v2.6.0 Latest and last version
This is the JonesSoft Generic Mod Enabler, a vital program for installing and running mods for virtually any game. It lets you install with the click of a switch, warns you of potential conflicts and uninstall them again if you don't like them..
Changes:
- Added: drag & drop from other processes (ie Windows Explorer, Desktop) now enabled under Microsoft Vista/Windows 7
- Added: now detects changes to MODS folder contents and refreshes screen automatically
- Changed: display font now defaults to user's desktop (icon) font
- Changed: improved handling of -remove directive
- Changed: improved handling of mod-added folders
- Changed: numerous (minor) interface modifications
- Changed: further optimised for use with Microsoft Vista/Windows 7
A minor update, but one that includes a number of improvements and enhancements.
The changes are fairly self explanatory.
I RECOMMEND THAT ALL JSGME USERS UPDATE TO THIS LATEST VERSION! There are no benefits running an earlier version of JSGME.
INSTALLATION
JSGME can be installed one of two ways:
==1. CENTRAL INSTALLATION==
You can install the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME) to a central location and point it to each of your games through creating shortcuts. To do this:
install JSGME to a central location (for example, “C:\Games\Generic Mod Enabler”). Keep the “Create a desktop icon” option selected in the installer
once installed, DO NOT RUN! Copy and paste the newly created JSGME desktop shortcut as many times as you have games and change the “Start in” folder of each shortcut to point to each game’s base folder. To change the “Start in” folder, right-click the shortcut, select “Properties” and then the “Shortcut” tab.
rename each shortcut to something meaningful, such as “JSGME - GameName1”, “JSGME - GameName2”, “JSGME - GameName3” and so on. To rename a shortcut, simply right-click the shortcut and select “Rename”
Using JSGME with subsequently installed games is simply a matter of copying, pasting and editing an existing shortcut (steps 2 and 3 above). And whenever JSGME is updated, you only need to install it once.
==2. SEPARATE INSTALLATION==
If you prefer, you can install separate copies of JSGME into each of your games. To do this, simply install JSGME to the base folder of the game that you would like to mod. The base folder usually contains the game’s main executable file and usually has a name unique to the game. If in doubt, consult the game’s online community. If you keep the “Create a desktop icon” option selected, the installer will add a uniquely named shortcut to your desktop.
Language Packs
If you use a language pack, please download the updated version from http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com (http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com/). Note that some packs have not yet been updated with new translations - new versions will be uploaded as soon as possible.
As always, please feel free to announce in other game forums...
AND REMEMBER - THE JSGME USER GUIDE (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=3814) IS YOUR FRIEND!
NB: This will be the last update for a few months. The next update will hopefully include:
- ability to build a new mod from different files (identified through compare)
- ability to remove folders
- ability to auto-disable subsequent mods when trying to disable a "greyed out" mod
- improved snapshot and compare features
- notification when files can't be copied because they are open/locked (which beckons a reminder in the meantime - when enabling/disabling mods, please make sure that all affected files are closed before doing so, just like you would with any other copy or move operation)

Just a gentle reminder, I get a LOT of PMs and emails from players seeking support on specific mods for specific games.
I can only provide support for setting up and using JSGME. I do not, and cannot, explain what "Mark's Carby Tweaks" mod does, why "BFNMPP v1.3" keeps crashing your game with error 0x0e890a57 after you press the F7 key, or which folders within a mod you need to enable to get the three dials option instead of the two. You need to direct those types of questions to the mod author.
Also, if your game suddenly starts crashing after installing a mod, DISABLE THE MOD, then ensure that you have the mod folder structure correctly set as per the JSGME User Guide (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/documentation/JSGMEUG.pdf) and the mod author's instructions (particularly the latter). If everything is in order and your problem persists when you re-enable the mod, you will need to consult the mod author directly as your problem will most likely be either with that mod, or your combination of enabled mods.
Following the above will most likely see you up and running much quicker than waiting for upwards of 24 hours for me to essentially tell you to consult the mod author.
It will also help free me up to focus on feature requests, bug reports, questions surrounding User Guide contents and other JSGME-related questions.

Install mods to the folder MODS inside the game folder. They will then appear when you click on the JSGME icon, and you can activate them.

