Hey at least we'll get a great draft pick?
Losing isn't enough for the Texans. Finding the most creative and heart wrenching way to lose is what they excel at.

So nice that he just had to find a home on the Terriers. I drafted McCoy as a compliment to Jackson, who I figured was going to be my big producer. I was dead wrong; McCoy has been the stud this year. Didn't see that coming.

That seems to be more of an attempt for leverage in the new stadium deal. If the Browns haven't moved (again) by now, then I can't the the Vikes in danger. They did the same thing in Philly when negotiating for their new stadium, despite the fact that everybody knew that there was zero chance of the Eagles going anywhere.

Seriously, I'm about as much of a Colts fan as you can come without holding season tickets; I'll stick with them...but it's driving me bonkers watching our line get thrashed and Manning sailing passes straight to their D-backs every other play. :-?

Am very impressed with this young bunch, sure they get burned every now and again. But more often than not they have come up with a play when we have needed it so far this season.
They have far exceeded my pre season expectations.
You have got to hand it to Belichick, he has played the draft so well the last couple of years. Add to that, that the Pats have 2 first, 2 second and 2 third round picks in this coming draft.
It could not be to far fetched to think that this team could be the beginning of another Dynasty.

Has anyone heard anything about extending the season to 20 weeks?
I've heard that the brass is considering it, but I suppose that the player's union would oppose it due to the increased physical strain on the players. I can completely understand that position, as it will adversely effect their longevity as players. As a fan, I also oppose it for the same reason that I dislike the formats for baseball, hockey and basketball. The NFL formula is great due to the fact that the season has a very limited number of games. Thus, every game is important. In baseball, for example, a team and go on a 10-game slide and make that up later in the year. Do that in football and you're sitting at the bottom of the league. Increasing the number of games per regular season diminishes the importance of each one, and the games lose that kind of 'do or die' atmosphere that makes the NFL season so compelling.

I haven't been able to study the details all that much but apparently won't extend the season that much. From what I understand this involves getting rid of pre-season games, (actually turning them into regular season games), a 2nd bye week and an extended player roster to include 4th and 5th string squads.

Is that the idea of adopting the NCAA 'shoot-out' system?
mr chris

I heard it was that if you won the toss and only scored a field goal then the other team would then get a chance to score.
But if you scored a TD that would be game over.

That is correct. In 1994 they moved the kickoff location back from the 35 to the 30 yard line, and they now think teams that get the ball first have had an advantage in OT because of it. They aren't considering the NCAA OT rules because, well....they are ridiculous. :)
"The NFL owners voted to change an element in the overtime rule, giving a possession to the team that loses the coin toss at the start of OT if the team that wins the coin toss scores a field goal with its first possession.
The proposal passed 28-4. As it is written, the rules change applies just for the postseason, but the owners also decided to discuss adopting the changes for the regular season at their next meeting, in May in Dallas."

"The NFL owners voted to change an element in the overtime rule, giving a possession to the team that loses the coin toss at the start of OT if the team that wins the coin toss scores a field goal with its first possession. That actually sounds pretty good. Sudden death OT wasn't created with 50+ yard field goals in mind. It gives too much advantage to just winning a coin toss.

Yeah, it was really dumb not to put the ball in the hands of their stud RB, especially against Denver's 30th ranked rush defense. They would have had to know that their defense can't seem to stop Tebow (ridiculous that a rookie QB can be allowed to just run wild like that), so the answer has to be to slow the game down. Run the ball, control the clock and keep Denver's offense on the sidelines.

To be honest, I am scared of the Packers. Philly's offense is good; possibly the most explosive in the league. Still, I am not so sure that the defense can keep the Pack out of the end zone. I give this one 50-50. Green Bay is the one team I didn't want in the first round. And in the interest of fairness, I've never seen a more schizophrenic and fair weather bunch than Houston sports fans. Their complacency allows the team owners to field garbage teams (Rockets in the mid-90s excluded) and generally treat them like crap, and the fans here roll over and take it. Football trivia question.
Does a player have play for the winning team in the game itself to get a Superbowl ring or does just playing for the team at some point during the season also rate?
A couple of examples: When the Patriots win this year will Randy Moss get a ring?
If the Jets were to somehow win the Superbowl instead would Danny Woodhead still get a ring having played for them this season?
A guy at work swears this is true. I think he's full of it. You decide.

A guy at work swears this is true. I think he's full of it. You decide. It's up to the team - the NFL pays for a certain number of them (like 100 or so) and the team distributes them how they see fit. If the team wants more it can issue more but at their expense.
In the scenarios you describe, Moss and Woodhead won't be seeing rings - unless some nutty owner decides why the hell not... it would be unprecedented as far as I know.

I did not know this. Thought just the players\coaches, etc. on the team that year received these. And for the full year, not if they were traded or released.
The winning team can typically present rings to whomever they choose, including usually, but not limited to: players (active roster or injured), coaches, trainers, executives, personnel, and general staff. Some teams have also been known to give rings to former players, despite not having been on the winning roster.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_ring#cite_note-0) Teams can distribute any number of rings, but must pay for any over the 150-ring limit. From Wikipedia:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Bowl_ring

Yeah, that's going to be a good game. I've thrown my support in for Baltimore. After all, you guys have our old friend John Harbaugh.

A lot of trash talk already. It's nuts. The fans are frenzied. It is such an ugly rivilary that physical altercations outside and inside the stadium are a sure thing.

Haha had me in stitches.:har:
OK given the lack of my team being anywhere near the playoffs I'll fearlessly predict the outcomes for this weekend:
Steelers
Pats
Cheezheads
Seachickens
Best of luck to all:woot:

Couple of big drops for Baltimore: Boldin & Houshmandzadeh cost them
big-time. Especially Boldin, he is usually money.
By the way, go Packers!

Not favoring either team, that was a hell of a game to watch. Flacco's receivers let him down. Heap was the only guy who caught the ball for him.
Should have stuck with the Steelers. Watching the Cheeze v the Birds. Looks like being another close one.
Green Bay up by three touchdowns. Looks like January really is a bad month for birds! :DL

He is swinging from the rafters. :dead: That game was theirs to win. They let it go. Our receivers let Flacco down more that once. Our defense allowed two unanswered TD. The season come to a close for Baltimore.
What happened to the Falcons? GB spanked them good.
Today I'm pulling for the Jets. Sorry August. Next to the Steelers the Pats are my other most disliked team. :O:

Lol, that's why they call it "foot"ball. I guess Coach Belichick isn't looking too smart about benching Welker for much of the game. :shifty:
Oh, and the stupid Raiders fired the only coach to post a non-losing season in 8 years. :damn:
