View Full Version : U_BOOTTYPIIA first teaser [WIP]

Hi fellows Subsimers,

I am proud to announced that U-BOOTTYPIIA_HAHD is now very close to be a Uber mod, when i start this mod i never expected to reach that stage.
But each time i start playing with one part of the game i find another one i want to modify and the list go on and on etc.

So here it is the first video teaser showing the brand new G7a torpedo from U-BOOTTYPIIA_HAHD, the torpedo is a brand new model with the correct
length, pistol and propeller + the tail fins. Colors are historically accurate and weathering and grease show on texture. No FPS difference between
the stock torpedo and U-BOOTTYPIIA_HAHD G7a, everything work perfectly no bug at all.

Now here is the list of what i have done so far since last spring, all my spare time was dedicated to bring you this fully new experience for Sh3.


1. All the TypIIA sub remodel to exact historical details.(even the small hook)

2. Complete remodeling of TypIIA conning tower.

3. Complete remodeling of the interior including machine room&torpedo room + open hatch according to U-1 to U-6 who had the same interior as the
Vesikko, expect a lot of brass dials!

4.Brand new flak historically accurate 2cm/C30 with canister mount fully functional, when submerged the gun disappear and the canister lid is
on,camera rework to fit correct fov, accurate C/30 sound etc. (even with a round insert in chamber).

5.New accurate Nedinsco Carl Zeiss Jena periscope.

6.New Obs and attack Periscope pole and heads with lens reflections.

7.All new UVW mapping layout for the sub,conning tower,command room etc., bringing realism to a new height.

8.Highly detail textures including ambient occlusion for each sub part with accurate color and weathering.

9.New Wilhemhaven dock with bollards,hand rail,lamp post based on historical pictures + highly detail texture with algae waterline.

10.New historically accurate G7a&G7e torpedo model, length correct, propeller, tail fins and detonator+ New Ambient occlusion map(shadows),torpedo now

show in open tube and disappear after launch.

11.All U-boat reflections including flak C/30 receive my personal beauty trick touch.

12.All new field cap, officer visor and helmet 3d model with correct kriegmarine gold eagle decal on the left side all with highly detail textures.

13. All new crew face texture with realistic eyes i even managed to make one resemble Jurgen Prochnow. All with complete new handmade specular maps.

14.New highly detail crew uniform with new normal bump map that look good with the new uniform texture+handmade specular map that look correct under

lighting.

15.Complete new interface for each different stations all with slide out dials and console for immersion factor, Att and obs periscope +Uzo have a

small TDC fat/lut slide out console, TDC complete rework according to typIIA.

16.New customs made crew icons from 3d model i made to bring variety not only the crews icons but all the crews you see in damage room, barrack

etc.Now if you have death crew they will have there body wrap in the flag instead of that blotchy red figure.


17.New interior lighting and ambiance.

18.Exhaust diesel smoke and new water stream with new alpha map that are realistic.

19.New bow and aft spray that look realistic i spend 2 days testing different alpha maps opacity and design to get that result.

20.New water splash for the conning tower.

21.New bubble particle system rework with better texture.

22.New damage decal texture for sub and other boats including torpedo damage.

23.Exclusive 3d artwork for each loading screen illustrating life as it was on a sub.

24.New sky and atmosphere + sea tweaks.

25. new sea floor texture.

I will stop the list here but there a lot more things i modify but i don't remember all because i am tired and it's late.

At first i was suppose to make a big video showing all the new features but instead i am going to release many small video like this one to show all
the modifications.

I will release a lot of them as the week go by so stay tuned at least now you can see the torpedo so just imagine the rest of the boat.

Hi gentleman's,


It is really nice to see your warm welcome again after my long silence, but like i said i was busy working on all the different parts of our beloved sim!

Take note that the texture on the G7a will have the top seam corrected before release i notice it after i made the video.

On my to do list before first beta release :


1. Finishing texture for command room and interior of conning tower.

2.Rendering shadow pass for command room.

3.Minor adjustment to water streams

4.Texturing harbor building and adding more detail without killing the fps.

