At Rein1705`s request I dediced to make the Red October playable. I am planning to make her for 1.5 and FOTRS. I made her bigger and changed her engines layout.

A suggestion only... would be nice to have some advanced torpedoes like the ones on the Ohio SSBN mod or the Cruise missiles :up:

What kind of emblem are we talking about. Also a number on the sail or hull is pointless as the Red October didn`t have any numbers.

OH... guess your right. I don't know that much about markings on Russian subs and Red October was a Modified Typhoon class is pretty much all i know. I have the movie. I thought they made it too deaf and helpless but it was great. As for an emblem i dont kno

Got the torpedo ready. Here`s a couple of pictures:

Yeah she is. Around 198 meters long, 26 meters wide and almost 50000 tons. She`s as big as an old battleship in physicle size and almost as heavy as the Bismark.

Hi, thanx for the mod. I thought I would try it out. I disabled my regular mods and only have GFO with Websters clear water mod.
I cannot get it to dive, I tried crash dive & periscope depths but it just stays on the surface. Any ideas what I need to do?

Or you can change the submerged displacement, i changed it and the red october dives in about 40 seconds.

yeah for a sub that big, i think they'd have many portholes for flooding tanks to get her sinking quick. that big shes a massive target for aircraft just at periscope depth.

Don't have to worry too much about aircraft up there.:yep:

Ok, it took roughly 30min to get to periscope depth.
Could somebody please instruct me as to how I can change displacement or whatever, so that i can dive faster?

Go into the units .sim file and you want the unit_submarine node and sub-node. In the Property Tree of the unit_submarine sub-node go down to Ballast and adjust the flood rate to your liking.

Only problem with these large modern boats is we can't take them in shallow waters, their conning tower sticks out of the water at persicop depth. lol. The Ohio class is the same. I would love to take them into Tokyo bay and cause havoc. Only modern sub I can do it with or have tried is the Kilo, still fun anyways using these boats just remeber to avoid shallow waters.

Yes, Co2 and compressed air has a limited supply and has to be replenished on the surface. This is something nuclear powered submarines don`t have to do since the reactor produces air.

This is something nuclear powered submarines don`t have to do since the reactor produces air.Let me go into more detail so there is no confusion about how a modern sub works. A nuclear reactor does not produce air. CO2, CO, H2, and O2 are all keep in balance by 3 different atmosphere control machines. A scrubber removes the CO2 from the air by using a chemical called monoethanolamine. A burner removes CO and H2 from the atmosphere and spits out CO2 and H2O. Oxygen is produced by an Electrolytic Oxygen Generator which breaks the bond between H2 and O in H2O to produce H2 and O2. The O2 either goes directly to the atmosphere or is stored in a series of flasks for later use.
Compressed air is one thing that that we still need to bring air from the outside inside in order to have any air to compress. Prior to submerging the boat you would be running your air compressors to get as much air as possible into the air banks. Once we submerge if we need to put more air into the banks we could run the compressors until the pressure in the boat dropped to a certain point. To get the pressure back up you use the snorkel while at PD to draw more air into the boat. Since it is possible to put a positive pressure in the boat, you would do just that to limit your time near the surface.
As far as the game is concerned, whenever I play one of the modern boats the first thing I do is shut off limited O2, everything else can be left on.

i also know that Jhapprich has succeeded in making VLS Tubes on his russian boats for his Cold Warriors: Steel Sharks mod.
so is it possible to implement it in this mod?

You`re gonna have to ask Jhaprich to implement the VLS tubes as they are torpedo doors with animations. I don`t know how to do animations.

If you look closely in the beginning of the film Red October had a small number on her conning tower.:salute:

That won´t increase the speed. For that, open the Propulsion and E_propulsion and edit the speed figures there.

I have an idea for the caterpillar drive.Perhaps it could be modded so when one orders "silent running" the drive kicks in.Perhaps the prop animation could be manipulated to stop but it's actually turning so you have propulsion as I imagine the propulsion itself is hard coded but the animation may be able to be manipulated as others are in SH 4.Not sure how silent one could make it but perhaps someone can.Perhaps use torpedo tube doors in the bow to open and act as the intakes as I remember in the movie when Ryan and Tyler were looking over the photos, Ryan asked if they were torpedo tubes.I am sure some of this has been thought of and its far beyond my modding abilities(what little I have) but just an idea.

Two years, nearly two thousand downloads. This mod is the second most popular file on my Game Front account. If I only knew it would turn out like this when I first made this mod. Could`t have done it without you guys. :wah:

Hello All, i have read this forum topic for past couple days. I have some questions on the Red October. (FYI: I am new here, so forgive me if these have been answered before).
1. I have tweaked some of the values in the Ballast, so it submerges reasonably, but when it surfaces it doesn't really surface. It only goes half way and stops, is there a value or ratio i have to follow on the ballast? or is there something else i need to tweak?
2. @Gibbs1, i have read your topic on how you got the caterpillar drive to work. I was wondering if you have a tutorial on how you go the Hydrogen peroxide propulsion drive to incorporate with the Red October. I do have SH4 and the DLC (or Expansion Pack?) Wolves of the Pacific Uboat missions, is there an object i am suppose to get from a file to insert it in the Red October SIM file?
Before i forget, @Karle94, good job on the Sub. Really love it, but is there ballistic missile option i am forgetting to look for? That would be cool, if not then i don't mind.

One thing your missing when Red October went silent she turned off her Screws and then engaged a caterpillar drive, made her dissapper.
