Hi to all just an innocent question here with no criticism intended for any group or individual
Seems to me that interest or perhaps ability to mod SH5 is starting to wane - having logged on virtually every day since the second patch was released it seems the same few mods have been getting some tweaks, but over-all there have not been any startlingly new mods released for a while - and no real indication that anything big is on the way or in planning - Perhaps we've reached a bit of a glass roof with SH5 - the game that was supposed to be more mod friendly than any of the others has proved to be anything but -
I'd say its fair to assume the game will not have any more official patches, possibly due to the overall howls of derision it received prior to, and immediately following release - I'd love to be wrong on this, and I stress I am only supposing due to a lack of any indication of anything else, if there is anything the devopers or publisher could say to the contrary we'd all love to hear it, no need to keep it a secret it will probably ignite renewed interest in the game!
Certainly I doubt if we will ever get the latter part of the war as an add-on or anything else - a lot more work for the developers and clearly the pressures of game publishing do not really allow for the kind of depth and research or fidelity to history or technical accuracy that such a project would require for a game that never is likely to garner the mass appeal they'd need to justify an addon - we all need to face the reality that WW2 submarines are a limited audience - So if there is no official add on then if it is to happen it needs to be a mod and it seems there are too many obsticles in the way of such a community build - if this is the case the boredom and factor will set in very quickly and people will simply not be bothered.
Can we confirm that the ability to port ships from SH4 to SH5, which was mooted as a highlight of the second patch but which didn’t actually eventuate? So it’s not likely that we will see any new units any time soon if at all, which means adding more variety to the merchants, or to the game as a whole will remain impossible. I understand that modding new subs and ships requires some sophisticated software that no one has, or it's is too expensive for any one but a fully fledged game studio or production house - if this is the case is there any real hope for new units in the game?
It does seem that this game is set to wither on the vine - Once again I mean no insult or criticism to any one - I'm just trying to get some sense of where things are at - I'd love to hear from someone on the developer team who can say a third patch is on the way or that there will be an add-on - Likewise I'd love to be proved wrong re additional units or porting ships from other games - if someone has, or is about to do this let us know
Sure I was critical of the DRM - still am on principle, but it's not hindered my experience of the game in any way - I was more critical of what I thought were going to be shortcomings or flaws in the game, the structure of the campaign etc. Most of my latter concerns have proven to be true - the game graphics were great upon release and now they are downright stunning thanks to a couple of enviro mods. The Allies AI has been largely fixed again by some brilliant mods - The sub interiors have been tweaked, though some work is still to be done and I believe there are one or two folks working on this. But after that there does not seem to be much happening - I wonder if that’s simply because people are still feeling their way or have we reached a kind of ceiling with the game that prevents the development of any more serious modifications or additions to the game?
I hope to get some reasoned responses to these questions - not shouted at, or down and not criticized, or used as an excuse to whip Ubisoft or the developers - I've always loved this series and hold a hope that it will go on being developed and improved by the publishers and by the gamer community