5.Will need help and advice from Flakmonkey and Diving Duck to make engine room and torpedo room animation work in game.

6.Minor contrast adjustments on some interface parts.

And some few minor tweaks here and there.

I will now create my youtube account to upload the new Flak 2cm C/30 video, the flak gun will be show on the stock sh3 TypIIA deck because i don't want to spoil the fun all at once !:haha:

Hi Fubar2Niner, thank for the positive feedback it is the only think that keep us doing it.

I will shurely do the VIIC to but since i am a solo guys with no teams like the GWX one this will take a couple weeks of spare time to finish it.

The reason why i choose to do the typIIA first was the real challenge it offer, you have 5 fish and everyone of them is crucial to succeed, and you can't beat them for port raiding.

Now at least in my mod it is more exciting starting a brand new career in the IIA.

Thank Diesel for the feedback i need that to keep me pushing my limit forward because it is a lot of dedicated hours to give back all the good moments i had from this community, the people here simply deserve the best for the endless hard work without a pay check they did on that game.

The great team at Ubisoft Romania did a great job but when money and greedy CEO come in the game they push the poor fellow to release it earlier because you can find everywhere in the game files that they left many unfinished stuff.

Imagine a world where every one could create without the inconvenient that money bring everywhere in our miserable materialism system!

I know some say it utopia but most of the people saying this are the one who exploit others to get what they want without sweating an once just because dady have plenty of cash!

Dreams are the only thing still free so enjoy it before they put a device to tax it.

I hope one day the street people will wake up all at once and teach them a good lesson they will never forget or let's bring back the good ole tar and feather ceremony for the greedy. :haha:

That the reason i loved doing this, you are the reason you the community here at subsim forum!

Everybody one day or another is re installing SH3 and start to wonder seeing all the available new mods, how much week should he spend just choosing a mod!:hmmm:

I wish i had a team to :wah:, but i'm a one man orchestra and i am plague with the disease call perfectionism ! Sometime i could spend an entire day just to adjust a texture to my taste.

My goal in all that project is to bring history as close as possible with the details.

I am working on the Wilhelmhaven dock adding new stuff and retexturing building etc I would love to have more Wilhelmhaven photo references from 1930 to 1944, like flak emplacement, etc.

I made a rail crane the small one they used to load torpedo, i have finish the Deutsch reichbanh train wagon, adding new building + i reduced my high poly version of a Kubelwagen and an Opel blitz truck i made in the past year to add some life on departure.

Thank again for your support i will release the torpedo mod as a solo mod by the end of the day i just finish last night the G7e so i only need to texture the others fish with variant to identify them.

At least the sub exterior and conning tower is almost ready to upload maybe tonight or tomorrow depending of my connection so stay tuned i need your feedback folks without it my work is worthless . :salute:

Hi Fubar2Niner,

If only my internet connection would last more than 20 min:damn: I try to upload the sub video and it is in 2 separate videos because of the size limit from youtube, but believe me starting a campaign with my Typ IIA will never be the same again i even managed to redo the caustics animation if you remember before the caustic reflection was distort on the deck and it was ugly killing the immersion for me.

Now we will have nice dancing caustics reflection on the deck and the animation i have made is so much better than the original one.

I managed to breakthrough this one by cheating the game engine i mean i just rotate my new deck 90 degrees and export it to s3d and miraculously it work no more distortion :rock:

This afternoon if my connection is OK both videos will be online prepare for a treat :salute:

Sorry i was quiet this week on the status of the project but only because i was adding more stuff to the sub and the Wilhelmshaven dock area like the authentic dock crane use at the time to replace the ugly yellow one in game originally the color was black.

I already said in another post that the VIIC will be next but since it is a lot of work i cannot say for sure that i will go for the IX type and it is also depending on the amount of references available, in a word there is a chance i will do it to like the VIIC but they will be released as single mod.

The reason is simple it is because of the type IIA different TDC layout it is impossible to integrated them in U-BOOTTYPIIA_HAHD.

Wait until you see the new sub mate everything is redone : 3d model with first time ever in sh3 a full 3d deck in detail, skin,bow and aft spray, waterholes drain, wake,caustics light refraction, fully authentic flak C/30, open hatch on conning tower looking down you see the command room etc.

