Hello all,
I've had a look in the subsim Mods area, but could not find a mod which does what I am looking for. If I am right and there isn't a mod for this, I'd like to have a go at making one and packaging it up for JGSME as my first mod attempt. If I am wrong and a mod already exists, I would appreciate a pointer to it :DL
Basically, as per http://www.subsim.com/tips/tip_sh3.php subsection "How to Disable Auto Identify", I have edited my ship roster to stop the UZO/periscopes popping up the ship class whenever the cross-hair is on a contact. I think this is an excellent immersion/realism change, and would like to make it into a module if it isn't already.
I would appreciate any help as to how to do that, or a pointer to the module if someone has done this already!
Many thanks in advance!

I do play 100% realistic so then you don`t need this mod.
Thanks anyway !!

You're welcome, anyway!
Your copy of SHIII must be different from mine, and from that of the person who wrote the article I referred to in my post, because for *us* even on 100% realism with every option turned on, as soon as we point our UZO or periscope at a contact the Notepad immediately gives a partial ID.
Here are a couple of screenshots to illustrate my point, in case it was too confusing before:
http://triton.imageshack.us/Himg15/scaled.php?server=15&filename=optionsey.jpg&res=gal (http://img15.imageshack.us/i/optionsey.jpg/) http://triton.imageshack.us/Himg9/scaled.php?server=9&filename=26010049.jpg&res=gal (http://img9.imageshack.us/i/26010049.jpg/)
And now with the names hidden:
http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/974/hiddend.th.jpg (http://img197.imageshack.us/i/hiddend.jpg/)
As you can see, even with all the options checked, the UZO still gives away the target. This can be abused after a fashion by "scanning the horizon" and noting every spec which causes the notepad to update.
This mod would make the game even more realistic, which some people like myself would find very enjoyable indeed.
this is a good mod for stock GUI users, since most of the GUIs already contain this

Ah, that would explain it -- as you can see, I am using the stock "Notepad"!
So, any tips on how to write a mod? :D Where can I RTFM?

hi Nemchenk,
it is very easy to do it yourself ,
go to data/roster and find there the ''english.cfg'' . (back up the original .cfg)
open it (with notepad) and look at the pic to see how to change it.

I know, I've done it.
And now I am thinking of working on this as my first JGSME-enabled mod, and I would appreciate any tips on documentation or whatnot for that.
Thanks!
