View Full Version : What game resolution do you use?

I'm working on a project and have come across a problem within the stock game structure that effects game play and my intended modification. I'm wondering what game resolution you have set in the Graphic Options menu?

The reason I'm asking can be found in the following images from a stock game set at two different resolutions 1024x768 and 1280x1024.

Here's the 1024 x768 showing a ship at 1000 yards distance and the stock periscope telemeter marks showing the length at 22 and 3/4 marks (nearly 23).

Here's the same ship, same distance, at the 1280x1024 resolution.

My problem is this, the game uses the same stock "periscope mask" for the two different resolutions. But more importantly, the different game resolutions create different results of the same sized periscope telemeter marks. I'm planning on correcting the accuracy of the telemeter markings to give accurate measurements of both height and length but this problem seems to create a need to have a corrected scope (camera settings) for each resolution you use! So a poll may help in working toward the resolution most used by the community.

1400 X 1080 or something like that. 4:3 ratio. 19 to 20 inch LCD's in that ratio are hard to find.

Right back at ya Clayp!!

You too Wilcke!!

I can see this poll is a little light in the shorts by not listing more resolution sizes. Since I use a 19'' monitor that won't die I'm apparently out of touch with what's being used these days. I have pushed SH4 through my 32'' HD TV I use for my racing sim, but I came to the conclusion the size was too great to manipulate the mouse effectively.

I'm beginning to see any chance of doing a "one mod fits all" may be thrown out the window with what's been recorded so far.

Thanks all for responding so far.

Thanks everyone for responding.

To update you, I've been testing as many resolutions as my two gaming computers allow and have found only the 1280x1024 resolution re sizes the image differently. That's good news, at least there will only be a need to make two different sized mods instead of one for each and every resolution.

On a further note, I'm seeing many of you use a wider screen monitor to play the game. This opens up the possibilities for putting more on the screen, which I like. Trying to squeeze what I'd like to do into the 1024x768 sized screen was cutting down my mod plans.

Resolution=1600,1200 - Resolution=1152,864 - finally 'moved up' card wise from years at 1024x768 but am trapped in 4x3 land.

Just put a better card into this middle aged computer and finally got to see SH4 in its full glory which is nice.

Happy Hunting!

Edit, corrected settings - I don't know what saved game those other numbers came from..... anything in 4x3 land.