What was the name of the FM Interior mod? By that I mean what did the label say? Was it by chance FMNewInteriors.zip? If that was the case then you still need to install 7zip and take it out of the zipped folder.
To be sure double-click on the mod and see what happens.
Another possible question is, did you open up JSGME itself and activate the mod?
Just wanted to say this program is a life-saver! I know it says "Generic" but I never used it with anything other than the Silent Hunter series. Well, it's been a real treat using it with FSX too. :yeah:

Yes it is the FMNewInteriors V1.0 and I opened the icon from the desktop and activated from there . I downloaded 7zip , Now what i can do to the files please ?
1. Open the zipped file.
2. Move the files inside to the MODS folder in the SH3 folder.
3. Double-check that it is JSGME-ready by opening the <Mod Name> folder. The next folder inside should be the Data folder, and the ones inside that should be the the folders leading to the different sections of the game. All you are really doing here is making sure there isn't another of the same folder - Data/Data/Sound, or Data/Sound/Sound. It's not as complicated as it sounds when I write it out.
4. Close the folders and double-click on the JSGME icon on the desktop. In the left field you will see the names of mods waiting to be activated. Click on one you think you want and then click the Arrow button to move it to the Activated side.
5. Start SH3 and select one of the Acadamy Training Missions, and see if it worked!
I know that probably sounds like I think you're a total idiot, but sometimes I surprise myself with some little thing I missed, so I try to cover all the bases. If you have any trouble at all, let me know. I'll do what I can to help.

Just FYI, a new version of JSGME will be forthcoming in the next week or two. The new version will include the following:
- Fixed: now correctly disables mods that have [ as the first character in the mod name
- Added: new enhanced game file compare feature
- Added: now displays a prompt if JSGME cannot enable or disable mod files (ie because they are open)
- Changed: snapshot/compare feature now based on MD5 sums, not date stamps

It looks good from where I sit. I'm not sure why at this point it would not show up. I hope somebody else reading this has some idea of what the problem might be, because at this point I sure don't.

How new are the copies you own? SH3 and SH4 are older now, so if you just bought them they should already be fully patched.
SH5 is still brand-new, so you will need the 1.2 patch to get the latest updates.
JSGME doesn't care about that, just in case that was what you meant.

Looks like you have the mods folder and JSGME in your My Documents and they should be in your c:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunter x\ folder or wherever you installed the game. JSGME tells you what directory it is running from in that screenshot.

Added: now displays a prompt if JSGME cannot enable or disable mod files (ie because they are open)
I might have to reverse this. Historically I have used the rawest, lowest level system functions to copy and move files. To implement this feature, I have had to use higher level wrappers (which add overhead such as checking whether the file/folder is open and showing a "Try again" message box if it is)...which has resulting is a massive performance decrease. Mods that currently take 1 second to enable now can take 40 seconds, all so that JSGME can trap the situation when users have files open.
Given the unlikelihood that you will have mod or game files open (unless you are a modder), then I don't think this enhancement is worth the performance hit. Thus I will rollback this particular change and remind all users (direct from the User Guide):
Make sure you close all mod and game files before enabling or disabling mods. Not doing so may result in integrity problems and possible game corruption as locked files are ignored by JSGME.

Hello, installed it twice (both ways) and the mods are not working. The installation is very simple, even I can do that, but it doesn´t seems to work  . Theres is no "double folder error". Any ideas how to fix it?
Edit: Now I´m puzzled: did a test and RemoveLogoIntroTheDarkWraith works just fine; MightyFine Less Annoying Footsteps 1.0, Critical hits for torpedos and Better and realistic flotation don´t. Intriguing...
Make sure that the mods you put into the MODS folder are structured like this:
Mod_Name
data
....
and not like this:
MODS
Mod_Name
data
....
So the very first subfolder in a mod should be always the "data" folder.

