This is a mod designed to enhance the variety of survivors and lifesaving craft that spawn when a vessel sinks. It includes wooden lifeboats as well as the existing rafts, plus many static crewmen with a wide variety of clothing, features, hair color, and ranks. Survivors will also cling to wreckage or life rings when ships sink. Bigger ships will tend to spawn more survivors.
Special thanks to the original creators of the lifeboats mod (especially Rubini), Racerboy, and DKruger.
EDIT: PLEASE BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.1, WHICH CORRECTS A BUOYANCY ERROR WITH THE LIFEBOAT.

Thanks for the comments, although DKruger deserves a lot of credit - he replaced my crewmember skins with some truly wonderful revised versions about 2 years ago. I then mixed and matched the men's clothing in Photoshop to increase variety.

Try downloading version 1.1 (I forgot to raise the minimum height of the lifeboat). I am not sure what's wrong with the individual men; they look fine on my install. Have you adjusted wave height with SH3 commander?

I was experimenting with the 'Happy Times' single mission and finally saw a wooden boat. I do have one request though: is it possible to merge it with the other lifeboats mod? I miss the rowers and different groups in the rafts.

I haven't tried this yet but this mod retains the rafts you see in the lifeboats and debris mod... Also, "iambecomelife" did not say this is an add-on for the "Lifeboats and debris" mod. The conclusions are yours.;)

the original lifeboat mod v4 includes entries in the ships' .val files for the lifeboats. The present mod does not contain any .val files :hmmm:
It would be great if someone could clarify whether the present mod is a stand-alone mod or can (or should) be used in combination with the old mod :06:

I noticed the same thing. Since nobody answered this question I just tried it both ways and it works both ways.

I think a statement of Iambecomelife would be great because running a few tests, IMO, does necessarily mean that the combination of the old and new mod works :hmmm: It might still cause CTDs in some situations.

SH4 already comes with lifeboats. That's where Rubini got the idea for the original mod.

I appear to have missed this when it first came out, thanks for the mod iambecomelife :up:. Was it ever established whether this was a standalone mod or addition to the other lifeboat mod? From iambecomelife first post I assume it is standalone and will try it that way for now.

It's not a texture problem. When using .dat files for objects you cannot have any water reflection controllers being used in the object. Haven't found a way around it yet. If you leave the water reflection controllers you'll see strange artifacts/reflections on horizon and all over the water.

Do you use Thomsen's Parameter app? If the game engine treats lifeboats are ships, the app might have changed the displacement of the boats as well.

According to its included help (.chm) file, these are the parameters which can be changed by Thomsen Parameter App:
Engine Power (eng_power), range is 0-100% of original value in the file.
Rudder drag (drag), range is 0.0-0.5. IMPORTANT: THOMSEN PARAMETERS APP determines if the ship is a merchant or a warship by its speed (below 19.5 kts is merchant, above 19.5 kts is warship or liner) and adds automatically an extra 0.01 to the user value when it encounters a ships with a maximum speed above 19.5 kts.
Centre of gravity (gc_height) is 0.0-10.0.
Surface drag (LR), range is 0-0.5.
Displacement is not one of those parameters and, AFAIK, there is no way of using Thomsen Parameter App to change the displacement parameter value in <ship class>.sim.
Also from the .chm:
1. No ship of fewer than 500 tons will have its parameters altered, as originally intended by Thomsen.
Now, I know from testing that the 500-ton limitation refers only to the parameter mass, not displacement. But, IIRC, a non-zero value for mass overrides any value for displacement in either the .sim or .cfg file. So, if the mass parameter value does not exceed 500 tons (and it probably wouldn't for a lifeboat), Thomsen Parameter App will not alter any of the four parameters listed above.
Both the parameters affected and the mass limit could be changed by altering the source code and recompiling. But that would not be done unintentionally.

I do use Thomsen's Ships v4.4, but the Wooden Lifeboats mod is installed after it. The only mod affecting Lifeboats is a sound mod I installed after.

IIRC, Rubini's Lifeboats & Debris v4 had an optional Buoyancy and Draft Mod for ships. WB's xtras for GWX 3 Wilhelmshafen, St. Naz, Schluese and xtra ships also included Rubini's L/B mod and optional buoyancy & draft mod. Maybe there's a connection/conflict in one of those? No real evidence or investigation...just a random thought.

Reviving this for asking a couple of things:
1)Like others I still haven't understood clearly if with this patch is going to spawn wooden as well as the old lifeboats as well. And if a combination of both mods would do the trick or not....
2) As I understand there is no movement involved. So, my question is in the same context as the previous one. If we get both types, will it be motion and motionless boats mixed?
And finally something else I was thinking...
Have anyone noticed any corelation to the LBs and debris appearing with the tonnage and crew survived statistics that are given after a succesfull sinking?
It would be fun and important as well because there is another mod out there (SH3Log) which makes you give the estimate of tonnage to the BdU and accordingly you are getting the renown or not.
I have some questions regarding this mod's usability generally and specifically with others (like SH3C and the MFM) but to be more on topic I would like to ask:
Can we use the lifeboats and debris as a hint of how much we have sunk or the things appearing are just random?
I know...probably is only eyecandy (and it's cool definately!) but I was wondering.

The Wooden lifeboats replace the others.
None are animated.
You still get rafts, floating bodies, personnel in life preservers. Debris still pop up.
As with most eye-candy mods, try it out and see, pardon the expression, if it floats your boat.
I personally use this mod all the time.

I think I'll stick to the original mod then as it sounds a bit more exciting to me. Haven't tried any of them till now though as I am still trying to set the game.
The real thing I am afraid of is any compatibility issue with other mods.
I'd love to have a table or something similar that demonstrates known incompatibilities between the mods.
Searching in the forum is really difficult, sometimes impossible with so much tonnage of posts!