When submerged hatch closed of course:har:

Hi LGN1,

I understand your concern over the typ IX and Philipp also ask me about the typ IX but like i already say if i do this one to, it would be late in the years because when i start on a sub it is first examining every pictures i can put my hand on looking at each detail and variants from available pictures then the work start.

Since i am an history freak i put all the detail that i can introduced in the boat i even research the correct color chart and use a weathering technique that can adjust correctly to the game engine shader.

Be sure if i make it it would be done with the same attention i put on the typ IIA. :salute:

For the video i could have upload it last week but since I'm totally nut i said to myself why not pushing the limit even further, i mean i load my mod and i look at the boat in the stock Wilhelmshaven harbor and god my boat deserve a decent harbor to navigate in.

So i went from modeling all the original crane in the Bau hafen to replace the ugly non realistic yellow one. After that i made extensive research for factory and buildings in the bau hafen area and now i am modeling the langer Heinrich shwimkran:har:

As you can see when i fnish one part i look at the rest and i keep adding new props here and there. The game engine is really capable of handling all those new models so far my ram footprint is still very low comparing with GWX and other mod but i have not the amount of models that others mega mod have because i focus more on detail close to the area we see and the immersion is really great so far.

The shape of the Wilhelmshaven harbor is not correct in stock and i also want to modify it but so far i am not sure how to proceed with it? Is it the mission editor that people use to modify harbor and terrain?

And considering now the size of my mod i am seriously thinking on recruiting some fellow modders to accelerate the release if nobody want to join my project then i will release it later than i expect instead of Halloween it will be more Christmas if i am all alone with what left to do.

If harbor props texturing go well tomorrow i will be able to upload the video in the weekend.

Believe me i never expected to get hook like that modding the game but it does grown on you as you start seeing the result.

Thank for you offer to help what i would need to finalize the mod is adding more ships variety like merchant pack and planes pack plus adding more traffic to enemy harbor.

Great work you did on that SH5 menu too bad i really don't like SH5 version and will probably never use it again it is on the shelf to collect the dust of eternity.

I would also need advice from menu expert to know if it is possible to make different periscope,uzo and TDC menu for each submarine like the typIIA have is own TDC layout and when you go for the VIIC the menu load the TDC layout for this boat something like two menu for each sub?

And i also need to know a clear and non confused explanation on how do we modify terrain and adding harbor to the game, all the post i saw on the forum are unclear and vague nobody is mentioning a straight to the point how to?

When the mod is finish i promised i would do clear and straight to the point video tutorials for the main modding aspect of SH3.

once you have made your gui working without faults ,then it will be a simple rearrangement of items in menu_ini (one menu_ini for each sub) and probably(sure) some tga images for each sub . these will be some mini mods(one for each sub) that must be enabled ,via jsgme, on top of your core files .

Hi Oby,

SH5 might have different controllers for underwater appearance of objects and the blur effect could be another one to. But since i don't play with SH5 i will be of no help to sort it out cause i am pretty busy right now at finishing my own mod and for the clean texture i will upload it when i have some spare time.

I try to not underestimated the time some assets take to make but i always make mistake regarding the time it take to completion!

And when i get a little bit too much excited after some major progress i give release date to early! Well at least i think this will truly make SH3 revived again:up:

In the future i will just try not to mention a date or day until i am finish.

Great Hans! There are great environment mods for SH3, but ever they lack some thing: or the sky or the moon or the waves...I hope your achievement will be the great env mod for SH3! Iīm watching it with anxiety!!!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: It is a 16 Km or 8 Km env?

So far it is a 8km but it is easy to a just to 20 km will probabbly adding this as an option in JSGME.

Many thanks for the answers! If the env is a 8 KM, I think the sensors of the "stock" GWX works with your mod. For the 20 Km version, Makman has a fix for GWX sensors in his MEP v3 (20 KM) mod. I donīt know if only the "sensors. dat" file is the only needed to mod for the GWX (or LSH3 5.1), for make the sensors works in the new environment.
