View Full Version : New Gui Mods are all great, but All are missing an important function for me
After going through (I think) about every Gui/supermod on the list, they are all great and various ones have some great features. Call me lazy or inept, but I just can't get the hang of manual targeting after honestly trying on three seperate periods of nearly a week. While many call that a learning curve, its reached a point where its starting to detract from the fun (even after shortly restarting playing all the pain of doing it before surfaced). A game can be difficult, and fun at the same time; what it shouldn't be is difficult and create stress.
All the GUI's managed to disable the one function that I need: The Weapons's Officer and his ability to plot a solution on the locked target. Since they somehow got disabled, logic would dictate that they can be re-activated. The two that I've enjoyed the most are the OLC 'Gold' MkIIc and ACM Reloaded for OLC 'Gold' MkII. I tend to side towards the OLC 'Gold' MkIIc as it seriously smoothes the game out and get some really nice framerates out of it. Both have the best manual targeting apparatus around so I can take my time to learn, didn't have 5 or so years as a u-boot recruit to take command of my boat to hone my skills (granted later in the war training periods did get drastically reduced to almost nothing).
Can someone please post or pm on how to re-enable this function (preferably in the OlC Gold MKIIc version, but hey beggers can't be choosers) so I can start wreaking havoc on the English again, working on tactics and infiltrating Gibraltor & Scapa Flow to blow up the Brit's nice big ships in their own backyard :|\\ while working on manual targeting at my own pace. Seems that there's one person with the integrated commands all re-enabled, as you can see http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/940/sh3img95201017820399.png From the massive mod screenshot thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170090
Thanks,
Sarah
P.S. Not to sound ungrateful, but in the OLC MkIId the zoom function seems to be broken. It's unclear in the changelog whether its been changed to always be at max magnification or if the change is just that the zoom is instant.
P.P.S I tried to RTFM any documents or threads I could find on this matter, all I could come up with were some threads discussing why the modder decided to leave it out, then says that in an appendix it'll show how to re-enable; but the appendix is missing! Or possibly the file got eaten from the download server?
I'm pretty sure ACM reloaded came with an optional mod to re-enable the Weapons Officer target assist.
EDIT: Yep. I've just checked. It does. :yep:
When you unzip the file, there is an optional mods folder. It's in there.
One road block after another, after applying the patches per the order on http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155366&highlight=acm+reloaded I keep getting a "Menu ID not found: 0x3f300001!" when I try to load a game. :damn:
Have tried both the older 1.15h.sie file and the other one available from the website. Neither seem to work and after uninstalling all mods and enabling just what I need one by one in order to get it working.
If anyone's ran into this error, or know of another solution to this mod or the other one mentioned I'm all ears. Otherwise later after I take care of some things it'll be trial by fire and uninstall everything and leave no traces behind.
Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Tessa, I'm unable to recreate your problem... Just to make sure, let me repeat that there are 3 ACM's out there:
1. Mikhayl's original (Standalone)
2. My "update" Reloaded version for OLC (requires OLC)
3. Hsie's version based on mine (Standalone)
The item that's causing problems for you is this:
[G3F I261]
Name=Fuel level
Type=1031;Stat bmp array
ItemID=0x3F300001
I've just redwnloaded both OLC and my ACM and they work fine. Could you please post a list of your mods? Could you also check that there's no duplicates of the menu_1024.ini and dials.cfg files? By duplicates I mean any file that has the same name up to a point, including the extension (dials.cfg.bak, dials backup.cfg and so on).
Sergei, are you talking about Hsie's version? I don't recall my version having an optional folder :D
I haven't updated "my" version in a long time. As I have repeatedly stated, my contribution was very slim, just a repackage of Mikhayl's amazing work. After finishing it I moved to SH4 and made KiUB. I kept fixing bugs in ACM but once Flakmomkey's interior mod, Hsie's interface and MaGui came out, I simply made sure there were no bugs and practically abandoned it. I'm using MaGui v3.3 now, it has too many cool stuff to miss. Plus it looks amazing. And I'm sure Makman94 could put in an optional fix with the officer solution.

