Hey guys. I saw a screenshot not too long ago of a later fleet boat (Gato/Gar/Balao) with a red painted keel. Is that paint job still available somewhere?
Were there Fleet boats made black with red keels in RL? just like our nuke fleet?

just open the sub of your choice "TO" image file and color the waterline to your own taste.
its not obvious which section is the waterline but trail and error will show you which section to change.
look at some of the surface ships "TO" files and you'll see where they have the waterline colors

No, US subs had all black keels for the duration of the war.
Here's the specifics for camouflage Measure 32 (late war):

For early/mid war, all boats were in Measure 9 which means they were basically painted matte black on verticle surfaces and glossy black on horizontal surfaces.

Everything you need to know about submarine paint schemes right here. They did have red keels but were repainted black.

Hmm... my modding experience tells me im in for a headache if i try and repaint something on one of these boats and ill probably end up with a pink Tench class instead of a black and red Gato. Thanks for the links to the real life data though it was a interesting read.

I will give it a try. Lets say... I'll repaint the keel of a Gar class boat.... is that the same skin as the gato? probably is i think i remember FUBAR stating something like that on his website... whats unique that might have been started out with a red keel?.... A Porpoise? i'll let you all know if i make some progress.
There was red anti-rust paint underneath, and the black came off. Seadragon apparently became "red" all over after very little time at sea (Ruhe mentions it a few times). They called her the Red Dragon.

Thats pretty funny :D
Apparently "Tokyo Rose" mentioned them a few times as the "piratical" submarine in the South China Sea. :)

Then open the NSS_Gar.npc and make the change for the texture name in there.
