Is there any way I can get a higher resolution, such as 1680 1050 without using one of the widescreen mods? Thanks!

Conus's SH3GWX mod works very well at 1380x768 but does not scale upwards. I've recently been running LSHv5 at 1920x1200 and apart from some visual problems at the bottom of the binoc's and periscope its wonderful - they have even managed to scale the planning map.

One other point to watch out for is that many of the standard mods such as FM Interior cause problems on the higher resolutions but since LSHv5 is already full of great mods anyway its no problem.

(I suggest you get LSHv5 via maikhaas ftp server since I've found the standard path unreliable)

However if you mean the game screen res then yes you can by editing your Cfg folder

This is useless, resolutions above 1024x768 entered here will be completely ignored by SH III, because 1024x768 is the hardcoded border for maximum resolution of SHIII.

This limit can be exceeded with the Fix HighResFix.
Disadvantage: it is not really high-res, the entire screen is just has scaled up and with widescreen 16:10/9 resolutions such as 1680x1050, round objects such as gauges are oval

Second option is one of the Widescreen Mods.
Advantage: 3D world is really high-res and displayed in widescreen resolution.
Disadvantage: the widescreen mods are created for a particular resolution, because all 2D objects have to be repositioned through the mod. This is an enormous work for the modder if he wants to create his mod for several resolutions.
