Can someone explain that to an ignorant Aussie? Why sack a coach when he's doen better than all the other losers you've had?

Oh well back to the drawing board on the predictins.:88) 2 and 2.:damn:

OK Cheezeheads to grill the Bears.
Jets to fly by the Steelers.

Superbowl?:hmmm:

Cheezeheads I reckon.:arrgh!:

Hard lines there August. As I always say when my sides get beaten in the finals. "There's always next year."

Between loudmouth Rex Ryan's Jets and the Sillers featuring Ben Rapelisberger, I'd go with the Jets.

Sorry, Aramike, but I'm also going with Da Bears over Green Bay.

Can't see the Bears beating the Pack. 35-24 against a 7-9 team :dead::dead: is one thing, but this week will be different for duh :yep: Bears.

Steelers\Jets will be a closer one, but I am taking the Steelers. Mainly because of their defense & experience, but their offense it not to shabby either.

Going with the Jets as well. Steelers go beat up against the Ravens. I give GB the win. Just seems to be GB year. Nice to see the Bears in the mix though.

I'd love to see a Jets - Packers 'bowl, but I'd settle for a Jets - Bears 'bowl, too. Aside from the New York Yankees of the NFL (read: Steelers), this year could be a good, blue-collar football Super Bowl.

The Jets, like their rhyming baseball counterparts, are very much the red-headed stepchildren of the New York sports scene.

Well I hope next year the Pats go all the way.

My tips for Championship Weekend.

Packers @ Bears. Packers to win by 10.
Jets @ Steelers. Steelers to win by 3.

Superbowl.

Packers - Steelers. Packers to win by 12

I think the Packers are playing the best football in the playoffs by a country mile. Now that my team are out, i would like to see them chesseheads go all the way.

I would have to agree.

I would have to agree.

I wouldn't. Both of their playoff opponents thus far have been defensively weak. Chicago is the opposite, so we'll have to see if the shakey Green Bay ground game can make some headway against the formidable Bears front 7. If they can, then they've got a pretty good shot. If not, it is going to be a long day for Packers fans. In any case, I'd take whoever is out of the AFC in the Superbowl. That conference is absolutely stacked, and right now, I think that Pittsburgh is playing the best football in the playoffs.

I think Chicago's mixed secondary balances off their front 7 somewhat. Rodgers gets rid of it quick and he is extremely accurate.

One thing not mentioned was Hester, he could be a difference maker for the Bears :yep:

One thing not mentioned was Hester, he could be a difference maker for the Bears :yep:

Yes, Rodgers is about the quick release, and he is accurate. However, if you come out and pass, pass, pass, pass against any team in the NFL, you're going to lose. They are going to need that ground game.

I am always conflicted over special teams. Yes, it is important to be solid in that department, but I have never really thought of championships being won and lost on them.

They will have a tough day on the ground for sure, but I like what GB has in that department compared to say mid-season when it looked just awful. I think they have just enough for it to matter and help set up their passing game.

For one game against a defense like the Bears I think their passing will carry the day. And mainly due to Chicago's secondary. GB has a lot of weapons as far as receivers, so it will be tough for Chicago to match up against this.

I think that Pittsburgh is playing the best football in the playoffs.

:hmmm: Yes, it was great playing as Roethelsberger fumbles the ball and everyone but one Ravens player sat there watching the ball roll around on the ground. Ball picked up and run in for a TD. Rattle Roethelsberger and you can win the game. He was sacked 5 times I believe. At half time Roethelsberger was on the ropes and out of rhythm. You can see in the second half were he said to himself mentally he can win this game. And he answered with two TD's. Then the final nail in the coffin TD to end the game. So, rattle the groping QB of Pittsburgh and the game can be won. Now, GB manhandled the Falcons. The Falcons had a great season. It was not an easy task for GB. GB won handedly. Personally on any given Sunday the best of the best can be beat like a drum. Seen it all to often. The Patriots are no slouches yet they went home empty handed. It is a toss up. However, I think it is GB year to win the game and the ring..... Besides, it would make some Canadians really happy. :DL

Have not talked about Green Bay's Defense. They sacked Matt Ryan 5 times, and although Chicago's O-Line has improved, it is still questionable at times :yep:

Will Cutler be able to stay upright, we'll see.....

A couple of counter-points:

1. Altanta's record is an illusion; they weren't that good. That 13-3 record included 2 wins against Carolina (2-14) 2 nailbiters against an overblown Tampa Bay squad, an overtime win against a Saints team that was exposed against the Seahawks, and wins over various NFL powerhouses like Arizona (5-11), San Fransisco (6-10), Cleveland (5-11), St. Louis (7-9), Seattle (7-9), and Cincinnati (4-12). That's 11 wins against against weak teams, largely due to the fact that the NFC South was matched up against the woeful NFC West this season. So, again, they weren't that good.

