can't say I remember ever hearing ship horns with GWX but the SH4 effects for SH3 does add flares on sinking (as well as a load of other brillant effects).
It would be great to have the LSH v5 flares and horn mod for GWX.

Yes, I have LSH3 in other SH3 installation and the effects are great.
The problem is the "sh3.dl" file. It is overwrited by a variety of mods. Because I use Fm Interior with others mods and the Aces Multimod compatibility, "LifeBoats&Debris" must remain before Aces MC, but SH4 Effects must remain before LifeBoats and after those mods, the Aces MC, overwrites all. Aces MC cancel my SH4 effects...:wah:
Iīll try the horn and flares mod from LSH3 in the installation of GWX...;)

I added the SH4 effects after Aces Compatibility mod and they worked great, I'm sure there are some problem but I've not come across them yet.

Do you have the flares? I have the SH4 effects after the Aces MC, some effects are there, but the flares are totally ausent...

I've just appended the Rbs1_SH4_Effects_GWX_30_71 to the mod list below.
I know JSGME complains of clashes but the game plays well and the mod certainly provides fireworks.

I put the LSH3 V5 Shiphorns and flares submod in my list of GWX and now I have the flares: white (alarm) and red (SOS when ships are sinking). All seems work fine. The white flares and horns are appearing with the ships undamaged.

Observe the positions of LSH3 Schiffhorns. The Spezialeeffekte Mittel is a medium pack of effects.
If you have LSH3 V5, you can try this submods. Iīll try the SH4 Effects, but if this mod have the flares when the ships go down, ths LSH3 V5 is best...

This LSH sub mod sounds interesting, but I suppose the big question is, can the LSH distress flares sub mod only (i.e. no other LSH mods being used) be used with a GWX installation without any side effects? For example, does JSGME report any clashes with other mods?

The submod (an optional for the main LSH3 V5 mod), adds flares (graphics) and some sounds (shiphorns).
I donīt observe any colateral effect. The main and more conflictive mods: Subpens, Fm Interior, LifeBoats&Debris, Depth Charge Shake, pennants and flags in the sub, open hatch, Super Turm VIIC, Aceīs Multimod compatibility, MaGUI interface (a derivative of OLC GUI), all works fine.:yeah:

So please don't argue if some of the GWX-ships do not show the signals. :wah:
The Merchants fire the white signal, if your U-boat is detected and the red one, when the ship sinks.
Concerning the warships, only escorts and destroyers use the white signal - light crusiers and higher do not use them anymore.

My question now concerns realism, did merchant ships fire white starshells to illuminate the area if they suspected a u-boat's presence? Surely this would only help the u-boats see their targets more easily. Recently there was a mod released that removed serchlights from merchants for this very reason. I like the idea of red distress flares when a ship is going down, but am not certain about merchants illuminating the convoy with starshells, perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge on this subject could clarify?

Thanks for the information! In my test of the LSH3 V5 Flares submod in GWX, no problems. Of course, some merchants havenīt the flares, but it seems realistic for me. Not all the ships shoot the flares...

The flares and shiphorns is an optional submod of the LSH3 V5 supermod. You must download the entire mod...But the supermod is awesome, and I highly recommend you make a parallel install of SH3 (via MultiSH3), with LSH3. I have two installations: SH3 + GWX and SH3 + LSH3V5 (both over-modded...)

I had the same with v5, you need both of the LSH3 mods mentioned earlier by fitzcarraldo
