32 Bit

I noticed one of the biggest reasons for the less than great graphics is that it's 16 bit.
Is there any way I can change it?

No. You can only choose resolutions with 16 bit color depth. For some games people have written special directx dlls to intercept directx functionality. But that would be Uber-modding requiring programming knowledge, and I think even prohibitted in the EULA since they are similar to executables.
