Does anyone else find it strange that after waves pass over the deck the water cascades off of it but not when they hit the tower? How difficult would it be to add the same effect to the whole conning tower?

About half of the conning towers in the game already have them actually, however, they do need tuned up. The other half of the conning towers seem to be missing .fx files entirely. Now, after the S3D update, I think(I am not sure) that it will be easy to add them in. And, of course, we can adjust the current conning waves in any way we want, I have just been holding off because I wanted to add in the missing waves at the same time(doing similar work at the same time saves you a lot of testing time).

I`m not sure if you understood CJH right.
I think he was talking about water coming off conning tower (wintergarden mainly) same as when submarine emerges/waves gets on the deck and water starts to flow down the deck (cascades down). "Bow wave" of the conning tower is done pretty nicely (same effect has deck gun which is nice too).

I never thought of this before. And i welcome the idea.

Ah ok. Same situation. After S3D update, it should be easy to add that in also(maybe a little more difficult but not much). It will take a lot of work though, to do everything for all the different Conning towers.

Yes, that was what I meant. :haha:

Seeing as a lot of big stuff is waiting for proper tools, though, I'll refrain from posting my BIG idea...

As long as the S3D update has everything in it that I think is going to be in it, then you can count on it!:D And, even if it does not, I am pretty sure that it will still be possible through more complicated means, such as .dat file work arounds, or hex editing.:yep:

Uh oh, now I have to know what it is:D

Well I've been thinking of what could be done with a total conversion after some of the big projects get completed for the original game. SH4 kinda had a u-boat conversion in the form of the u-boat expansion, which later got modded into nearly the whole atlantic campaign, and we've seen the US pacific theatre in stock SH4.

I've always wanted to do an early cold war mod, with diesels and early nuke boats from the 50's and such (the tech wasn't all that much more sophisticated than the last days of WWII), but there had been some debate about if/how it could be pulled off, so then I thought of another idea in a different direction...

WWII from the Royal Navy's perspective! Not many know of the RN submarine campaigns because not much was publicised at the time, but the T, S and U classes conducted operations rivaling the U-boats throughout the war. And just imagine the feeling of getting a convoy in your sights in a T class and unloading a full 10 torpedo salvo on them!

This might probably sound incredably stupud, but what exaclt is S3D? and what kind of upgrade are we talking about? I know it has something to do with grafics and stuff but please fill me in completly.

S3D is a tool somewhat similar to Goblin that was made by Skwasjer. It can be used to add and edit controllers, 3D objects, and other things. He designed it for SH4 and then expanded it to work with SH3. Skwasjer is now in the process of expanding it to work with SH5. There are a lot of things that we already know how to do, but S3D could be used to do the same things in about 1/5 the time. Plus, S3D will help eliminate small errors that can sometimes arise when doing things manually.