Don't feel alone. I've been playing the game since its release five years ago, and I've never gotten any better at manual targeting. I don't like any of the GUI mods because of the clutter they put on the screen. I go the opposite route - I use a mod that removes everything from the screen and all the HUD stuff are slide-outs, so they're only there when I want them.
Before any of the 'new' GUI mods there was this one. It might be what you're looking for.

I don't use it anymore, as I still couldn't get it right, but this one lets you keep WE Assistance and the Notepad.
Didn't realise there were 3 versions. :oops:
I have been using hsie's edition.

It's very good, and is the one that comes with a load of optional mods, including re-enabling the WEPS firing solution.
The optional little mod to re-enable the WP Firing solution only works in conjunction with "my" (it's not mine) version of ACM GUI

For probably any of the GUI mods, you can make a change to the "Commands_en" file. Disable Cmd21 by placing a semi-colon in front of the Key0=0x54,,"T" line, like this:
;Key0=0x54,,"T"
Then paste the same line (minus the semi-colon) either to Cmd344 or Cmd346 ... I forget which. Test it by calling up the TDC panel, lock a target, and press the "t" key. If the dials move, you've made the correct change. If not, paste the line to the other Cmd line and try again.

Have you checked on the *use WO option in the actual game?
Ive used all the mentioned gui's from olc first and last gold mk2d which olc recomended that weapon officer was checked on for id purposes and ive left it checked on since that was like 3 years ago...
Have run ACM and currently running h.sie 1.5 all excellent and all run with the weapon off that I use to id ships however must say I do manual target so not sure if the Weapon off still gives out the magic formula's...
Check ya in game sh3 menu and make sure its checked to use weapon off!

I was only aware of 2 different versions :haha: Because of that file missing error decided to reinstall everything fresh. This time I got it working, so far I've got the following mods (and activated in this order)
SH3Commander
GWX SH3Commander Special Patch
OLC Gold MkIIc update
OLC Gold MkIId Update
ACM-GUI Reloaded h.sie's Edition V 1.15
ACM-GUI Show WP Firing Solution Icon
The one that I installed was "ACM Reloaded for OLC 'Gold' MkII" and was unable to get it to work. Then also tried "ACM GUI Reloaded - h.sie's Edition V1.15" and finally "hsGUI v3.1" At some point that file must've gotten corrupted as it's not one of the files I normally use to mod with (worked to fixed some renown problems and add more ranks for SH Commander, was working on a way to use tonnage to replace renown for awarding medals but got cut off before being able to find the missing link).
Thanks for everyone's outpour of support, its a shame that there isn't a sticky for the Gui's. Trying to find the info on how ACM integrated with OLC wasn't easy to find, and with 3 different versions confusing. Only Vice I've found so far is that the torpedo depth can't be set to lower than 2.5 meters.
i am here now for 2 years and I am still am confused about the variety of mods :DL

Yes, the zoom is fixed (unchangeable) on purpose.
Sorry for the lack of an "M" - there used to be one, but nobody "FR" it, so I stopped updating it and deleted it.
Munchausen's recommendation is likely the easiest method of getting the WE targetting function back in OLC Gold (provided you don't mind having to press a key for it).

Everything's all good now with everyone's help. Thanks for verifying the periscope zoom. Not sure what/how people were exploting or otherwise using the zoom to their benefit; for me its always been beneficial at various times. If I'm sitting in the between the 2nd and 3rd column of a convoy (get there well ahead of time and let them pass over me) being able to zoom in and out is a must. Since everything was having so many problems wanted to make sure on that aspect so I didn't feel like I was loosing it :dead:
Before I had to abruptly stop playing for a prolonged period I remember the OLC was just the scope itself and everything was left intact. Long as I know what keys/buttons are needed I was never so lazy I made macros to automate some of the trivial tasks.
