Okay i have Feared Hunters 2.0 running and i noticed some odd behavior. Its late November 1939 and i have just sunk my first carrier. 2 Destroyers broke off with the intent to sink me.

So heres a play by play...

I go hard to port....
The destroyers follow with vigor! And they pass over. (Note there is no pinging in the boat. And both only drop a single depth charge over me..
One hits incredibly close, damaging the torpedo room and causing all kinds of crap in boat..
System are decent, hull pressure is 88%
For some reason my CE is injured and i cannot order anything from him...
My lil "officer icon" for TDW UI mod shows all my officers injured (weird, they all hit their heads?)
Flooding is at 15%
The boats again pass directly over me, dropping no charges...
No Pings..
Boats pass again dropping 1 charge...
My flooding is at 20% no other hits near the boat
Basically i avoid the destroyers, who still drop single charges, but pass over me directly and dont land any hits near me. STILL no pings..
And since i cannot order anything to do with flooding *(CE is still injured cannot order anything)
I order to scuttle the boat, tell the crew to prepare for abandon ship, order the destroy of our enigma and any important documents, and surface the boat..
Gunfire from the Destroyers kill 10 crewmen. 32 survive including me :)

But seriously anybody else encounter this? That wasnt a very fun depth charging, there was no drama, anxiety... No pinging really takes away from experience..

you got 10 crewmembers killed ? I thought crewmembers could not die in sh-5

wounded crew in central sub compartment caused by damage in the engine room may come from detonation shock, which is affecting the whole boat.

Destroyers loose active sonar contact depending on their distance to the sub, sub dept (active sonar down angle is limited) and profile to the pinging DD.

...i think most anoying is, that 1939 no DD or DE was allready equiped with active sonar.

Actually the first shipboard ASDIC unit was installed twenty years before that.

The 6th Destroyer Flotilla had ASDIC-equipped vessels in 1923

ya but the reason i died was because my CE was injured and i could not order any commands with him. It was stupid. I wanted to reduce flood times..

There were aboslutely NO sonar pings, kinda sucked.

What i wanted to kno was how to change the getting injured stuff.. Its dumb. Nobody gets injured to the point of not issuing orders unless the boat goes through catastrophic damages.

Not using feared hunters, but u-boat killer. had a nice long encounter with a dd that lost contact but picked me back up in his search patterns. forced to surface due to flooding and my crew was in a comatose state as well, got into a short artilery duel with the destroyer, which surprisingly i won... barely. after fighting heavy seas for 3 hrs. and working with only one heavily damaged desiel engine (the other destroyed) i finally had to call it a night, saved, only to find my sub uber repaired when i loaded back in the next day... would have been nice to have seen just how long i would have been able to hold on to her in that state. I would have wanted to give every man on the boat a medal if we'd been able to pull out of that mess under normal-ish circumstances.

opted to reload to the save just after I had sunk the ships under the destroyers care. only to find his first barrage of charges one caught me somewhere between the radio room and the bow, a second right above the engine compartment, with deadly accuracy. 2 booms and down to 67% hull integrity with minor flooding. cheif was in good health and spirits and immediately got to work on the problem. still lost a desiel engine and one of the electric engines, the other badly wounded, but we got away. got back to port, and found the command of U-48 suddenly vaccant, and happily left U-30 to the yard birds to sort out.

That was by far the most exhilirating dc incident i've encountered yet.

The people that moan that the DD are hopeless and can't find you in the early years, if you read as I did, The Battle of the Atlantic By Andrew Williams there are sections of that book where they have Uboat and DD war diaries and how the DD's struggled to find uboats during attacks. One entry from an officer on a brittish DD said the best hope of sinking a uboat was if one of the other boats in the wolf pack torps hit one of there own. He stated that the ASDIC they had was pretty hopeless, his and the words of merchant seamen on these convoys said it was just about impossible most of the time at night to see a Uboat on the suface that was making its way through a convoy.

On the other side ,in the same book in Kretschmer's war diary, states that on moon lit or clear nights the british use of Star shells was pretty useless.

But even without these mods, if you are within the "sight" circle of an armed merchant or DD then every other shell either hits or hits the water that close is damages the hull, yet when you read what really happened, the watch on these merchant ships would only spot a Uboat at night on the surface by luck. And in the early years it was much the same with the DD and there Asdic.

So I don't see why the hue and cry to get these mods to have DD dropping DC's from the off and hunting you down not stop. As stated in that book from both sides, it wasn't until much later that this happened.

Well, Kretschmer didn't make it through 'years' of the war, he only managed a year and a half as did the two other aces who were sunk attacking the very same convoy. Kretschmer was also sunk by ASDIC attack, so perhaps it wasn't as hopeless as he first thought?
