View Full Version : Does the weather suck or am I just unlucky?

I'm running TMO 20 for a while now, and I've noticed one thing: bad weather.

Is it me, or when you're sailing around trying to find a ship to sink, the weather is usually very bad. Also if you're near a port. Extreme rain and visibility drops to around 30M. I never noticed it particulary so much in stock, and it's frustrating.
Example:
I was on my way back from a patrol and I was asked to sink any ships i could find. After many days of fruitless searching I picked up a merchant contact (a large modern tanker). However, the weather was how i described, and it's impossible to engage anything in weather like that, so I turned and left it, eventually returning to Fremantle emptyhanded.

I've also noticed it when I've had to do recon pictures of ports too; I've had to submerge and reach within 45M of a ship to photograph it, with heavy rain.

Is this something genuine in TMO or am I just a very unlucky skipper?

Thanks

My experiences were pretty much the same with TMO.

It's just one of the many reasons I dropped TMO and went to RFB 2.0 to get away from all the wackiness.

Just bad luck, Ive had plenty of nice calm days in TMO...depends on time of year and where you are also. Dont give up, just having bad luck.NO reason to drop such an excellent mod.

I have had a mix of good and bad weather in TMO.

Pretty accurate and realistic as far as I can tell. :yeah:

Now that you mention, I have noticed slightly worse weather overall since switching to TMO. However, not exceptionally so. Further, I've found it to be both a blessing and a curse. While rough weather makes getting a good targeting solution quite difficult, it also allows you to get away with a lot. And against a big convoy with escorts, this can be a good thing.

NO reason to drop such an excellent mod.Long time using TC can cause weather to "lock". Sometimes a dive may trigger a weather change. Or moving closer to a coast... or go to another area for a while... or simple track target to weather clears up.

Or get the 3D Radar mod for tracking and targetting under these conditions.

I've seen no changes, two patrols and got caught in one storm. I actually thought the weather was weakened.

Myself, I prefer bad weather, get your attacks off on the surface, move out and do it again. Easy to wipe out entire convoys with the deckgun and torps.

The only thing I hate is storms fade out rather fast. Nothing worse than being on the surface in a nice storm in the middle of a TF, go check your sonar and out of no where your ship gets blasted...go to the bridge and blue sky. It is cool to be on the bridge as a storm clears and watch the rain die out and clouds change, some awesome SS's. I've got a few of light rain in the sunshine, just needs to take longer.

I played TMO for a while and rather liked the weather changes, though I never experienced it to the effect that Aviv has. As far as engaging targets, I think it makes it much easier to close-in on a target before blastin' the crap out of it.http://www.smileyarena.com/emoticons/Emotions/Laught/laught13.gif

If the weather does not change for a long period of time you could use Control N to reset it. This will produce some strange effects, like sunshine and rain, but it goes back to normal shortly. The best method is to use control N, save the game, exit to the main menu. and reload. The game restarts with calm seas and clear skies.

I first used this to help me complete a photo mission to Hiroshima. Although the Bible says it will never happen again, the game's engine gave me an intense storm for 40 days and nights.

If you hit control N while at the cam, it will reset the weather, no need to save and reload. I've never seen any strange effects, just sets the weather back to clear skies, just don't be near the enemy when you do it.

Huh, didn't know you could do that.:hmmm: Cheers. And thanks. :)

You do have to be at the periscope, on deck, or on the external cam for control N to work, I forgot about that. Saving and reloading will give you clear skies AND calm seas. Control N, in game, just clears the skies.

I know how you feel TT_TT the weather is so annoying. Realistic, but annoying. I had one patrol that I went from Southern Austrailia to Northern Japan, it took I think 1 one to 1 1/2 months to get there and the whole trip was nothing but fog and rain >:( And just my luck, I couldnt target anything without getting VERY close to the point where torps are useless. I had to skip targeting I think: 2 Task Forces, 5 Large Convoys, 3 Regular convoys, 4 Small Convoys, and 15 regular ships....anyone know how to disable fog or rain?

Well the weather was not always great guys so its realistic.

No problems, I run into weather I usually ride it out, if find a convoy I track via radar and wait for storm to clear, if it does not after a while, I use Cntrl N(for time reasons)

Weather did not always cooperate with sub skippers even when coming into port. Some skippers would arrive at midway and would have to wait outside the reef for a day sometimes more until the seas calmed down and they were allowed to enter.Just how life goes, its a realism thing.

I love the bad weather. Setting up a sonar only Dick O'Kane shot is challenging and quite rewarding when it works.

And when it doesn't, going in for a low-vis, storm-ridin', guns-blazin' brawl in the middle of a convoy on the open seas is thrilling.

It's especially fun in my campaign where I captain the USS Nautilus, a Narwhal-class fleet boat. Those two 6 inch guns flat out murder marus tankers and even match up well with destroyers, as I am still sommewhat harder to hit than they are, even in that beast.

Yeah, weather can be very sucky in some spots and, even in places which are not particularly bad-weatherish, still a tropical storm may hit you and follow you for days.