Nerve mind, figure it out....
Well this is just weird. I use JSGME with both SH3 and SH4. That means two instances of JGSME, one in each game's folder.
Because I recently replaced Windows XP with Windows 7, I made new shortcuts to both JSGME instances on my Windows 7 desktop. The one that resides with SH3 is fine. The one that resides with SH4 doesn't show an icon - only the generic "missing icon" picture, like the one in the middle here:
http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRbTAQ6NgN9AF_v5TKlAN9coc22UEbWm Tt2iutzXWRTZDwunu9i&t=1
(Note that I do NOT have JSGME pinned to the taskbar, but this was the first example of the "missing icon" symbol I found online.)
The weird thing is that if I click on the JSGME shortcut properties, it shows the correct icon. Likewise, if I browse to the SH4 install folder in Explorer, JSGME.exe has the correct icon.
What's going on here?

This happens not only with JSGME, I once had several programs have lost the normal icons. This issue is within Win7. I can not say it because I did not have time to deal with this and this situation has me very worried.

Yep. We were using it for SH3 five years before SH5 was released. The 'G' stands for 'Generic'. It wasn't made for Silent Hunter at all.

JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME) v2.5 is now available from http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com (http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com/) or via JSGME's Update feature.
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/screenshots/JSGME.png
==1. CENTRAL INSTALLATION==
You can install the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler (JSGME) to a central location and point it to each of your games through creating shortcuts. To do this:
install JSGME to a central location (for example, ***8220;C:\Games\Generic Mod Enabler***8221;). Keep the ***8220;Create a desktop icon***8221; option selected in the installer
once installed, DO NOT RUN! Copy and paste the newly created JSGME desktop shortcut as many times as you have games and change the ***8220;Start in***8221; folder of each shortcut to point to each game***8217;s base folder. To change the ***8220;Start in***8221; folder, right-click the shortcut, select ***8220;Properties***8221; and then the ***8220;Shortcut***8221; tab.
rename each shortcut to something meaningful, such as ***8220;JSGME - GameName1***8221;, ***8220;JSGME - GameName2***8221;, ***8220;JSGME - GameName3***8221; and so on. To rename a shortcut, simply right-click the shortcut and select ***8220;Rename***8221;
Using JSGME with subsequently installed games is simply a matter of copying, pasting and editing an existing shortcut (steps 2 and 3 above). And whenever JSGME is updated, you only need to install it once.
==2. SEPARATE INSTALLATION==
If you prefer, you can install separate copies of JSGME into each of your games. To do this, simply install JSGME to the base folder of the game that you would like to mod. The base folder usually contains the game***8217;s main executable file and usually has a name unique to the game. If in doubt, consult the game***8217;s online community. If you keep the ***8220;Create a desktop icon***8221; option selected, the installer will add a uniquely named shortcut to your desktop.

If you use a language pack, please download the updated version from http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com (http://jonesoft.jaennahre.com/). Note that some packs have not yet been updated with new translations - new versions will be uploaded as soon as possible.
As always, please feel free to announce in other game forums...
AND REMEMBER - THE ONLINE USER GUIDE (http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/documentation/JSGMEUG.pdf) IS YOUR FRIEND!
Sorry, I don't understand anything.... what does ***8220 means? or ***8217? Is any way to explain for beginners how to do? Grrrmmmmm!!

***8220 means that the quote in the post got corrupted. It happens when certain things are copied that don't translate into the code the forum uses. Whenever I quote something I go back and fix those. Obviously not everyone bothers to do that.
It has nothing to do with games or mods at all.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. It still works perfectly well for me. It may be that the folder you're asking it to open is corrupted somehow.

The gamefront link is not at post 67. would you like to merge the gamefront link to that post?
Not trying to offend anyone but should this topic not be unsticky'd?
It's a 2 year old topic with dead links, and its the old version of JSGME, lots of people are misguided by the title, i was gone for a while and fell for it like a fly falls for sh.., well you know what a fly likes.
Maybe just a topic with the link to 2.6? Or just post 67 and close it?
What ever happened to this mod and it's creator?