2. Philadelphia is my team, but they were much like Atlanta. This team lost to the pathetic Washington Redskins in week 4, barely squeaked out a win against Detroit in week 2, and got spanked by Tennesse (6-10). Of course, let's not forget about that disaster against the lowly Vikings and 3 quarters of crappy football against the fading New York Giants the week before. My birds just weren't that good either.

3. I think that this game will be decided on the ground. It is going to be cold and windy.

Green Bay Offense: 100.4 yds rushing per game (24th)
Chicago Rush Defense: 90.1 yds allowed per game (2nd)

Chicago Offense: 101 yds rushing per game (22nd)
Green Bay Rush Defense: 114.9 yds allowed per game (18th)

The differential between 2nd and 24th is a whole lot greater than that of 18th and 22nd. I think this will be more of a matchup of Jackson v. Forte than it will be Rodgers v Cutler. From that, I think you'd have to say advantage Bears.

EDIT: It certainly is a refreshing change to be arguing about something other than politics.

I have never found stats to be a good indicator of anything when it comes to football. I have found that on any given Sunday the best of the best of the best(sir!) can get their rear ends handed to them by the team on the bottom of the totem pole. There is much more to football than stats. There is homefield advantage, who is busted up and on the bench, who gets that lucky call from the ref and who has their head on straight when game day arrives. I find it hard to hang my hat on some numbers when there is a greater picture to look at. I sense a hunger in GB and it ain't for cheese. :DL

3. I think that this game will be decided on the ground. It is going to be cold and windy.I think that's a myth when it comes to the Packers at least. I remember the pundits saying the exact same thing when we played the Giants week 16, and that was a blowout with plenty in the air war department (over 400 yards). The Packers only run under two circumstances - you're giving it to them or they are just using it to keep you honest.

Some nice comparisons\stats for sure Tak :yep:

But I still think it comes down to a couple of things, one being the Rodgers factor, the guy cannot be ignored, & this overcomes their run game. Two, the momentum factor, they have it. Four straight wins, with the last two being pressure cookers on the road.

I have been waiting for them to get their first playoff win without Brent at the helm, now that they have, I think the sky is the limit for them.

Aramike
01-17-11, 06:37 PM
I don't know, that Pittsburgh secondary is pretty freaking scary. They had a middle of the road pass defense (maybe a little better than that - 12th in the league) going up against a top echelon passing team. They are good, but not that good.

Defensively, Pitt and GB are almost identical, GB only giving up 8 more points the entire season. Pitt and GB would be an interesting matchup to say the least.

If the Steelers lose, I'm happy. If the Jets lose, I'm... meh. There's a difference between not embracing another team and trash talking. No big deal. I think the latter just gets in the way of the game.

Trash talk is part of the game as well. Ask Muhammud Ali...his trash-talking and brash attitude provided much entertainment. Our trash talk does the same here. However, there is a line that should not be crossed. Most do not cross it. Some of the professionals playing the game not so much.

I just think it ramps up the bad feelings for no good reason. Take for example the Red Sox fan that got stabbed by a Yankees fan in Connecticut back in October, unlike political trash talk, the sports version can definitely be tied to violence.

I would agree 100%. When the Yankees come to Baltimore it is NEVER miniture bat night. The Raven's fans at the game can get quite ugly with the non-supporters. Some are just bad with anyone who happens to be standing around.

Conversely, when I used to work in the tourist area of Baltimore (Inner Harbor, on Torsk and the other ships), Yankees fans were always pretty polite to me, where Red Sox fans thought that Baltimore owed them some form of compensation, since we had a harbor with a "Const-" ship, too.

Packers @ Bears. Packers to win by 10.
Jets @ Steelers. Steelers to win by 3.

Superbowl.

Packers - Steelers. Packers to win by 12

I think the Packers are playing the best football in the playoffs by a country mile. Now that my team are out, i would like to see them chesseheads go all the way.

The Packers should be proud. They beat the number one defense in the league and one of the best quarterbacks the game has to offer. The Steelers are relentless in finding a way to win. I know...I have watched it to many times with the Ravens. The Packers were not playing that game with the Steelers. Even right up to the 2 point conversion the Steelers completed in the 4th quarter. I felt the Packers were hungry and scrappy enough to take it. Fantastic game and great right up to the last snap Rogers had taken to make the win official.
