Hi everyone, long time no see.

I recently bought SH5 . I wasn't impressed.

On the upside it has inspired me to play SH3 again! I used to have the GWX 3 mod. I really like the look of the ship mod that comes out which I understand is fully compatable with GWX supermod. I also liked the captain handbook/log add-on (cant remember what its called) which allowed you to manage your crew outside the game.

I haven't played for so long - please can someone recommend a set of mods and patches that will work well together and up the realism? This is over a clean install of SH3.

Thanks!

Well I'd obviously recommend installing GWX3.0 again.

Below is a screenshot of my sons installation dated Dec 09 so some of those on view may have newer updates:

also, one thing always bugged me - when you have the gun deck turned on to a merchant, will it take a certain number of shots to sink the ship or can you fire several shots and wait for the ship to burn? Same with torpedoes - just because a torpedo or a shell doesnt sink the ship immediately, does that mean the ship won't sink unless you fire another torpedo/more shells? Thanks

If you hit the sweet spot with the deck gun "BOOM" but I must stress its not easy, only happen the once with me. Your known when you done the job in sending the ship to the bottom.

This may be a good place to start

Also, I would strongly recommend that you get SH3 Commander, regardless of what mods you end up using.

If you run Commander with GWX don't forget to get the compatibility files

If your safe from air or warship attack early in the war, try to find a merchant sailing alone, surface and hit her just below the waterline ensuring every compartment is hit and you should see her sink very gradually.

It's a risky test (in GWX3.0) but one well worth experiencing.

I wait and watch for a while, then just as I get impatient, line up the shot, flood the tube and fire... before the eel is out the tube I get the message it's going down! :nope::damn:

I wouldnt presume to tell you what mods to try. What one person may treasure another disdains.

You couldn't go wrong with just starting off with GWX Gold Supermod which is basically a compliation of many of the best mods orchestrated into a fine rework of the SHIII sim.

It comes with a host of optional mods that can be applied (and more importantly removed) on top of the basic GWX mod.

Then there are many enhancement mods that work with and complement GWX Gold. You should perhaps read the associated threads to determine if they appeal to you and any related info about possible mishaps....'cause Murphy's Law is always in effect.

GWX is probabaly the most widely used supermod but don't ignore the other supermods. Many like those too but of course require seperate installations in order to work.

thanks everyone. i have a problem though on installing the GWX 3.0 Gold, I have eror messages saying the source files it is trying to copy are corrupt mainly in the "c:\progra..\ubi..\terrain folder. all the files containing data for the ports seems to be corupt. I have done clean installs but the mod still has this issue. any ideas?