If you've used JSGME to enable mods for SH3, then the procedure would be exactly the same for SH5. If it's still unclear, this video may be of assistance:

No. It'll work with it, or without it. GWX is an all-in-one megamod which comes with its own installer. If you do choose to use it, you can always add additional mods via JSGME. :sunny:

Hi
I have downloaded JSGME 2.6, the downloaded file is a zipped file, i unzipped it and it showed a folder with all the JSGME files including the the JSGME.exe file. however i activate the mods using their instructions and i open the game but it doesnt actually work. none of the mods show up on the game.
I've checked tutorials that say JSGME must be installed, but their is no setup file in the JSGME folder that i downloaded, and i searched for it with no success.
Basically, I dont know how to link the JSGME.exe file to SH5 for the mods to work.

Disable all your mods for SH5, wherever they may be. Place the JSGME.exe in your main SH5 folder. Now run JSGME.exe. A newly created folder called MODS, and subfolders under MODS will be created within SH5. Now move all your SH5 mods into the newly created MODS folder. Activate the mods you want using JSGME and the mods should show up in the game.

Forgive me, but I am not a PC guru. I don't understand the lingo to install this mods program and let alone run it. The instructions are beyond my level of PC expertise.
*********************************
==1. CENTRAL INSTALLATION==
==2. SEPARATE INSTALLATION==
************* NONE OF THIS MAKES SENSE TO ME!!!!
I intend to utilize this for my SH5, and I have the current version!

Steel vikings mod comes in 2 parts.
Main mod + Mod patch
https://s17.postimg.org/vnehfwfcv/Steel_viking_Mod_Patch.jpg
You need to open each zip file and extract to the JSGME MODS folder in your Silent Hunter 5 main game folder.
The patch is enabled behind the main mod which it will then overwrite it.

Hello, just a suggestion even if this is 2018 and the latest version was 2010.
I use Jsgme with other games, and they usually not have a lot of folders unlike in sh3 which has all of them, like this when several mods adds the same folders the program detects conflicts and greys out the 'overwrited' mod even if it is just a folder conflict, which is a pain if i need to disable a mod on the top of the list to update it, i need to disable a lot of other mods first update and then enable them all again.
So a version without folder conflicts would made this the perfect mod organizer for me. Just don't remove the folder if there is files in it and thats it, maybe thick an option if the user wants folder conflicts or not?.
Thanks.

Nicolas, your message is 2 years old but having just seen it, I'll reply as JGSME is still the gold standard in this forum & subsim gaming. JGSME is OK for mod isolation, GREAT for load order management. It does nothing for conflict visualisation and conflict resolution. There are quite a few software packages that can do this for you, here is a short list: https://github.com/ModOrganizer2/modorganizer/wiki/Mod-Managers-Comparison
One such software I am aware and have personally used is Mod Organiser and here are the sites for it: https://www.modorganizer.org and https://github.com/ModOrganizer2/modorganizer
Just to be clear I have no affiliation with them I'm just a happy MO user - it is open source free software anyway.
I am also a happy JGSME user by the way, nothing wrong with JGSME, both good tools in the same domain with different feature set.
Mod Organizer is originally created for Bethesda Games (Elder Scrolls series/Oblivion, Fallout, Skyrim etc.) they only recently started adding built-in explicit support for other games however I have been using it for years by jumping hoops such as creating a blank text file and renaming it Oblivion.exe and OblivionLauncher.exe (so MO thinks it is managing Oblivion and works OK). If you want support on it, create a thread and PM me to let me know the thread URL and I will help you out set up MO to manage SilentHunter or any other game really.
To give you an idea here is two 'mod conflict' screenshot examples. We have two tiny (Silent Hunter 4) mods here, both overwriting the same "Commands.cfg" file where key bindings are configured.
In one screenshot one of them is on top thus the bottom one (that gets added later in execution) overwrites it.
In the other screenshot I drag & dropped to change order so the other one gets overwritten.
https://i.imgur.com/2gQ9lUd.png
https://i.imgur.com/q1hVoEN.png
Obviously load order changing alone can work sometimes. At other times it is not very helpful (you can do that in JGSME anyway), in MO however you can see what exactly is being overwritten which makes it easier to manually handle the conflict. Here is some more info if you're interested:
Basic https://stepmodifications.org/wiki/Guide:Mod_Organizer
Advanced https://stepmodifications.org/wiki/Guide:Mod_Organizer_Advanced
There might be better (newer) ones also, I've seen some on Reddit but personally haven't tried them out. Good luck!
