Would anyone be interested in making a more realistic deck texture? Fresh out of the shipyard the deck was black, somewhat glossy and didn't have nearly as many holes as in stock:

Doing the color, and getting it shiny would be relatively easy, But I don't know if you can just get rid of the holes.

. For the sheet metals to look more "glossy", you will (unfortunately) have to have access to the *.gr2 file of the submarine hull. Those kind of parameters are exported directly from 3dstudiomax into the .gr2 file.

I think a bit of glossy is necessary because overall speaking the deck of the sub was wet , and the stock hull looks dry , the side rails on this photo have reflection on the hull`s wet surface

Well that should be easy as the holes are just part of the texture image, all it would take is for a skilled artist to make a new one.

So do we have a volunteer??? :o

As a side note, redoing the deck to be more realistic would also make the water rolling off the deck more plausible; with the stock planks you'd figure all the water would just go through the deck instead of over the side...

Actually no, to get a surface shine, I am thinking that all you need to do is work with the texture itself. The game uses textures in a wide range of opacities I have found, and if something comes stock as a high transparency image (which the decks do) it can easily be set to a higher opacity. The affect this has in game looks like glass or polished metal(this is actually how the game does the glass for some of the dials). At certain angles you will see a lot of reflected light and at others there will not be so much reflection. I found this stuff out while working on my interior mod.

The only thing that I am not certain about is that doing it the .gr2 route may look a bit better. Anyway, I don't actually have time to take this on right now(between real life and working on improving my interior mod), I just figured I would tell everyone what I knew about it.

Fair enough; is anyone else willing to tackle this project?

I had a look at what part of the dds file fits on what part of the deck .

Looks like the holes in the deck are being rendered with not only the deck texture, but also an occlusion map.
