View Full Version : Y'all prolly know: ENB Series

You guys probably know this already, but I haven't seen it mentioned on the forums: For eyecandy freaks, ENB Series works just spiffy with SH5.

IIRC I'm using an old version (GTA San Andreas beta v0.074g) with a custom palette and just bloom enabled.
NOTE: will conflict with DX9 lag patch (can't remember the name of it) as it overwrites d3d9.dll
NOTE2: Can be very CPU intensive and framerates can suffer. Mileage will vary.
You can download and play with it here: http://enbdev.com/download_en.htm

NVIDIA users can do the same like the lag fix, i.e. set the number of pre-rendered frames, even in the graphic card driver configuration. ATI users probably also with their drivers but I do not know.

You'd have to use ATI Tray tools IIRC to expose the prerender ahead settings.
ENB sure does look good and doesn't significantly hit my systems FPS (amd965BE, hd5770 1GB, 4GB DDR3) -- really nice bloom effects.
But it looks like some of this can be replicated through the config files -- might take a look later.
BTW does anyone know where the night sky is stored (the star map) -- that really could do with some work!

Just noticed that with ENB series activated, my GPU usage drops significantly with the profile I'm using! This is kinda unheard of with ENB.
CCC was showing 85-98% usage on a 1 GB hd5770 @ full settings 1680 x 1050
This dropped to between 50-60% when I enabled ENB.
Tested exterior and interior several times. But, it appears that frame rate suffers with ENB it which seems counterintuitive if the GPU isn't taxed as much...:06::-?
My guess is the DLL offloads to the CPU, but maybe someone who knows what they talking about (unlike me) could confirm this? Or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me and there is no drop in framerate.
I can only eyeball the framerate at the moment. Does SH5 have a built in frame rate counter? If there's a FPS counter I'll test it and see if there's a benefit to having this installed :)
Thanks

Many thanks.

Quick test results -- ENB does indeed drop the framerate.
WITHOUT: I have a steady 18fps with all settings maxed at 80-100% GPU usage.
WITH: I have a steady 14 fps at 50-60% GPU usage but increased CPU.
This may mean that if you GPU is running hot or can't quite handle things but your CPU is not really doing that much work, you may see a benefit.
Or you may not :O:
The plus side is that lights actually look like their illuminating -- the bloom is wonderful on the sub interior
Just thought I'd let everyone know. :D

It may look ok on the inside of the sub, but in the pen (at least from your screenshots) it looks foggy and blurry.
Meh...

@ Tonschk:
This is the specific version I use: http://www.mediafire.com/?ucjbtand6qbcp8k.
If you already have a copy of d3d9.dll in your SH5 directory, back it up first!!! Probably means you're using the antilag fix.
Then just extract the three files into the SH5 root directory (../ubisoft/silent hunter 5/)
You should be good to go ... unless you're missing a few extra dlls. If you're missing these dlls, then you should get a render error on launch which will tell you which dll you're missing. Most likely it'll be one of the two that you mentioned. (d3d9_26 or d3d9_40).
If you're missing either one, just download it from the ENB site (http://enbdev.com/download_en.htm) and place it in the same root directory (../ubisoft/silent hunter 5/).
Make sure you download from the ENB site -- the dlls are clean.
Now the game should run. When it loads you'll see a verification text in the top left corner of the screen showing that it's running.
To toggle ENB on and off press SHIFT+F12.
To change the settings, edit ENB ini to your preference. To change the colour cast, edit the pallete bitmap with your favourite image editor. For full instructions see the ENB site.
@mookiemookie:
The screenshots don't entirely do it justice, but it is a matter of preference. I like the effects but there are plenty who don't. It's entirely down to you if you use it. It's not my mod so I'm just letting everyone know that it's out there if they choose to use it.
Personally I'd say put it in and have a look. And if you don't like it, pitch it out.
One nice thing though, is that it'll work in just about any DX9 game -- so even if you don't want it for SH5, maybe you'll see a use for it elsewhere?

Thank you :DL Paris_England :yeah:, I need to try this mod , thank you again
Actually I have .... d3d9.dll .... in my SH5 directory, can you tell me please , what I need to do with the already existing antilag d3d9.dll in the SH5 directory, probably is a conflict between them ?
I already download this ... http://www.mediafire.com/?ucjbtand6qbcp8k .. and have the same name as the antilag d3d9.dll already existing in the SH5 directory

Hi tonschk,
If you already have a d3d9.dll in your SH5 directory it's most likely from the antilag mod.
Make sure you back up this file -- It conflicts with ENB series.
What I'd suggest is just rename the DLL that's already in there and pop in the ENB files to see if you like the effects. Play the game a while and toggle ENB on/off with SHIFT+F12.
If you don't like it then delete the three files and rename the original dxd9.dll back so you get the antilag benefits.
If you like the effect of ENB then you'll have to download and use RIVATUNER (for Nvidia graphic cards) or ATI Tray Tools (for ATI cards) to adjust the maxRenderAhead of your video card. I think you want to set the Frames to Prerender to 1 or 2 to get the same benefits as the antilag mod.
Maybe someone can clarify that -- I don't use the antilag mod, so I'm not 100% sure.
